Pros:

-No new pimples in over a month!!
-Prevents hormonal, cystic acne
-Help with cyclic acne

Cons:

-Took over 2 months for it to work
-Not a permanent solution

I have been on Bactrim since Feb. 2011 and it's finally working well. I haven't had a pimple the past month, however, it did take 2 months for my existing and new acne to stop surfacing and become clear. It was slow-working for me, but with patience, it kicked in. Be sure to drink lots of water with the medication and also be sure to wear a hat or some sort of cover when out in the sun. It makes you very sun-sensitive! -Also, be sure to take a probiotic when taking this medicine. It is a very strong medicine and my Dr. said it was a step right below Accutane. Monitor your body and fluid intake while on this. This isn't a permanent cure, but once it kicks in (and that can take a few months for some people, like me), you will find relief for your acne. Good luck everyone!

Pros:

Easy to Take
Cleared up acne within 1 week
Prevents Breakouts

Cons:

Have to take twice a day on an empty stomach
have to drink lots of water on it
Increased alcohol sensitivity

Ive been on accutane before, and my skin was clear for about 7 months after the treatment. But it started coming back lightly but it was really bothering me and i wanted to go back on accutane but my derm told me to try Bactim DS in combination with Aczone... and this stuff works! I think its a combo of both that works really good! So i would recommend trying both of these at the same time, its def worth a shot... the azcone can be pricey but ask your derm for a discount coupon thats what i did and it was a lot cheaper!

Hi! How long did it take to see results from both? (I know this was a long time ago but I'm about to start the same thing)

Pros:

Looks good so far. I have struggle with acne for 5 years and I am very self conscious about what I look like. So far my face looks pretty good.

Cons:

None yet

If you have tried everything else and don't want to go down the accutane path then I would recommend trimethoprim.

Cons:

None so far

If you think there's no cure for your acne, think twice. This actually works.. You'll love it as much as I do no double about it.

Pros:

stops skin swelling and stops new acne immediately. very cheap price. Good hair growth bcos of sulphur on bactrim, soft skin

Cons:

feeling very tired, blemishes take more than 2 months to disappear, skin high sensitive to sunlight.Should take liver and blood tests

I have been in bactrim for more than 40 days, it sops new acne on the first days itself. But blemishes took more than a month to disappear. It stops acne on the first day itself because its stops skin swelling .....If skin swelling stops, automatically no new acne.but blemishes wil not easy disappear if no skin swelling so u need a topical medicine to make the blemishes to fell. If u have good topical medicine and oral medicine Bactrim it combines and make an end to acne and blemishes. Body will not become immune to this medicine, many people telling bactrim medicine is become immune so again acne breakout. No not at all. Bactrim main activity in body is to stop skin swelling, and decrease the protein needed for acne bacteria growth. killing the bacteria is the 2nd thing. Bactrim 70 % purpose to stop skin swelling & to decrease the protein needed for acne so you lose weight only 30% to kill bacteria. Bactrim Benefits: 1. Stops skin swelling so No acne on first day itself. 2. Very cheap price 3. Good hair growth bcos it has sulphur 4. Weight loss 5. Gives beautiful skin with the combination of topical medicine. 6.You can take any food and chocolates, ice cream etc... Amazing medicine, take continuously for 2 to 3 months to see good results. If u feel very tired or any other effects take a half tablet on night its enough to stop new acne but apply topical medicine on old acne and blemishes. You should take liver and blood tests periodically.Dont take any other medicine while you in bactrim.

Pros:

My skin is so smooth...probably smoother than a baby's butt. I have been using this for about 2 weeks and then stopped, theinfection came back...now I have been on it for over a month (not counting the 1st time) and I wonder if the acne will come bak

Cons:

The fact that it's an antibiotic - yeast infection happened once.

The best stuff in the world (can't say anything about what will happen after I stop using it in a week)!!

By far, best antibiotic for acne but be careful
Ive had severe acne for around 2-3 years now and have taken all sorts of creams/ antibiotics. Some working better than others but none truly clearing up my skin. This was my last choice before having to go accutane because this was the last antibiotic i hadn't tried yet so i was hoping for the best. Within the first week, i already saw amazing improvement and was extremely excited. Around my 3rd week of taking it, i fell incredibly sick. Hives everywhere, back of my throat inflamed to golf ball, sore all over my mouth. It was literally the most pain ive had in all my life . Had to get sent to the ER where a full team of doctors did tests on me to make sure i wasn't having a severe allergic reaction that could kill me. Turns out i just had normal virus that was activating all the symptoms of the anti-biotic. So they made me stop for a week and my virus went away on its own. They couldn't conclude that i was allergic to bactrim so they said i can go back on it but they dont recommend it. I went back on it right away without consulting my derm cause the results i was getting were just too good to pass up and i was willing to take the risk. 4 months later, this pill is still working like magic. Face is soft and smooth as a baby and no symptoms at all. I also have a strict diet since eating dairy/junk food even on this pill still caused to break out a little bit. I would recommend this for anyone but be careful. Im still amazed with the results every day. This pill has saved my confidence

Pros:

Clears persistent acne very well;
Relatively inexpensive.

Cons:

Many people are allergic;
Don't serve as a permanent solution.

My derm put me on a combination of Bactrim and a topical retinoid as a last step before Accutane. I've been dealing with nodulocystic acne for about a year now, and I've tried MANY different topicals and antibiotics. None have worked all too well (Duac was the most helpful topical, and no improvement with any antibiotics). Anyway, I went on Bactrim and my very broken-out face immediately cleared within a matter of one week. Unfortunately, on day 12 I had an allergic reaction to it (and discovered that I have an allergy to Sulfa-drugs). I broke out in a minor rash on my arms, legs, back and chest, and my face turned bright red. This reaction occurred over two days, then subsided. While it did give me a rash, it's been the most effective treatment so far. I'm kinda glad that I get to go on Accutane now because antibiotics are never a permanent solution.
