Pros:

worked well when I was taking it daily
no negative side effects

Cons:

acne comes back, sometimes in different places
not supposed to take this for very long

This worked the first 4 months I was on it. then the dr decided to slowly decrease my amount in hopes of stopping it completely, as this is not a medication you are supposed to take for long periods of time. my acne is slowly getting worse as my dosage has decreased over the past 3 months, i now take it every 3rd day. Topicals have not been effective in preventing acne from returning. so for short term, it works great, but long term doesn't help.

Pros:

Moderately clears with inital usage.

Cons:

Causes additional breakouts. Causes darkening of the skin and finger nails. Does not clear cystic ance at all.

I am a 42 year old African American woman, who has been on Solodyn for 12 months in conjuction with a topical cream (Differin). During the first 3 months I had moderate clearing however, I started having breakouts in spots that were previously clear. In addition to the new breakouts I developed a rash around my neck during the first three months. Once I got off the drug my breakouts got worse than they had ever been before. This drug may work for some but it truly is not for everyone. I wouldn't recommend that anyone stay on it beyond six months if they are not satified with the results. I was hopeful that it would eventually clear my acne but after a year of use I had to give up on it.

Pros:

Cleared up my skin

Cons:

Now I have back acne
Loss of sexual interest
Expensive w/o coupon

Works in some areas but causes breakouts in others. Is $900 w/o the coupon given to by the dr. I've lost sexual desire since being on this pill as well. That alone might be worth stopping it!

Pros:

is fairly inexpensive only if your doctor has coupons or a discount card.

Cons:

doesn't seem to work. causes break outs in areas that were previously clear.

i went to a dermatologist for some minor back breakouts that i wanted to clear up before my wedding. i have been on this medication for 6 weeks. my face is completely broken out. i have little bumps all over my forehead. my back is somewhat better but now the breakouts seem to have moved onto my chest. i have never had problems with my face before and my chest was always clearer than my back. even if the breakouts are due to wedding stress, shouldn't an oral medicine that is supposed to combat breakouts from the inside out still work? the doctor's solution to the new breakouts was to use a prescription body wash and face wash. now i find out that i need to be weaned off the meds or the breakouts could return, and return worse. fabulous. maybe i should have just started with the wash.

Pros:

Gets rid of cystic acne

Cons:

Still some break-outs

This product has worked well with me. Other than oiliness, my main issue are cysts. If you have the same problem, then Solodyn will most likely benefit you. Just don't set your expectations too high; you will still have little blemishes here and there, so you have to proceed with other meds (topical creams, face washes). However, I had to stop taking it because I recently went on birthcontrol (Ortho-Tri Cylen) Solodyn will counteract with birthcontrol, thus you increase your chances of becoming pregnant. All in all, great product!

Pros:

It Works Right Away
One Pill Can Take it with or without food :)

Cons:

None just that you can't lay down for 30 min.

Okay so i am 17, i had clear skin only had like 2-3 pimples at the most on my face at one time. In the summer i broke out REALLY BAD. i was covered in deep painful pimples on my cheeks, chin and forehead, :(. i went to my family doctor and prescibed me a bunch of stuff, which none worked, so he sent me to a derm. the derm prescirbed me Solodyn 65 mg, and i have to say i was a bit skeptical. but now 2 months later my face is clear and looks healthy, i still have the occasional pimple but not as bad they were before. now im just a lil nervous of coming off this stuff! :/

Pros:

Cleared up acne

Cons:

Joint pain, headaches, muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, swelling

When I was prescribed the medication I found it worked well it cleared up my acne but I began to have muscle and joint pain, weakness, fatigue, swelling after going to the doctor I found that I had drug induced lupus from the medication. Although rare it was quite unpleasant and I will never take that medication again. But my experience is a very rare outcome.

Pros:

nothing

Cons:

more acne than already there

please don't judge, but i think i did something dumb while i took this medicine. I took this for a whole week, after dinner. now, could the reason this did NOT work was because i drank wine with 95% ginger ale, affect the way this medicine was supposed to treat my skin? everything i drink bothers my stomach; icea tea, soda, water, juice makes me nauseous for dinner. so i finally found something that worked and i couldn't choose, so i did both lol now, my 2 weeks later, and my skin is like a 12 yr old. it's HORRRIBLE!!! i'm also taking a cream, which would burn my face bc i guess it was exfoliating, and in the morning i was it off with another exfoliating thing. and NOTHING IS WORKING! this is the 2nd dermo i've been to in 5 years. one was too old, just taking my money, and this guy is not using tough medicine. help?

Pros:

Some skin affects on the face

Cons:

headaches
fatigue
back skin and chest area had hive like pimples

I had told my doctor my hesitation to try another tetracyline product especially since the first one did not work, but the 10 mins she spent in the room she prescribed this in congruent with a topical. I am not sure if it is the topical or the medication itself that works, but both my back and chest area have broken out horribly and they do not get the topical, yet i do recall her saying to wear spf on exposed skin in order to prevent it. It has not helped and i have only been taking it for 2 weeks now. The price everyone else has paid is because of insurance. if you do not pay for insurance the price is very hefty. i paid an exorbitant amount for only 30 days of 65 mg it was 850 plus tax which i dont remember how much tax was

Pros:

cleared facial acne

Cons:

severe back acne, severe vaginal/anal irritation, swelling and irritation of the eyes

This review pertains only to those allergic to antibiotics. I haven't been prescribed with an antibiotic that I haven't had a bad reaction to yet, and now I can add minocycline to that list. About a week or two into the medication my face cleared beautifully, but my happiness was short-lived as my back broke out HORRIBLY soon after. I noticed some swelling and dryness around my eyes, and chalked it up to some sort of environmental rash. About a month into the medication, my vaginal/anal area broke out with severe itching, redness, swellling, dryness, and the irritated skin has even started to crack and bleed. I've been off Solodyn for almost two weeks now and my adverse side-effects still haven't gone away. Don't even mess with this if you've had bad reactions to antibiotics in the past; the pain isn't worth it!
