Pros:

Cleared up most cysts and a lot of shoulder/back acne.

Cons:

Did not clear face up too much, just the very large acne. As soon as you stop, you break out again.

I have been off and on for several months. It's easy to forget one pill once in a while. It cleared the very large acne, but not the smaller acne which is on my face and chest. I stopped taking it for a bit and I broke out again, terribly but not with as many cysts. I got back on it again and it didn't do a dent into the smaller pimples, etc. I started taking green tea extract along with it, which I think helped somewhat. I am getting off it though to try something else. But really, it does work for some people just not for me. BUT less cysts which was nice.

Pros:

Cleared up skin great along with the Duac gel applied to acne spots nightly.

Cons:

After being on it over a year I recently developed severe stomach cramping along with vomiting a few hours after taking even when taking with a meal. Also caused headaches almost daily.

Cleared up skin beautifully but the sides effects (which is to be expected with long term use of anti-biotics) became more of a problem than it was worth. Drink LOTS of water while taking. Make sure to get blood work done. Because of the negative effects I'm switching to Solodyn. Would've been great without all the side effects!!

Pros:

I don't know of any pro's - yet.

Cons:

I am still breaking out with cysts all over.

I am not seeing the same effect's as others. I originally started taking Septra for what was diagnosed as MRSA by 3 Dr.'s later to find out it was just a regular Staph infection. I still keep breaking out with them in different locations. I have been taking the meds now for 2 months with no change. They are very painful and don't seem to be getting any less frequent!

Pros:

Works when using, but takes awhile to start working

Cons:

After using for 5 months, it was like my skin became immune to it, and it stopped helping.

This is a very old drug. It's main purpose is to clear up UT infections, and other infections in the body. After hearing about people dying from taking Bactrim, and the fact that i still had bad acne, i decided to stop taking the pill. However, if you trust medicine, and do not have harsh acne, i'd suggest it, but not long term.

Pros:

With insurance, this antibiotic is cheap.

Cons:

It's been over a month and it hasn't changed my breakouts in any way. It's also a huge pill -- slightly bigger than those women's one-a-day multivitamins. And it's uncoated, so it doesn't go down very smooth.

Different anti-b's work for different people, and I don't think this one is working for me. The doc has me on it for two months, so there's still some time left -- but you're going to be fairly disappointed if you're looking for quick results with this one. I had better results on doxycycline back in college -- but the side effects were nasty (nausea + yeast infections!). At least with this one, I can't say I've had any nausea or yeast infections! Just MAKE SURE to actually drink a full glass of water after taking it.

Pros:

Simple, just take a pill to fight acne.

Cons:

Possible dangerous side effects from using an antibiotic long-term.

Took Doryx for face acne for several months with moderate success, but then it stopped working. Dermatologist switched me to Bactrim. Saw results after around week 2 and face became much clearer. But after week 3, I developed flu symptoms -- fatigue, aches, nausea, chills, fever, loss of appetite. A few days later the fever and chills went away but my urine was unusually dark. Finally realized it might not be the flu, but a reaction to Bactrim. Stopped taking it and contacted my dermatologist and primary care physician. Blood work shows abnormal readings about my liver, but hopefully I'm on the mend. I've never been allergic to an antibiotic before, but also never taken one for so long. Bottom line: Bactrim works fine for some people, but pay close attention to the possible side effects and notify your doctor right away if you have them -- don't take chances that what you think is just a flu is really your liver telling you to stop!

Pros:

I don't know if it worked or not... my skin is almost compleatly clear but i don't know if my cream did most of the work...

Cons:

HUGE pill! I was scared to down that monster...
I'm allergic to it... I broke out into a rash on my stomach, chest and arms (non-inflammatory and it wasn't itchy)
I'm hypoglycemic and I felt that the pill made it way worse.

Worth a shot... with my luck of course I was allergic. No big deal though. Try it out enerything works different with everyone. If your hypoglymic and you take this though, it may make it worse( more "episodes" more often) like it did with me.

Pros:

This product really worked wonders for my face. I had absolutely no break outs while on the medication.

Cons:

allergic reaction to it.

Do not take this medication!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was taking this medication for three weeks. On the third week, my entire body broke out with an itchy rash of hives, even the bottom of my feet. I developed vagina itching along with rectum itching. This is no ordinary rash. This type of rash feels like someone is constantly stabbing you with knives and the rash retains heat. Could you imagine your entire body itching at the same time and it last of days? I couldn't even sleep because of the rash.

Pros:

Works slightly with high dosage, no bad side effects

Cons:

Does not work on chest, shoulder or back acne.

Have used this for nearly 6 weeks now with little improvement and have even increased my dosage to taking 6 double strength pills per day. Anybody who is taking this for body acne is definitely better off skipping this and going straight to Accutane.

Pros:

Eventually works with a high dosage.

Cons:

Takes a while to work. Doesn't cure acne, just controlls it.

It made acne significantly worse for the first month of taking it. Increased dosage to 6 double strength pills a day and the acne has finally begun to calm down on chest and face.
