Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Pros:

Cleared up outbreak within 2 weeks. Helps keep zits away.

Cons:

STRONG smell.

I had a horrible outbreak that would not go away. It was itchy and just so sore! Nothing like I have had before. BP just made it worse. So I found tea tree oil myself! and started taking DOXY (from my doc) and it finally went away ,after 3 months of asking around and no one having a solution. Now I wash with a tea tree oil face wash, oil spot treatments, night repair lotion, and body wash. ITS WORKING GREAT! And its natural. So try it..what have u got to lose? Remember it will take a few weeks to see results and to rub in the pure t.t. oil well into skin.

Pros:

Great product, cheap price

Cons:

No cons

I make a face wash out of it, it works great. You take 2oz of Saint Ives apricot scrub for acne prone skin add 1/4 oz Tea Tree Oil, mix well, enjoy.

Pros:

It just works!

Cons:

You have to get used to its smell.

I've struggled with acne for 18 years, severe acne for the past year and a half. I've been on almost every over the counter treatment, used ProActive, spent a fortune on dermotologist visits, had my face injected to increase healing (don't ever do this!), and took numerous prescriptions including 6 months of Accutane. Nothing did the job. Now, I wash my face twice a day with Desert Essence Thouroughly Clean Face Wash with tea tree oil. Twice a day I also wet a cotton ball under water, squeeze out the excess, put a few drops of Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil on it, and go over my face. My skin not only has cleared up, but it is now smooth, soft, and looks and feels great. It may not be everyone's miracle cure, but it was mine. I wish I knew about this stuff 18 years ago!

Pros:

Heals current and future breakouts
Gentle and moisturizing for dry skin
Few side effects

Cons:

Odor

Very effective if used consistently for a long time. I used the Dermae Tea Tree & Antiseptic Creme (has 5% TTO and 3,000 IU of Vitamin E) mixed with Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil to create 15% TTO mixture.Same effect like Retina-A for me...skin got bad first and then greatly improved. It is as if my skin had to get rid of junk first and then the Tree Tea Oil and the creme worked to heal the skin inside out. You need to make sure you use TTO with high level of TERPINEN but low level of CINEOLE to be effective. My level is 38+ for Terpinen and <3% for Cineole

Pros:

1. Works fast.
2. Reduces redness.
3. Anti-bacterial.
4. Can be used with other natural acne remedies to fully clear acne.

Cons:

1. Can only be bought in small amounts.

I use Tea tree oil in a mixture together with extra virgin olive oil and sugar. I find that using the sugar to get rid of dead skin cells and then the olive oil to moisturise helps the Tea tree oil go even further. It also means no drying out of the skin. However, if I have a random or severe breakout I will use the Tea tree oil as is only on the area that has had a breakout. I suggest using Tea tree oil with another natural acne treatment you find best and applying it to your skin on a regular basis because in the long term it may just clear your acne altogether.

Pros:

Natural and as effective as BP without the side effects

Cons:

The smell is somewhat medicinal

I mix 10ml of tea tree oil with 190ml of a witch hazel / Salicylic acid cleanser (specially Super Drug's 'Deep Action Cleansing Lotion'). I do this because I read that a 5% concentration of Tea Tree oil is as effective as benzoyl peroxide, and the added effect of Salicylic acid and witch hazel would help. I have moderate back acne that refuses to go. I'm 28 and I've used everything under the sun short of Roaccutane. Every night, I sprinkle some of the solution in my hand and apply it to my problem areas. I do this religiously and my skin has never been so clear. I can now count the amount of spots I have on my entire back (two, just two!). I'm really surprised at how well this has worked. You have to apply at least a 5% concentration solution at least once a day for a month at least to see result. You have to consistent.

Pros:

Works Fast!
Great for stretch marks!

Cons:

The smell!
Kinda expensive.

I started putting tea tree oil on my stretch marks along with aloe vera gel and cocoa butter. I put the tea tree oil on overnight on my stretch marks, within 3 days, I noticed a difference. My stretch marks were significantly lighter. The aloe vera and cocoa butter may have worked, but I really think it is the tea tree oil that did it! I would recommend it for scaring. It has made most of my stretch marks A LOT lighter and on their way to almost being unnoticeable.
