Try hitting the sauna (or hot shower + doors closed) to open your pores, and using a cleanser and/or honey scrub. Also, look into apple cider vinegar for the skin.

It should be safe as long as you don't use the stuff again. And I don't really know any safe substitutes for effectively acid...I say make the sacrifice and take 9 months of acne for a healthy baby.
