sadly i dont think the dr in dubai is going to be as of much help atm.
im seeing dr khan to discuss this..we both are determined to create a REAL solution specificaly for acne scars..trauma scars and burn scars..hes a supremely determined Dr..and does look outside the box
I can tell you from Dr Khan there will be an even more effective treatment then the use of adult stem cells from fat..they are multipotent..dr khan has found a way of getting pluripotent stem cells ..way more effective..as it encourages a more fetal response.hes going to china to meet with the owner of the top stem cell labotoary in the whole of asia..hes confident. He said the stem cells would come from the Umbilical cord and are way more potent and primative AND the stem cells in the cord actualy arent rejected (no sign of immunity problems even from a donor)..
t stem cells from fat are multipotent and not that effiecient ( less primative)
stem cells from the ubilocal cord contain pluripotent properties and are far more primative and with fetal growth factors.
im rather excited about this to say the least.
Good. It makes sense for him to do this because if he finds a technique which gives actual brilliant long term results it would make him incredibly rich and good for him I say, I am more than happy to pay a large sum of money if IT ACTUALLY WORKS.
dr khan mentioned this..and he said oone of the key aspects was to make these fetal stem cells work for only a short period..it was complicated but i trust him!
Okay, so that is incorperated. Thank you for your explanation Icaretohelp. I was a bit worried about this since I read this 2006 article in which it was stated it will perhaps never be possible to control the development of umbilical stem cells, on the other hand those stem cells have been used in the treatment for diseases succesfully for some years now if I'm not wrong. It seems very promising.
Do you know when Dr. Kahn will be starting those treatments and are you in contact with him about having such a treatment performed?
I think the biggest doubt is how long these "stem cells" will work for. There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that stem cells will lead to an improvement of 60%+, the only question is how long they will last for.
I believe Dr Khan has used stem cells for breast scars, and it has last past one year. However, he is new to acne scarring and as I understand it correctly, he has been doing it for less than 1 year. So, the question therefore lies - will the effect of the stell cells on the scarred area be visible after 1 year?
I emailed an expert acne doctor to find out his views, and he told me:
"Only about 30% of transplanted adipose-derived stem cells survive beyond 12 months period. That is why 3 treatments are typically needed fully restore tissue to near normal volume". Like PRP therapies, stem cell therapy is still at its infancy and not well documented/researched in terms of efficacy and safety. I've have a few patient's from UK, who received adipose stem cell treatment from a doctor in London. They told me that they were satisfied with the result initially, but after 10~12 months their scars came back".
Learning from this, it appears that stem cells will not last past a year. However, this is an opinion based on a practising doctor who is a leading expert on scar treatment.
I am thinking of having a consultation with Dr Khan. For A100, it is fully worth it to see what he thinks.
I believe that the younger you are whentyou have the fat removed the more stem cells inside the fat and the more viable. One area that has alot of stem cells is the innerknee fat.
I only had one transfer when Iwas 23 and all of it lasted.(too much actually)
I also think the stem cells last forever and are turned on at trauma and then after that
work at the rate of ageing slowly repleneshing normally dyeing cells, with a progressive effect.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like my scars are slowly coming back after just 4 -5 months. My skin still looks better but the rolling scars which were plumped up with the surgery now seem to be going back again I need to make an appointment with dr khan as I haven't seen him in a few months. I expect he may suggest another treatment like fraxel but to be honest, I don't have the funds and don't want to take the risk so I may just ask for a temporary filler instead. I'm still happy with the results and hope my skin stays like this but as I'm still meant to be in the improvement stage and am noticing a halt and even regression, I have a feeling it may just get worse from now on.
You had stem cell treatment with Dr Khan right? The general opinion on this forum is that it costs £6500 in total? Is that what you paid?
Shame about it coming back but I feel stem cells will only last for 1 year and the gain after will be at around 30%
Thanks
Colin

i have definitely given up on this treatment, and will go to NY this summer to get liquid silicone injections with DR Channing Barnett. Reason is quite obvious, this treatment is not very much researched, and noone knows how results are going to turn out, and I am pretty fed up doing procedures that dont give me results. I guess that doctros here in my country dont have a clue how to fix acne scarring, even this moderate such as mine.

What was the procedure you had was it just injections? If so I think that is the problem. Ernest in the other thread had a mixture of treatments and I believe that is the best path. Scars like rolling ones are tethered down in a way, an injection on its own may plump it up but it is not going to completely fix it. On the other hand having a mix of treatments like subcision and lasers lets the stem cells repair the skin from the inside out. Both with healing time and scar repair.
I don't really understand the 'temporary results' thing. I mean, aren't we confusing swelling with results here. When we are talking about fat injections with activated stem cells we're talking about major swelling. Having stem cells injected from fat, means swelling for many months because of the cannula passes, the fact part of the fat will not gain blood supply and won't survive, what means you'll lose volume in a matter of months. When you lose volume because of swelling going down/losing part of the fat in the first 3-6 months, the acne scars will automatically become more visible again, but that doesn't mean the stem cells are not doing there work, imo.
I thought stem cells improve the skin the in a way that is visible particularly the first year, to 1,5 year. After that the stem cells are still there, of course, but less noticeable improvement is to be expected. (That doesn't mean you will see diminishing results, though). When people say they see results fading after a month of 5-6 I think they see swelling going away: what they thought was 'the result' in the first months after the treatment, was actually swelling that seemed to diminish the scars. After that the results of the actual treatment become visible. Well that's my opinion at least.
Hello,
I read/watched on Dr. Lam's site (he does fat grafting) that since fat is a live graft it takes a bit for it to "take root". He says there is a dip in the appearance of volume around 3 months and then as the the fat starts to establish a blood supply you will see improvement over the next 1-2 years. He also has a woman in his before/ after pics with a long scar as a result of a car accident. After many revisions (with other surgeons) she went to Dr. Lam for fat grafting. In one of his vlogs he states that her scar improved 80% after (I think) 18 months. Maybe this is the same principle for stem cells. For more info you can check out lamfacialplastics.com

This sounds promising Marko. Tell me more about Dr Channing Barnett and this treatment? Cost, long term, results?

How do u agree putting something artificial into your skin???
and you are saying you have moderate scars.i think there is no need for rush.
Dear icaretohelpl,
sorry if this has already been mentioned, but how severe was your scarring? Could you maybe compare your scarring to a famous peron's scarring, brad pitt, dane cook etc. (the definition of severe scars is very different on this forum. i would say if you have brad pitt kind of scarring then you dont have a problem at all) the reason that im asking is because you say your scars are gone and i therefore wonder how sevre they were.
thanks
