Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Pros:

Not expensive

Cons:

Smells bad
Stings/Burning sensation

My skin was normal and not sensitive at all before I used this product. My breakouts were only one or two small pimples here and there occasionally..otherwise, I had perfect skin. I tried this product as my friend simply raved about it saying how she never has pimples because of it. I used it one time at night before I went to bed. The next day I woke up and my face felt itchy and painful. I rushed to the bathroom mirror and my face was completely red and covered in cystic-like acne and acne vulgaris. It was so terrible and happened so fast (overnight) that my own brother could not recognize me. At first, we thought it was an allergic reaction to the product so my parents brought me the doctor. He simply diagnosed it as a severe case of acne and unable to explain how it suddenly happened. Determined, my parents brought me to several dermatologists hoping to fix my "mess up". My parents ended up spending thousands of dollars with many dermatologists only to finally give up 3 years later. I first used this product when I was 17 years old. I am now 25 and still paying the price. It has only been recently that my face has gotten better. However in place of all the acne are now many enlarged pores, scars, and "craters". What's worse is that my face is now very sensitive to many products so I am not even able to wear any kind of make-up without breaking out. I would not wish the emotional trauma this has caused me to even my worst enemy. I would give anything to have my perfect skin back with the occasional small pimples here and there. On a final note, please please, if you really insist on trying any products, find a GOOD dermatologist and consult with him/her first. It would also be best to test a patch of skin first for any harmful reactions. Everyone's skin may react differently to any product and it is better to be safe than sorry especially when it concerns your face.

Pros:

None

Cons:

I am severely allergic to tea tree oil and it made me develop deep cystic type acne.

Be cautious if you are using products with tea tree oil in them and you notice your acne getting worse. It happened very slowly with me and therefore I did not realize at first that it was the cause. I am also allergic to eucyleptus...they are in the same family.

Pros:

None that I can see.

Cons:

Dries out and aggravates skin, especially sensitive skin

I have moderate acne and have been using 100% Australian Tea Tree oil for about two weeks. I dilute a Q-Tip with water, dip it in the TTO, and spot treat. So far, it's done nothing to help my acne. In fact, I've had two new pimples since using the TTO. All it appears to do is dry out my skin and aggravate my eczema. (I'm one of those people with the worst kind of combination skin. Very oily around the forehead, cheeks, and chin; very dry around the sides of my nose and around the eyebrow area.) I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with combination or sensitive skin.

Dries out the skin too much, left my skin completely red and flaky. My skin felt terrible and did not help with my acne. TERRIBLE.

did you use pure tea tree oil or one with added chemicals?

Pros:

Skin feels comfortable after using the acne wash

Cons:

It makes your skin break out even more, and it hurts.

I bought every single tea tree oil line by Body Shop. At first, i had a tinggling and painful burning sensation on my skin. I thought it was working but i realised i had more acne on my face. i usually break out before my period. But i ended having more pimples than ever.

Pros:

Readily available.

Cons:

Causes breakouts.

While tea tree oil may be helpful for some, one should use caution before implementing this remedy into a daily regiment.

Pros:

-ries skin so theres no oilyness

Cons:

-doesn't improve skin

It hasn't done anything yet to improve my skin but i think this would be good for people with mild acne not severe

Pros:

good for using as a mouthwash not acne

Cons:

-generated the worst breakout ever
-clogged pores
-causes acne inflammation

i tried this stuff reading all the good reviews online. i bought the 100% pure tea tree oil from amazon. so i diluted it 3/1 ratio of oil and water because this is a potent oil. it will literally burn your nose hairs off. anyway, i decided to spot treat on a couple of pimples that were premature and underdeveloped. in just a few hours, it literally transformed my zits into monsters..big, painful, red, inflamed, infected and embarrassing. it didn't even come to a head until i put NEOSPORIN on them. that was a lot of fun popping those beasts :( it's been a week and i'm now coping with the aftermath. to be honest, it could be looking a lot worse. i'm very grateful to come across neosporin (cream). it definitely helped expediting the healing process. what did i learn here? tto did not work for me because i'm sensitive to putting on oil pore clogging substance on my FACE.
