Pros:

Very easy to use, quick, effective.

Cons:

None that I can think of.

This is not a miracle drug! Don't expect anything to be. But of all the things I've tried (and really, I've tried it all), it's the most low maintenance product with the best results. I just put a bunch of it on my face (more than a pea size) at night and my skin is noticeably better. Yes, I still get acne and break outs, but they seem less severe. Most of my whiteheads are gone and my skin is much smoother. The one $25 bottle I bought isn't even half way empty and I got it 4 months ago. I use cetaphil face wash first, then ziana, then a moisturizer. Maybe for those who have had a bad experience they have a different kind of acne than me. I had a lot of white heads that would eventually turn into pus filled pimples (gross, I know) that I could always pop. Maybe it doesn't work for those with cystic acne or little tiny pimples. Good luck!

Pros:

Worked quickly
No side effects
Got rid of my acne problem!

Cons:

Dries skin that a moisturizer can't fix right away

I used this along with the oral pill, Doxycycline. So honestly it could have been the pill that helped my acne problem, or maybe it was a combination of them both. But for this product, less is more! My doctor told me to use it every night all over my face. But I used a TINY bit every other night, and only on my forehead, nose and chin (where I had the problems). I eventually worked up to more as my skin adjusted to it. My face did not get worse before it got better, it just gradually became clear. It was also only really dry for about 3 days. Now I might get about one pimple a month, and it would be a small one. It's so nice to not have to worry about it anymore! I've been using it for about 4 months now. Now I just have to get rid of the acne scars!

Pros:

Works

Cons:

Purging
Takes months for it work
Dries your face for the first few weeks

I had deep cystic acne on my cheeks that hurt alot. I've tried proactiv, doxycycline, sodium sulfacetamide, minocycline and none of them worked. I first started using it Dec. 2009. Brokeout HORRIBLY. It was bad. So I stopped for about 1 month. After a month I decided to give it another shot, with the idea that "it can't get any worse than it already is". So i got back on it in Feb. 2010. Started using it consistently every night. By the end of March things were looking better, about 3-4 pimples on each cheek, with the occasional 2 or 3 on my forehead and chin. It's now May and my cheeks, chin and forehead are clear. All that remains are red marks and a few pimples on my jaw line. I am currently using baby soap as a face wash, ziana at night, and acanya in the morning. I took bactrim ds for about 2 weeks in Feb. but stopped because of the side-effects. Ziana works, just stick to it.

Pros:

Fades acne scars/dark spots
Controls acne flare ups right away
Balances skin tone

Cons:

Drys out skin first couple of weeks
Creates redness
Causes sensitivity if exposed to sun often

My dream prescription. I had given up on topical and oral treatments and was on the verge of coming to terms with my adult acne. Paid a visit to the derm and he suggested Ziana based on my age (29), type of acne (hormonal), and skin (bi-racial). I have been using this once a day, after cleansing at night with Glytone - which I also swear by for those adults who want to combat acne and aging skin - along with Doxicyclone, an oral antibiotic that treats bacterial infections from the inside out. This three-step ritual has been my saving grace. I noticed results immediately. The gel worked to clear up the surface of my skin and the oral medication helps future breakouts by treating bacteria internally. For those that have had acne for years as I have, you know that bacteria is the root of all pimples and both the Ziana and the Doxi have cleared up my skin in a matter of weeks. The cons I listed are worth it because the dryness doesn't last once your PH levels balance out. And the tube is huge! You only need a pea sized amount - the gel spreads easily and is so effective that there is no need to slather on. Will continue to use until my derm stops prescribing. Worth it, worth it, worth it!

Pros:

Gentle and effective on my skin and acne.

Cons:

Expensive without insurance and can dry skin.

I had doubts about Ziana at first. The gel didn't seem very convincing. I had swollen pimples on my forehead and the worst BACKNE ever. Every night I applied a thin layer to my back right after showering and waited about 15 seconds to dry before putting on my clothes then going to sleep. in about a a week and a half, MY ACNE WAS GONE! Great Great GREATNESS! ;{D

Pros:

Shrunk pores
Cleared up acne
Not drying

Cons:

Skin becomes a little more oily

Prior to going to the dermatologist, I had very oily skin (it would become slick about two hours after washing my face) and tons of cystic acne that would leave bad scars. On top of that, it was extremely sensitive to the point where any drugstore medicated creams, gels, lotions and washes (salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, I've tried also anti-bacterial washes, scrubs, high end and low end... everything really) as well as some prescriptions (tretinoin .1%) would cause my skin to flake and sometimes scab over while new acne was still forming and oil was still producing. It was strange. On my first trip to the dermatologist, I was given Ziana gel to be used after a sulfur wash at night and taken with 75mg of spironolactone. In the morning I would use Cetaphil, a Clinique toner (number 3), and spf 30 Aveeno moisturizer. I was told that it wouldn't work for weeks and possibly months, but literally after the first week I noticed a dramatic difference. I was ready to experience the "purging" and have my skin dry out, but none of that happened. All the cystic acne stopped to form and my skin started to brighten up. I've been using the same regimen for about four months now, and I have probably had three pimples that were noticeable in that whole time. I get occasional little bumps but those go away overnight. My scars finally have a chance to fade, and I think the Ziana helps it along. The only downside I've noticed is that my skin is still oily and possibly even more so. I'm still trying to figure out a way to tame it. I had a friend who told me a few weeks ago that my skin looked porcelain and perfect and that meant so much to me after 7 years of terrible acne! I would recommend this product to anyone.

Pros:

great skin clearing, anti-aging benefits of a retinoid (helps cell turnover and collagen regeneration)

Cons:

can cause redness for sensitive skin, can't use this if you have a history of ulcerative colitis etc

A little goes a long way. Do not use a lot. Worked very well for me. For those that have reported acne getting worse while using it, this sometimes has to happen, any current acne pustules on your face that are already beginning to surface need to purge so you can clean the pores. It may take 8-12 weeks before you get optimum results so you have to be patient with any acne medication. With this product you also need to gradually use. I do not use this everyday. Start using 1 day/week and work up. It may be helpful to use an oral antibiotic in addition to the topical use of Ziana for the 1st month as my doctor did. I have adult combination acne (cystic and papules) and this is the best my skin has looked. I use this product 2-3x/ week and then I started using a natural green clay mask 1x every 2 weeks. (Indian Healing Clay: Calcium Bentonite) P.S. I paid nothing for this product go to Medicis Medisave program on Ziana's website to get a coupon. My dermatologist also gave me a manufacturers coupon for 1 free 60g tube.

Pros:

Great, it really works. When used properly and in conjunction with other products.

Cons:

It is very harsh on the skin, so your skin needs to be extreme amounts of oil or needs to be used with moisturizers. Also, a person on this medication needs to understand the cause of acne.

Many people mistreat their acne and think that the more medication they apply and the more they wash their face, the better their acne will get; that is a completely untrue assumption. Your skin must remain a high amount of moisture when using the Ziana. I have been using with good success the CereVe hydrating cleanser and lotion on my face everyday in the morning and has helped my face and calmed breakouts. At night I use Ziana and Triazâ„¢3% pads, my ance is 100% better, you need to be very careful with sun exposure because it will dry out your face, the only breakout I hav gotten have been after extended periods in the sun, I always use a Oil Free and non- comeogenic sunblock and try to stay in the sun as little as possible. But The system really works, don't be worried if your acne gets a little worse in the begining, you will generally adjust to Ziana and figure out how to make it work, it has been just about 2.5 months and it was worth the wait, my skin is finally clearing up and it feels great!

Pros:

easy to use

Cons:

having to be patient with it, some peeling and redness, also very expensive w/out insurance, I used discount card for 25$ but my pharmacist said it's normally four hundred plus dollars!! (w/out ins.)

I've been using the product now for about 3 weeks. It's been kind of on and off. At first my face cleared up really well then at the beginning of the third week I started breaking out on one side of my face SO bad, didn't want to leave my house. So that weekend I stayed home and didn't wear make-up and used ziana day and night and by Monday the breakout was already healed up and going away. Now I am still getting one or two very small ones, but all in all my face is looking so much better than it did before the product. I am happy with the results so far and hopefully everything will continue to keep getting better. =D

My experience this far... Long read

Pros:

scars fade
small surface pimples go away quick
cheap with insurance

Cons:

my face is red
peeling
Not sure if it is getting rid of clogged pores or not..

First, I want to share my background. I have never had a problem with acne. I have always had very smooth clear skin, with an occasional outbreak. I started washing with proactive in 2006 when I was 18 for prevention of those minor outbreaks (I don't recommend this because it destroys your skins natural barrier). Two years ago, in 2011, I started getting a cystic pimple every couple months, that I would handle by getting a cortisone injection. Not a big problem. Then Last year, in May 2012, I got my mirena birth control removed. I had an AWFUL outbreak. Huge pimples that wouldn't go away. One swelled up after it popped when I washed my face.. it was half the size of my forhead. I had cystic pimples, surface pimples, and clogged pores. My dermatologist put me on Doxy, spirolactone, and retin-A. After a few months, and a couple deep cleansing facials, my skin was clear... but I still had scars. In August, I decided to stop using Retin-A because my skin was still red. I started using Pro-Active again, and continued taking Doxy and Spiro. My scars went away in less then a month, and I had completely clear beautiful skin for about 6 months. In February, 2013, my skin started looking red and a little oily. By April, I started getting minor clogged pores that would go away fairly quickly, and I started getting cystic pimples every once in a while. I decided to stop washing with Pro-Active In june because I found out that it can cause oily skin. I also stopped taking doxy because it wasn't preventing acne anymore. I started using Jojoba oil to cleanse, but this only lasted a month because it was cause tiny little white heads to surface all over my face. I started using Cerave to cleanse. It doesn't create acne on my face. I did have clogged pores on my chin and forehead from the Jojoba oil. They are skin colored tiny bumps. I had a similar reaction years ago. I've now learned that it just doesn't agree with me. By August, I was getting more and more cystic pimples. Usually only one at a time, but when one would go away, another would appear. My dermatologist prescribed me Klarons. This did nothing for my skin. The cystic pimples kept coming and the clogged pores stayed where they were. I used it for over a month before I stopped. In September I decided to risk using Proactive again. It did nothing. It didn't make it worse or better. My skin was still pink, still a little oily, still had the clogged pores, and I was still getting those dang cystic pimples. This is when the Dermatologist prescribed me Ziana........ On September 25, 2013 I started using Ziana, and also had a bad cystic pimple injected. First week: (9/25) peeling. Red face. surface acne and scars start to go away. No change to clogged pores. Cystic on on left side of nose goes down but still under the surface. Second week: (10/2) less peeling. Red face. Scars fading very quickly. No change to clogged pores. Cystic on on left side of nose starts coming back... Two heads. Cystic appears on right side of nose. Third week: (10/9) (Stopped spirolacton on 10/11) New Small pimples show up but come to a head and go away quickly with in a couple days. Oily skin. Less peeling. Red face. Old scars almost gone. New scars fade quick. Both cystic pimples still present but no pain. One deep clogged pore is gone after popping it, but 8 remain. Forth week: (10/16) Tiny amount of peeling. Red face. Oily skin. Old scars almost gone. New scars still fade quick. Both cystic pimples still present, the one on right is forming a white head. Deep clogged pores still there. I'm getting the two cystics injected tomorrow and I will be back to update how this week goes. I have my fingers crossed...
