Hey guys!
This is my first post so sorry if i don't get terms right. Basically I am a 16 year old male so it is expected for me to get some breakouts. It all started about 2 years ago when I first started taking care of my skin, I noticed my spots got worse and it turned into one or two spots a week to one new spot everyday. I don't know if these spots are called whiteheads but I mean the ones that get a head and you can pop them! Obviously after I noticed I was getting more spots I started to try more and more things and that resulted in more spots. Fast forward to about October 2014 my spots were fine and I only got about one whitehead? A week and it was fine.
Recently though, from about January this year, my skin got worse and it went back to how it was when I got a new spot everyday. After many days of sudocreme covered nights I had enough and decided to go to my GP. He told me to wash my face whenever it got oily and swim all the time to "Burn off all the acne", he decided to give me Metronidazole and said to wash my face with the Simple face wash and no moisturiser. I do admit after using it for about two weeks I kind of regained confidence and my skin got better and less red. This was all fine until I noticed I started getting hard lumps that were red and itchy around my chin and jaw line area. I guess I have to mention that I have never ever had spots on my cheeks before just my forehead, chin, nose area and upper lip area.
So these itchy lumps that were red lost their painful-ness and redness after about 3 days but then they just remain as hard lumps! They are still there now and they just feel like a hard lump under the skin with a dark mark above it. I think they are called papules or cystic acne I do not know but these obviously made me feel that the treatment I was on was bad. I continued using the gel and doing what the doctor said and as I said before, my forehead looked great and all you could see was the previous marks from spots. Due to the hard lumps I kept getting for the first time ever I actually cried and got another appointment after a month of using the Metronidazole. The GP just kept saying to me " You will grow out of it" and after awhile he gave me Clindamycin. After research I got scared of it and plus they didn't have any in stock at the moment. So, this weekend I have continued to use the Metronidazole. This was until today (Sunday 31st) I woke up and I had 6, yes SIX, new spots on my chin area, upper lip, cheek and forehead. Oh my god I have never been so fed up of my skin in my entire life. Obviously I cried again and now I do not know what to do! Do I get the Clindamycin and try that or just continue using the Metronidazole. I really do not know what to do as I feel like I need to be referred to a dermo to get the correct treatment. If any of you can help please do not hesitate to comment.
Thank You for reading my annoyingly long story!

(p.s! I should probably mention that I eat so healthy and I have given up dairy and things that i feel are giving me spots. Plus, the only drink i ever drink is water so yeah this is partly to why I am so upset about having these spots)
Testosterone is a bitch! For men and women. It plays a big role in how much oil our skin creates - (I am a woman, so I had the option of spironolactone, which reduces teatosterone at the hair follicle. So it's not a hormone, but it effects hormones, and it's not appropriate for men, to my knowledge.) However, the derm also gave me a topical - amd that is what cleared me up initially. It's called Tactupump here in Canada and is 2.5 benzol peroxide and a retinoid.
Your doctor sounds like he has no compassion for your situation. Can you see someone else? Get referred to a derm if you can. And shop around for one interested in their "craft" of helping people with skin issues, compassionate, and willing to keep trying to help you make your life better. That's their job and you are their patient - but also their client. In other words, a customer.
Sorry to rant but I've no time for shitty doctors.
