Please someone tell me Dr Khan isn't charging 35,000! If he is I may as well cancel the consultation now. I thought it would be about a thousand!

I think you can safely assume it will be more than a thousand. BRD has said that unfortunately, only people with thick wallets will be able to afford the treatment he himself offers as well... All stem cell treatments cost a fortune, I think.

But the figure $35.000 that the clinic in the USA charges, comes in part from the fact that they have their patients pay for accomodations. You see, they have their patients staying in a hotel of sorts where they are being monitored for a time by the doctors after the treatment. To insure everything goes well, they say. Dr Khan doesn't do that as far as I know, so it should be a lot less than $35.000 but I'd be surprised if it was only $1000.

This is my first post on this site but after discovering it about a month ago and reading some of the threads I went to see Dr Khan and thought I should contribute.

I had laser resurfacing done in 2005 but it's left me with patches of hypopigmentation and much of the scarring is still there. After giving up on my original dermatologist I decided to see another last year but she told me there was no treatment. After a few more months I went to a local cosmetic surgery clinic but again they said there was nothing they could do.

I then discovered this site and got alot of hope reading about various treatments I'd not previously heard of.

Good things seemed to be written about Dr Khan and as I live in England I decided to see him.

He first suggested using the Fraxel laser. I then mentioned stem cells to him and he said that is another possible treatment I could try. He said the treatment would involve removing fat from my abdomen, processing it (I assume he uses his Celution System machine for this but I didn't ask) and then later on the same day he would inject the concentrated stem cells back into my face. He would also combine this with dermarolling to encourage the healing process. From what I understand this is not the stem cell treatment that BRD has described but it will still be using a high enough concentration of stem cells to hopefully be effective.

Dr Khan seemed very confident that either the Fraxel or the fat transfer method would clear my scarring but he couldn't say how much they would help the hypopigmentation.

If I'm lucky it will remove the hypopigmentation but he said if it doesn't then he could try taking a small sample of my skin, separate and harvest the melenocytes and then inject them back into my pale patches. Again though he couldn't promise this would be successful.

As far as the cost goes he says the Fraxel would be A3500 for my whole face and the fat injections would be A6500. He said that if I needed the melenocyte injections he would not make any further charges for this but there may be some charge from the place that does the harvesting.

I'm now trying to learn more about these treatments so I can make a decision on how to proceed.

6500 pounds... That's 7440 Euros and 10767 Dollars. Interesting... Does he charge the same amount of money regardless of the size of the area that he injects the stem cells in?

When he said A6500 I got the impression it was his standard price but I'm not sure.

im curious in what kind of treatment you had in 2005? was that the fraxel restore laser or the originial carbon dioxide laser?

It was the CO2 laser. I'd never heard of Fraxel till I found this website. I'm working my way through reading the Fraxel thread - all 279 pages of it. I'm thinking that's probably the treatment I'll go for

I think u may need additional treatments like icaretohelp to see drastic improvement. Something like fraxel repair and PRP injections to go along with the stem cell injections.

Btw is maru around, Im kinda hoping to know how his treatment is panning out.

I've got my treatment booked for next Saturday. He explained that I will get to his clinic at 8:30, he'll do a skin analysis and take some photos and then we're going to a nearby hospital. Then he's going to take fat from my lower back/hip area in 2 places I think... one for the stem cells and one for the graft (sorry I can't remember this part too well). Then I wait while the magic happens in the stem cell machine and then I get sedated and have the procedure. He suggested fraxel but as I haven't got much time and apparently the skin needs to be prepared for this, I'm getting dermarolled instead. I should be done at around 3pm. Apparently my face will be red afterwards but within a few days it should get better and I should hopefully be able to see an improvent in a couple of weeks. The whole procedure costs ‚£6500 but I don't mind paying if it results in more confidence.

He also said that he gets about 3 patients a week for this treatment and people are even flying in from different countries to see him. He seems confident about it and says the results so far have been very good. I'm still nervous but am also excited to see the results. I think this could be the answer a lot of people have been looking for.

Aha, so 6500 Pounds is the standard price, then. Well, if it really does make a significant change it should be well worth it.

what type of scars do you have, does this work for icepick scars as i have read these are the hardest to treat. Also did Dr Khan mention how much improvement you are likley to see. How many stem cell treatments will you need done ?

I have mainly depressed scars... he said they would be ideal for the stem cell treatment as opposed to ice picks which are harder to treat. Sorry I'm not sure what effect they would have on icepicks but I assume it would benefit them, maybe just not as much as rolling scars, you'd have to ask him. I got the impression I would only need one treatment, well I sure hope so anyway because I can't afford to shell out another 6500! He said I'd continue to see an improvement in my skin over the next 3-6 months.

You guys are all just breaking my heart! I've been through hell and back too. Had a plastic surgeon make my mild scars worse. Been recovering from that and struggling to have normal relationships ever since.

You are right, nobody that doesn't suffer through something similar could understand, though some people are capable of being more sympathetic than others.
