Pros:

Clears acne

Cons:

Takes its time clearing acne
Dried up skin for a week straight (to the point where I could not move my face)
Requires a lot of moisturizing
Caused permanent wrinkling and damage to my skin

Just not worth it.

Pros:

Easy to use

Cons:

Drying, irritating (itches), didn't improve acne (it worsened), inflammation associated with use

I started using this medication after I was successfully clear for nearly a year with minocycline and was prescribed this by my family practice doctor. I am a teenager so maybe my hormones affected my skin but within 2 weeks my face flared up with new red and peeling acne that was quite painful. After applying the medication for 4 weeks total, it only further exacerbated the acne. Never again...

Pros:

i like the consistency, somewhat gel-like

Cons:

over drying
causes severe redness
stinging

Personally, I didn't like this stuff. My Dr prescribed me it and retin-a. This stuff stung like crazy for me! I think the 5% bp is too much for my skin maybe? And it was not because of the retin-a, because i did a bit of a test and used only benzaclin for the 1st month and i couldn't handle the stinging(maybe im a wuss), but it never subsided until i wiped it off. Very irritating! So anyways, i've heard great things about this stuff, but for me personally didn't work. (hence the no recommendation) everyones skin is different! retin-a did wonders tho if interested :)

Pros:

Most of my breakouts cleared up

Cons:

My skin was so dry it hurt, even though I used Cerave am and pm

It dried my face out do bad that I had to stop using it. I have moved on to Differin. We shall see.

Pros:

Clears bumps and whiteheads. Cheap.

Cons:

Causes breakouts, smells, bleaches everything, leaves skin dry and tight. Doesn't affect blackheads/ cystic acne. As good as usless for body acne.

I used this in combination with a very effective pill to clear up my back. The problem is that Benzaclin is very clogging to pores. Even as a spot treatment, I found that it will reduce the size/ redness of the spot in question, but a day or two later, there's a whole new crop of blackheads to contend with. Benzaclin only takes care of whiteheads and little bumps in my experience, and, considering most of my bacne is blackheads/ cystic in nature, not of much help. Also, it will bleach whatever it's in contact with and has a horrid smell. Perhaps it works better on the face, but if bacne is your problem, avoid Benzaclin.

Pros:

didn't really dry my skin out,

Cons:

was hard to wear under make up, took a while to see result and then pimples came back.

I am a 31 year old female and have been suffering from adult acne that has been worsening over the last year. This winter has really done a job and I have been getting really really bad large reddned raised pimples that seem to be appearing and reappearing in the same areas (cheeks, jaw and above eyebrow). The breakouts seem to start about 1 week before my menstrual cycle and last about 3 weeks before calming down. I started using the Duac and after a few weeks I realized that I wasn't getting any new breakouts (even right before my next cycle), but it wasn't doing much to help the breakouts that were already there. After about 5-6 weeks I started getting another bad breakout of 4-5 new pimples and decided to try something else. Went to the derm and he gave me epiduo and doxycycline which I have been on for the last week and am already seeing results. I wanted to love Duac because it wasn't harsh - despite the 5% BP. Altogether I gave Duac about 7 weeks before deciding to change treatment. I am currently using epiduo samples but when they run out I plan to ask for generic differin (adapalene) and then I will go back to the duac in combination with the adapalene. My research on Duac indicated that it works best in combination with other topicals, so I will update on that later.

Pros:

Keeps spots at the same level

Cons:

Takes a long time.
If you stop using it, you breakout the next day.
Dry's skin out.
Hardly reduces spots.
Bleaches hair and duvet.

I was prescribed this by a doctor and told me how to use it. I did exactly what they said and it doesn't reduce my spots, it just keeps them at the same level. If you stop using it, you breakout the next day. I am like the only one in my year group with spots and this girl who had literally one tiny spot which you could hardly see was prescribed this, so that shows they prescribe it to anyone whether they have a lot of acne or not.

Cons:

Not strong enough.

I prefer Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% Pan oxyl.

Pros:

Works for a while (A year for me)
Quickly reduces pimples.

Cons:

After a little over one year i've developed immunity.

At first i when i got this product i loved it! I would get the hormonal pimple from that time of the month and it would clear it within a day. Now it takes 5 days to clear a pimple. Also i've noticing it's causing lots of little small pimples (just like when i first started using it) almost like an initial breakout but this time i think it's from a dependency. It's a good cream, but it will not permanently cure acne. . . Going back to the dermatologist in a month, going to try accutane for my mild persistent acne. I've tried everything else.

Pros:

Made a big difference in clearing my acne after the first time I used it.

Cons:

After the second time I used it I became severely allergic with a red rash over my entire face, very dry, itchy and bumpy. It's even under my chin and on my eyelids where I didn't put the gel. It's really horrible and I look freaky.

If you are allergic to any creams or lotions on your face, you will be allergic to this - don't use it. I am allergic to any moisturiser or sunscreen that has perfume in it, and I've had same reaction as that. It's really disappointing because I have a massive (I'm talking really huge) spot on my forehead that has practically vanished after using it only twice so I can see that it would really work, if I could use it. But now I look worse than I did last week because of this hideous rash. I have to use cortisone to get rid of it. It's a bit expensive too, cost $45 although I will get some back on my health insurance (not sure how much).
