Pros:

This is the ONLY thing that has worked for me! It's not too expensive, easy, and accessible to everyone w/out a prescription. I have tried everything over-the-counter and seen 3 dermatologists without success. I only wish I'd found this sooner!

Cons:

It can seem a little pricey compared to other vitamins, but if you buy the Trader Joe's brand like I do, you get 90 pills for about $8.
To avoid the fishy smell of the pills and/or fish burps, I recommend putting them in the freezer.

The #1 recommendation I have is: BE PATIENT. I was REALLY skeptical. I've had acne for as long as I can remember, have tried everything (prescription, OTC, and diets), and nothing worked. I already knew about the other health benefits of omega-3's, so I figured they could only do me good. I've been taking the pills for 3 months now and I'm only just now starting to see the real benefits. For the first 2 months my skin looked the same if not worse, but I stuck with it and my skin got better. I used an aspirin mask to deal with any break-outs. But NOW - now that it's been 3 months, I am amazed! It's that time of the month (usually my WORST break-outs) and I only have 2 tiny zits. don't even wear foundation anymore - I don't need to! Looking back at old pictures from 4 months ago, I don't even recognize my skin.

Pros:

Has helped w/ acne (inflammation,) depression, migraines, and hair is silkier

Cons:

You get what you pay for. Good fish oils w/out tons of garbage fillers and toxins will cost $20 - $30 (but they are more potent, and worth every penny!)

I started fish oils a couple of years ago for acne + depression after reading about it here! I was taking it for a good long while, but slowly declined and eventually stopped. Just recently I started again, this time investing in the best quality I could find. So far I'm on day 2, and have noticed an immediate difference. My skin feels moisturized from the inside out, and seems to glow. My lips haven't been as dry/cracked. Some of my swollen pimples are already becoming smaller. My hair which is often tangly is tangle free + silky. Last but not least it really does help w/ depression! I am using Norwegian Gold Critical Omega which was recommended by an alternative doctor. I think another one is Nordic ___ something or other. Anyway, bottom line: I really do feel health comes from the inside out, and you CAN heal your body / life / acne! YOU CAN DO IIITTT! <3

Don't be fooled with dosage
I have long been a proponent of fish oil for all of the well documented benefits. For several years I would give my daughter several pills a day for pcos and acne, but it did not seem to make much of a dent. I finally got serious about looking at the EPA and DHA content and discovered that her dosage was way less than expected. I bought a liquid fish oil and gave her about 3000-4500 mg of EPA+DHA per day. Her skin went from seriously acne prone (blackheads and pimples) to clear in a matter of a few days. This has been an eye opener for both of us. She is also gluten and dairy free, but it wasn't until good doses of fish oil that her skin cleared up.

Pros:

Assisted in clearing skin
Treated hormonal acne
Relatively inexpensive
Effective
Overall beneficial
Improves mood
Wake up alert instead of tired

Cons:

Make sure you buy a coated capsule/tablet or else you will have some fishy breath!

I have moderate hormonal acne. I break out around my chin and jawline. I've been seeing a dermatologist for nearly a year. First I was put on Doxycycline. When my acne didn't respond to that after three months, my dermatologist added Ziana to my regimen. Four months later and no improvements, I was put on Solodyn and Benzaclin instead. Nothing was working! She decided to fight hormones with hormones, and I was prescribed Ortho Tri Cyclen to take along with the Solodyn. A few months later, still no results. I started taking 1000mg fish oil capsules (Nature Made) twice a day. After two weeks, I noticed definite improvement. My skin was clearer and brighter (though not COMPLETELY clear), and I was also in a better mood. I was able to sleep better at night, and woke up feeling refreshed and alert instead of pressing the snooze button 4 times. After about a month using the fish oil, my skin is 99% clear. I get a small breakout around my period, but nothing like how it used to be. Fish oil. Who knew?

Pros:

my skin is almost 100% better
confidence!!

Cons:

sometimes it upsets my stomach, but it's completely worth it.

I have had acne since I was about 14 and I'm now 20. I've taken antibiotics, over the counter topical medications, retin-A, and even TWO rounds of accutane. I am taking nature's bounty fish oil pills which has 300 mg of omega 3's in each pill. I started taking them 36 days ago. I started taking one pill a day (i'm 95 pounds) then slowly upped it to two pills a day and then finally the recommended dosage of 3 pills a day which is 900 mg of omega 3s. Ever since I upped my dosage to 900 mg a day I have seen almost complete improvement. I have tried EVERYTHING and I really really suggest that if you have had acne for as long as I have to at least give this a try. I created an account just to write this review! I know how tough the struggle is with acne, hopefully this helps you guys too!

Pros:

Clears up skin fast
No more oily skin
Shrinks pore size
No more cystic acne
Super easy to take
Don't have a bad taste or smell

Cons:

NONE!

I can't believe I am barely finding out about this magic little pill! I am 25 years old and have been fighting oily, acne prone skin for the past 10 years. I also got put on thyroid medication which messed up my hormones and gave me really bad cystic acne. Many days it was so bad that I was in tears and didn't want to leave the house. I started taking this 1 month ago after a friend recommended it and within 3 days my skin went from horrible to beautiful! I really recommend this supplement. I take the Spring Valley brand found at Walmart. It is the all natural enteric, regular strength fish oil, 1000 mg. (300 mg of omega 3). Hope this helps others out there like it did for me!

Pros:

*The first thing that has noticeably and consistently worked for me.
*Fairly easily accessible

Cons:

*Needs to be high quality
*Takes time to work (or it did for me)
*Not an instant cure, give it at least a month
*None that outweigh having clear skin!

I have fought with acne since I was 12, but at 18 it basically exploded. For the last 3 years I have tried to kick this thing but have had no real success. Improvement started when I began using flaxseeds (also containing omega 3) and with the addition of fish oil about 3 months ago, the difference is truly remarkable. My skin has continually gotten better, and my nearly severe acne and horrid skin quality is now almost normal looking. I started with less and upped the dosage to the current 4 1000mg pills per day, though I may raise this as it seems to do only good. My skin is still not perfect, but with these pills and eating oily fish several times a week my skin is better than I can remember. My scars heal with time and although I still get some tiny blackheads and little white pimples in my trouble areas, I am fully confident that I will soon be acne free. It is worth noting that this did take time, and was not an amazing, clear-in-one-week, instant cure though this may be because my hormones are particularly out of whack. Make sure that it is a high quality fish oil. Although they are cheaper, basic ones from drug stores may be just that; cheap. Try to find something from a natural foods store that is of a better quality and I think it makes a big difference (I take wild Alaskan salmon oil). I also eat very healthy so that may also help, but bottom line: this has worked for me and virtually cleared me of years of acne and acne scars. Well worth a try I'd say!

Pros:

helped clear my acne, hyperpigmentation and leaves my skin alot smoother and less oily.

Cons:

none as far as i can tell

I've read several reviews on here with people saying this does not work, but most of the people do not know how to dose fish oil properly. If done correctly it can do miracles for your skin. I use NOW ultra omega 3 which contains 500 mg of EPA and 250 mg of DHA per capsules (one of the most potent fish oil formulas on the market at a cheap price). I take 4 of these with spread out through the day with my meals or snacks. EPA is an inflammatory and for most people to notice any kind of a difference in their skin (especially those with more severe acne) I would suggest getting in atleast 1.5-2 grams/ day. I guarantee atleats 80% of the reviewers here that is giving fish oil a bad name is using cheap, low concentrated fish oil capsules and are simply not getting enough EPA into their bodies to notice any dramatic difference. I've experimented with different dosages already, at 1 gram my acne calmed down alot, but i would still get occasional pimples, at 2 grams of EPA now daily, I haven't had any new pimples for around 2 weeks. Bottom line- make sure you get enough EPA and DHA into you daily (2g/1g) -buy an ultra concentrated fish oil like NOW ULTRA OMEGA 3 -take capsules with meals to improves its digestion, dont take them all at once or some of the acid will not get absorbed. -GIVE IT TIME, it will take atleast 2-3 months to really start noticing dramatic changes in your skin, health, and well being. DO NOT rush this process, it does work.

Pros:

Improvement of mood
Improvement of breakouts
Less scaring

Cons:

Indigestion

I have been using fish oil for two weeks, and I can definitely say there's an improvement on my mood, and an improvement on my acne. I can focus better, my face doesn't scar as much, and my mood has been more balanced than before. I definitely recommend fish oil for someone who's looking to improve their acne, or for someone who's looking to improve their mood! The product I use - Finest One-Per-Day Fish Oil - has definitely helped me out greatly!
