Give it a try
So I'm 20 I have had acne since I was 10 years old. I've been on all the forms of antibiotics available from the NHS for acne, all topical treatments and i've been on Roaccutane/Isotretinoin twice and did a half course so was on that for a year and a half split up into different time periods. I've used all the types of contraception injection, patch & three different types of the pill. This is the only thing that has ever worked for me, ever. I honestly really advise trying this; you might be apprehensive reading reviews because every person is different and has different re actions to pills but if you have cystic or bad acne and are looking for a solution this is it. You have to stick to it though; skin gets a little bit worse before it gets better but then it really clears up :)

Pros:

Lost weight, regulated my period--never late!

Cons:

Acne, cysts, hyperpigmentation, white heads--can't get rid of them!

I started yasmin because my gyn recommended it for women with pcos. I was abroad for a few years and took pills like Marvelon 21 and Tridiol--loved both of them but they are not offered here in the U.S. The first month on Yasmin, I noticed a few pimples on my face but nothing too serious. After a couple of months I started to develop serious cystic acne that would not go away--not even with chemical peels, organic products, good diet etc.My skin has not been clear in 7 months since I started the pill. I have a weird combination of acne and dehydrated/lackluster skin, no matter what moisturizers or eye creams I use! Also, I noticed a lack in energy and enthusiasm in things I normally looked forward too. I felt my emotions were becoming really unstable---Honestly, this pill made me feel like I was bi-polar..up and happy one moment and down and depressed (even angry) at the next turn. (I'm talking about crying at memories, simple arguments with loved ones, feeling overwhelmed at daily work routines etc.) I'm getting off of it this month and giving another pill a try. I would have gotten off of it earlier but I was advised to give it at least 6 months. My doctor said she was really surprised to hear I didn't do well on it because she claimed most of her patients do well on this pill. It's good to see by reading this board that I'm not alone!

Pros:

fewer breakouts

Cons:

decreased libido
weight gain (5lbs at most)

I was on Yasmin from the age of 15-19 and i used it very consistently. I had very minor side effects and i had no breakouts from it. I cant say it cleared the acne i had because before i went on it i would get a zit here or there but nothing too extreme. About 18 months ago i switched to the generic version which was ocella. My skin began to breakout out like crazy. I stayed on Ocella for about 3 months and decided to quit BC all together. Thats when my very light amount of acne turned between moderate and moderatley severe. My acne was worse then before i even started the pill. I assumed my hormones were outta wack so i waited for my body to ajust. Its been a year later and while my skin has calmed a little its still not back to the way it used to be. The reason i dont recommend yasmin is bcuz while i dont believe its a horrible pill like others( i had an ok time on it) its the fact of how messed up i was when i discontinued it. Hope my review helped :)

Pros:

birth control, regulated periods

Cons:

acne breakouts, pill everyday, slight nausea after starting the first pill following the week of placebo pills

The first few weeks it made my acne break out really bad--the worst it has ever been. It mainly occurred along my jawline and chin, like most people who left a review. On my third month now, and my skin is better than the first few weeks, but still NOT clear. The acne takes forever to heal and lasts very long, leaving my skin sore and dry. Im hoping within the next few months my body will adjust and my face will clear! For any users what month did you see drastic improvement in your skin?

Pros:

Good birth control
Regulates periods eventually
No cramps (eventually)
Bigger breasts (might be a con for some)

Cons:

Awful breakout (hopefully intial)
Bigger, sore, breasts (already had a large cup size pre yasmin)
One month period (stopped after beginning second pack)
Hungry all the time (slight weight gain, 1-2 kilos)- please note, these cravings aren't bad, and easily controlled, i'm just on holidays atm
Possible hair thinning (not a massive issue as i have a lot of hair, but i like my thick hair, so hopefully this isn't an actual side effect and it's just winter shedding/the way i've been

For acne: I had crystal clear skin all through my teen years, one or two pimples a year, until i turned 18 i started having mild breakouts.Started with small pimples in my hairline, spread to entire forehead (though my entire forehead cleared up eventually on it's own) I have no cysts/whiteheads, just very red pimples, they aren't sore, or hard, kind of flat, ranging from tiny pin pricks, to around the size of the top end of a pencil. they can't be popped and will last 1-2 weeks. i get atleast three a week. I have these, on my cheeks, hairline, and around my mouth (starting from corner of lips) i also have pretty bad blackheads around my nose that sometimes get inflamed and sore. So far, the pill has made all this worse, lots more dots, but i'm finally getting heads (unattractive, but they heal faster) i also have pimple like things in eyebrows, which i've never had before. I say pimple-like, b/c they're small, hard and sore, but they're also very itchy. i'm hoping this is an intial breakout. Im on my second month. I WILL write back if/as soon as my skin improves, detailing how long it takes etc. I do believe it has to get worse before getting better though For a pill, it does the job in preventing pregnancy. Being hungry all the time isn't too bad, just need self control, i'm on holidays and have been giving into the cravings, but they're not gut wrenchingly bad. Period pain and month long period first month, but subsides. sore sore breasts, that are HUGE, i have big breasts naturally, so im hoping weightloss will descrese their size. My hair has been falling out alot- but i cannot remember if it was doing this before i got on the pill. For the past three months, i've been wearing it in a high bun, and not using conditioner (very lazy, the bun will stay untouched until i wash my hair, it's also winter) i'll stop this and note if there's changes. it is expensive $25 a month, but worth trying. DO NOT GIVE UP, stick with it ! will re-

Pros:

beautiful clear skin
Balanced hormones (balanced emotions)
Did i mention clear skin?!!

Cons:

Having to remember to take a pill everyday
and if i miss it ill breakout and be emotional.
Its not cheap without insurance.

My skin is perfect aside from a little hyper pigmentation and scarring. I don't even have to wash it. I get maybe 1-3 pimples around my period but that's it. My acne is obviously completely a hormonal issue. This works for me, but may not work for you.

Pros:

-eventually cleared up acne (for the most part)
-regulated periods
-regulated hormones
-alleviated some depression (also began zoloft at the same time, so I am not sure).

Cons:

-took a few months to work
-first month=terrible initial breakout
-nausea at beginning of every active pill pack
- I still get some zits (but that's not uncommon for someone my age)

I began the generic form of Yasmin (Ocella) in February, and experienced a very unsightly initial breakout. My acne had been flaring up since Christmas, which before that it had been good for a few months. Being a small girl I believe this had to do with the fact that I fall in and out of puberty, and around Christmas I got my period again for the first time in about six months. (I'm guessing my skin cleared up because my hormones were at prepubescent levels). Regardless, Ocella began working after the month-long initial breakout ceased. I have been fairly clear since April I would say, with some light markings (I have very easily marked skin) until about July. I currently have two pimples on my chin, and a few tiny bumps on my face (totally not noticeable to anyone but me :p). I can't expect perfection, as I am sixteen and a few pimples are expected, but I am much much happier. It is difficult to say whether this will work for you, as everyone is different. Give it a try, though, and allow it at the very least, three months to work. (You should really be patient and wait six). I shall re-review this in a year to update on any progress.

Pros:

No weight gain, no bloating, effective birth control, clearer skin.

I was on diane 35 first when my doctor switched me to yasmin saying it would do about the same thing for my skin. In Canada yasmin is fairly cheap around $10-12 before your pharmacy fee, so the price is definatly right. After switching i noticed no major side effects and my acne didn't get worse as i was scared it would have. It's been about a year now that i have been taking yasmin, and with the recent scare over yasmins side effects it's important you don't smoke, you eat well and stay fit while on this pill. i would say my skin isn't 100% clear, i still get a little whitehead here and there but nothing really noticable(i used to have grade 4 acne), so i'm definatly happy with yasmin.
