Pros:

It really helped my acne
Only one pill per day

Cons:

Sensitivity to sun

I am 26 years old and broke out in horrible acne (the worst I've ever had) after stopping birth control pills. Nothing was helping, and after 7 months I went to the dermatologist. She prescribed me Solodyn. I was nervous to take it at first after reading so many bad reviews about horrible side effects. I've been on it for 2 months now, and so far it has been great. My face is almost completely clear! I take it every morning with breakfast on a full stomach, and I have not experienced any side effects as of now.

Pros:

Clears up Acne Great
Works Well
Reasonably Priced

Cons:

Takes a Bit to Work
I Had to Learn How to Take a Pill
Had to Use 88mg Pills

Yes, use it! It worked for me! Although, i did have to learn how to take a pill ( i am extremely healthy, never needed pills before)i have pretty bad acne and this cleared it up, although it took 2-3 weeks. I am still pretty young, so my mom pays for it, i have no clue of the cost!

Pros:

-Completely cleared up cystic acne, whiteheads, and most blackheads. Skin is crystal clear
-Minimal side effects
-Once a day pill

Cons:

-Took 2-3 months to fully work & dosage change
-Extremely expensive if you don't have insurance ($700-$2000)
-brittle nails

Started on 55mg (105lbs) for first month and saw minimal results but continued on. Second month was alternating between 55 &65mg every other day and still didn't see significant improvement. For the third month was on 65mg a day and completely cleared up within 3 weeks and have been crystal clear since. When solodyn works, it really works! First medication since 2 rounds of Accutane to control my cystic acne. Problem for me is that I don't have insurance and my derm has been giving me the boxed pharmaceutical rep samples. Scared of what will happen if I stop. Unfortunately I've tried several antibiotics in the past and they are not a long term solution, although they can provide relief for a while.

Pros:

Cleared up acne for a while

Cons:

Horrible reactions to medication. After I got off of it my acne got ten times worse.

This medication sounded too good to be true and for me it was. Apparently I'm one of the rare few that reacts very badly to this medication. I was tired all the time, it screwed up my liver temporarily, I got vertigo, it made me have asthma attacks, and it gave me pneumonia. These sound like crazy side effects but apparently they all fit the medication. Just be careful if you decide to take it. Get your liver checked and if you're tired and super, falling over in your chair, dizzy go to the doctor. This doesn't happen to most people I was just unlucky. If it works for you and you have no side effects great, just be careful because it screwed up my life for a while.

Pros:

-1 Time a day
-No side effects

Cons:

-Price
-Clearing Up Time

Bottome Line: This is a very good acne medication, with very minimal to do on our end. Simply take it once a day, now the only catch is being patient. It was extremely hard for me to not see any improvements on my overall acne for the first month! It was exactly the 30th day of taking it when I woke up and saw an improvement. I have been on it now on a little under 2 months and can say my acne is pretty much all gone! I have tried other medications and to me, this is one of the best, with very minimal to no side effects. To me, the price is worth very little maintenance, no side effects and good results! Just hang in there and don't knock it until you have tried it for at least a good month!

Pros:

Tightens pores, especially around and on nose.
Smaller acne blemished are reduced.
Skins overall tone is returning.
Oilyness is reduced.
Skin looks healthier.

Cons:

It does have a minor initial breakout where the smaller blemishes surface but they went away.
But now rather big non-discolored bump/cysts are starting to occur, they sort of just seem like swollen bumps.
Lightheaded/dizzy/tired at times

--From an early user's point of view.-- I was prescribed 2 months of solodyn, as well as using the topical creams epiduo and noritate. I've been using it one week exactly now. It's hard to tell if the good is out-weighing the bad yet, or even if the bad is caused by the solodyn and not one of the creams. I'm confused about it myself. My skin, as far as coloring and pore tightness goes, looks much better. Perfect in some places. But, I've gotten 3 big bumps, that almost seem as if they are bug bites rather than pimples, but they are not. Its hard to say, but they are large, about the size of a dime and swollen. They showed up after using solodyn, but they are the same color as my skin. My dermatologist says to just give it a little time and to see if it goes away. My skin everywhere else looks great, my cheeks look much nicer, as well as my nose. But those were my problem area before, and now it seems as if the solodyn reversed the issue, now my chin and forehead are breaking out, which is the exact opposite problem since they were blemish free. I'm hoping that it is temporary, and that onces these swollen bumps go away, that the solodyn will improve those areas as well. I'm about 50/50 right now. It made some areas look much better, but like I said, gave me 3 cyst/non-discolored bump type things. One tip I have is to avoid dairy when using this, it seemed to me that as soon as I had a glass of milk it, for some reason, did not keen to well with the solodyn, and that is when the bumps formed. You also have to stay out of the sun when using it as much as possible. Overall, I am happy with the way the majority of my skin is reacting to it, and hopefully the derm is right and the bumps are temporary, but we'll see. Perhaps I will make a second review after I have been on it longer. That's about all I can say thus far. I can't really say if I recommend it yet, like I said, I cannot tell if it is helping or not at this point.

Pros:

None really.

Cons:

-gave me terrible allergic reaction
-did absolutely nothing to help acne

Did nothing for my acne after using it for 11 days. After using it for 11 days, I woke up one morning mysteriously very itchy. I had huge hives and welps all over my body. Allergic reaction much? Yeah. So basically uh its not worth your money. DON'T USE IT. My skin is very sensitive. But yeah I went back to the dermatologist and got Doryx and Aczone and something else...haha good luck with this.

Pros:

cleared up acne
great skin

Cons:

bad side effects
yeast infections
once i went off it, acne got 10x worse!

if you dont have bad side effects, this medicine is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. but if you do have side effects, then this medicine is horrible. i had the worst yeast infections and after i stopped, my acne got even worse than before. Now, i am dealing with the worst acne of my life all because i stopped this medication. For me, the cons definitely outweigh the pros.

Pros:

Deep dark marks were cleared
Breakout severity minimized!!!!
Pill was easy to swallow
My skin looked healthier in general
NO MORE LITTLE RED SPOTS ALL OVER MY FACE! :D

Cons:

Absolutely, positively, no negative comments about this medicine.

As of last month, I have ditched Solodyn. I couldn't be happier with the results, though. My acne, although it hasn't disappeared, looks like it has been treated professionally! Every so often, i would get a minor flaring break out, but it was very easily healed with a regular facial wash. It really did get rid of bacteria from my face because I really noticed pimples just disappearing after using this! I've even been getting comments from my friends saying that they've noticed a change in my face and that I look so much better :D I did see the review below that your acne can return in 3 months... but, I think that all depends on your own, unique skin. As for me, I'm slightly lucky. I no longer have small red spots on my face. I'm totally clear now, and get a medium sized one every so often. If you have skin like I used to have (widespread, small red spots, and just a smidge oily), then I most definitely recommend this medicine for you.

Pros:

clears up acne. just a simple pill to take once a day. it's super cheap with a coupon.

Cons:

slight fatigue
brittle nails

the effect of the drug is pretty good. within the first 2 months, i definitely noticed that my break-outs were much less frequent. by the 3rd and 4th months, my face was noticeably clearer (and smoother!) and break-outs were just not happening at all. i just started my 5th month, and will be taking it for a full 6 months. i'm really afraid of what will happen when i stop taking it. so we'll see. i had moderate acne when i started this, at age 29. my face responded very poorly to benzoyl peroxide and other over the counter stuff, so that's why i decided to go with something which would target the cause of acne, and accutane scares the sh*t out of me. the only side effects of solodyn i've noticed are slight fatigue and brittle nails (both hand and toe). i have to cut my nails much more frequently than before because they break easily once they grow out at all. one totally unintended consequence (unrelated to acne) was that i stopped getting tonsil stones. i haven't seen this reported elsewhere so i thought i'd put it out there. but that was a very pleasant. it cleared them up completely, even though i have had them chronically for 8 years. i think solodyn might make me more tired than i was before, but it's hard to tell because i've also been cutting back on my caffeine intake.
