Pros:

Easy to take
Lots of energy
Cheap(10$ without insurance for 60 day supply with 1-a-day)
Works at acne beneath skin

Cons:

Very hard to stay in sun, both your eyes and your skin feels weird

You start out with two everyday for 2 months, you are clear after 2 weeks of everything beneath skin, and after the two months you take one everyday. Pair with a good non comedeogenic moisturizer and a benzoyle peroxide cleanser, you should be acne free in 2-3 weeks. No cystic acne at all ever. Skin isn't red. It does become more sensitive though, especially for shaving. Take a Zinc pill in the morning, and Bactrim at night. The zinc will really help, most people don't believe it, but it is proven in many clinical, government, and university studies that zinc is the best thing for skin(both topical and pill). My family has insurance, but these pills were the same price with insurance and off insurance. My energy has increased a little, I can tell if I forgot to take the pill.

Pros:

Cheap, Started working immediately.

Cons:

Large pill, lowers immune system (all antibiotics do)

I am 25 years old and have had acne for 10 years. I have tried Accutane 2 times, all the topical gels, and other antibiotics. Bactrim is the first thing that has worked for me besides Accutane. Bactrim stopped new acne from day 1 and I have been on it 1 month today and have no new acne! I am very surprised, and pleased, as I was a skeptic.

Pros:

Inexpensive, cleared skin within a few days

Cons:

Face peeled, but not extremely noticeable

I love this stuff! My face has never been so clear, and I'm only on day 11! Nothing has every worked my skin. I've suffered from acne since I was in the 4th grade, I can officially go without makeup and feel great!

Pros:

clears acne
inexpensive

Cons:

none

In the last year and half of derm visits, this has been the only thing that worked after all other topicals and antibiotics failed. I've tried Bactrim twice before short term (2 months each time), and both time it completely cleared my acne 100%. I stopped getting new pimples after the second day. And no side effects for me. Now I've finally gotten the long term prescription and I couldn't be happier.

Pros:

DEFINITIVELY WORKS. I have been on it for a couple of weeks and within a week i could see noticeable differences. I have had maybe 4 to 6 new bumps on my face and within a day or two its almost like they are gone!!

Cons:

I have to take it twice a day and i forget to take it in the morning sometimes... haha. Haven't had a problem yet.

I have had acne since I was about 13. I had a normal amount of confidence in myself until I got acne and no one else did. I dealt with my acne for years using different antibiotics, ranging from tetracycline, minocycline, and most recently solodyn. Also i have been on plenty of topical like benzyl peroxide and others. I really let my acne take control of me by not wanting to go hang out with friends or do certain things because i hated when people would look at my acne and not at me! Now im 18 and im on this sulfamethoxazole, i am more confident than ever before and my acne is no longer an issue. Its a great product for those who dont have extremely bad acne, but yet still have noticeable bumps or pimples on their face. It helped me greatly!!!!

Pros:

best acne med ive ever taken.
very effective with no side effects.
works fast.
worth the time and effort.

Cons:

pill is bigger than usual.
i broke out once i got off it but not severly.

take this if you have bad acne and have tried a whole lotta meds. side note: the depression people get when taking acne meds in my opinion is because you have acne and cant get rid of it or are scared to get it again or something to that effect. ive taken a buttload of pills and never became extra depressed. my depression always stemmed from the fact that i had acne.

Bactrim DS - took a long time to work, but well worth the wait.

Pros:

Very inexpensive, $5.90 in Australia for 1 month Supply
One Tablet per day (can be cut in half if too big)
Absolutely zero side effects (for me).

Cons:

Took a very long time to work.
Can be very dangerous if you're allergic to it.

In late 2011 (at 28 years of age), I started getting terrible Acne on my face. I tried every herbal remedy, herbs and vitamins that supposedly help Acne, topical creams and everything over the counter one could dream of. Nothing worked and my face was becoming worse by the day. In April 2012, I saw my dermatologist who said my acne was cystic and severe - he prescribed Bactrim DS on the spot. He told me results vary - some people get lucky and find it clears their skin in only a few short weeks, however some people need to wait much longer than that...I was the latter. My face and acne stayed in the same horrific state for quite some time - it was only in July 2012 that I started noticing a real difference. I was still getting acne, but it wasn't as inflamed (no pus or yellow heads) and it would go away much faster than usual. My skin continued to slowly improve and by Christmas 2012, my face was clear and it's remained that way :) - apart from the odd spot around 'that time of the month' - which I dare note complain about is it's NOTHING compared to a face full of swollen, painful, embarrassing Acne. In conjunction with the Bactrim DS, I used Benzac face wash and only moisturised every now and then. These days I'm still taking Bactrim DS and using Neutrogena's Power Clean Face wash - which is amazing as it's faded my Acne scars by about 70% over the last 7 months or so. I can't recommend Bactrim DS highly enough - however you MUST be willing to be patient. Don't just stop taking it after a few months if you find your skin isn't improving. I'd say give it a good 4 months and if you notice absolutely no improvement, then go and see your derm and discuss other options. Also, keep in mind that some people are VERY allergic to this medication so make sure you know the risks and what to expect just in case you react to it. I was pretty nervous the first time I took this as I had read about so many peoples scary reactions...but I took a leap of faith and I've never looked back :)
