I'm amazed at how good this stuff feels on the skin, I applied it last night and this morning and it really seems to be reducing excess oil on my face really well, something I could never do.. And I don't even need to moisturize afterwards it leaves my skin in a nice condition. I'll keep using it to see if it helps with red marks and/or existing acne.

BTW, for the people comparing it to AHA moisturizers, I didn't see anything great when I used the AHA's. I used the neutrogena healthy skin face lotion morning and night along with my regimen for 4-5 months and it really didn't doo much for my red marks.. Here's hoping this stuff will.

Cool, something to get rid of the oil factory on my face. I'm going to pick some up tomorrow...uhh..can you get it from a grocery store? or..where? lol

Anyhoo...I'm in the midst of the worst breakout I've had in a while. It looks like I have a second nose coming out of my own :|. I'm using Neutrogena Advanced Solutions therapy kit, this is how my daily 'regimen' goes (everything I use is from the kit):

Morning:

Wash with cleanser (salicylic acid)

Apply Sunshield Day Lotion (SPF 15 + 'Dermanaturals')

Afternoon:

Wash with cleanser

Apply 3.0% BP if i'm at home the rest of the day

Night:

Wash with cleanser

Apply 3.0% BP for the night

Feel free to comment on it and tell me if I should include/get rid of anything (e.g. should I put the BP on in the morning underneath the Day Lotion?)

Just wondering, where in my daily schedule would be the best place to use the ACV?

I think you are washing with the wrong cleanser the BP should be good enough, the SA cleanser 3x a day thats too irritating and would cause the oil.

Wash with something very gentle and mild like a baby shampoo or baby cleanser. Next use the ACV and BP.

You cna buy BP at ur local grocery store and it would be in the salad dressing and olive oil aisle.

I'm currently using a cheap but very mild cleanser with PH 3.5, intended for use in the "intimate areas" of the body.

It works great with ACV, contrary to what one should expect for a cleanser that has a low PH value. It doesn't strip the essential oils the skin needs, but cleanses very gently.

Here in Denmark you can get these "Intimate soaps/cleansers" in any supermarket and they cost about 3-4 $ for 200 ml. It doesn't matter which brand it is as long as the PH value is 3.5, which almost all of them are.

So my regimen is extremely simple now:

Morning and evening:

Wash with "intimate cleanser" (PH 3.5)

Apply Basiron 5% BP, let dry

Apply ACV

That's it!! I don't even have to apply moisturizer!!

(Occasionally I would use Baking Soda as a very gentle exfoliater before washing, since it is alkaline. This would be once or twice a week in the morning.

For a nice finish, I'd might use the Egg-white & Lemon mask, once a week at night before applying BP and ACV, but it's not essential.)

How do you find out the pH of a product?

With a pH indicator... you can buy cheap test strips at any pool supply or fish store, if you don't have access to a lab.

Yes, a pH indicator would be great for those products that do not have the pH level printed on them.

For all the special soaps (intended for cleansing of the intimate areas) that I have come across, the pH level is always printed somewhere on the product. These products also tend to be non-allergic, non-perfumed etc.

Hey SP, did you ever get an initial breakout from ACV? I tried it for a couple of days and at first I noticed an improvement, then suddenly I got a minor breakout. It's already cleared up after a couple of days, but I didn't expect it to happen. So you use it all over your face or only on red spots?

Hello, i've recently bought an acv, apparently it has 6 % (unlike 5 %) and it says it is "apple vinegar" and not apple cider vinegar do you think it's normal?

maybe should i dilute it with more water ?

and by the way how many times a day should you apply the apple vinegar, what is the limit.

Thanks

I havent experienced anything, but then again I'm really only dabbing it on my cheeks, nose, and any other notoriously oily or red marks on my face. It's doing wonders for excess sebum so far, and after a few days I think even the red marks are getting better but its too early to tell right now.

It should be the same thing, just smell it lol the smell of apple cider vinegar is hard not to recognize! Anyway yes dilute it, most people are starting off 50/50 vinegar:water to let their face adjust, then work up more vinegar to water from there.

Thank you for your answer, and another 2 little questions, though it doesn't sting very hard, my face become red after applying acv(or av :) ) even when it isn't stinging anymore,

do you experience a such phenomenon?

and another tiny question, how long should you see the results? i have some red marks and some flat "scars" around my cheeks (although i get a pimple every 5 day or so)

*a little p.s*

are you sure that 6 % acid is Ok?

A big thanks again.

I wish I could give you an accurate answer but at the time while I was using the ACV my hormomes were out of wack and when that happens I always get a minor breakout. I doubt it was the ACV in fact the ACV helped the little break out I had.

Yes 6% is fine.

I saw significant results during my second week. Now, for those who often use BP it may take longer seeing your skin is use to the slow healing process, and that is what happens when using BP. So if you don't results within two weeks make the solution of water + ACV stronger or if you are brave enough use full strength atleast once a day. That should help.

There is so amount of times to use it. I generally use it 2x or 3x a day.

Anything Alkaline On You Skin Is Not Going To Help!!

Our skin's main function is to literally hold everything together, ie. keep our organs in a collective group. To do this effectively the skin needs to be strong, elastic and keep everything in, as well as keep things out. The things we want to keep out are excess moisture, viruses, bacteria, fungi, corrosive things, and keep our body at the correct temperature and moisture level.

The pores on our skin regulate the temperature and moisture levels, and the combination of oil and sweat glands (sebaceous and sudoriferous glands) on our skin keep it healthy and elastic. THE COMBINED EXCRETIONS OF OIL AND SWEAT FORM THE "ACID MANTLE" WHICH SURROUNDS OUR BODY AND HAS A pH OF 5.5.

The ACID MANTLE is our body's first defense mechanism against bacteria invading it. The slight acid conditions are disliked by bacteria. The acid mantle develops at puberty for our adult system.

When we are children we do not have an acid mantle, hence why children are more exposed to disease, viruses and fungal infections like ringworm, that adults do not tend to get. The mantle around a child is pH 7, which is neutral.

The change from a mantle of 7pH to a more protective ACID MANTLE happens at puberty when we start producing more hair on our bodies. Each hair follicle has at least one sebaceous or oil gland, which becomes active as the hair starts to grow and this changes the balance of oil and sweat on the skin. The hormones that control sweat also become active, hence the whole surface of the skin in a teenager is totally different to that of a child. The body is trying to create a safer, more protective environment. THE OIL ON OUR SKIN PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE!!!!

It is now that the problem of acne starts to occur, with the skin becoming clogged with oil and dead cells, forming small pimples and black heads. A teenager often feels that they are not clean so they tend to wash until the skin feels "squeaky" clean, stripping the skin of oil, and if using soap, altering the pH to alkaline conditions. This is opposite to what the body is trying to achieve, to protect the body, so it will naturally produce more oil, in order to correct the body to the "safest" condition which is a pH of 5.5. The continued cleansing of the skin with alkaline products like soap create a see-saw effect on the bodies hormonal system, which controls the amount of oil being produced. In order to correct an alkaline skin condition it will have to produce much more oil than a neutral or slightly acid condition.

This is why soap, urine (yea gross), body washes etc. Are no good, I was with them because we do need some form of detergent to clean ourselves of stink, dirt, grime etc. As far as conditioning your skin and improving it they certainly don't. That is why I recommended the ACV regimen so your skin won't work as hard and your skin cna achieve what it has been trying to achieve since puberty.

I guess starting out with straight ACV is not a good idea, it's really powerful stuff. Thanks for the replies, I'm sure it has a lot to do with not diluting the ACV in water. Always start out slowly when dealing with chemicals!

Hi there, First off, I've been a silent observer on this site for quite some time now, and have gotten some excellent tips. I'm a 31 year old female with some minor acne and alot of red damage. I've been the doctor route some say it's rosocea and some say it's just scarring and sun damage.

So far the thing that has worked the BEST has been ACV. I love the stuff it dries up my small pimples in a day or two and it's dramatically reducing the red marks. Not only do I apply a 50/50 acv mixture to my face as a toner but I also take acv capsules, because as you have read ACV does so much more for your body and overall health.

I did just wanted to make a suggestion on one thing, some of you said you have been drinking ACV whether mixed with water or just a couple of tablespoons. I caution you to be careful because ACV is very acidic and can do some major damage to your teeth. I think what they say is it can strip the enamble off your teeth. Just a small caution.

I also love the egg white- lemon mask, makes my skin very smooth and silky.

SmashingPumpkins, I notice you use "body essance" cleanser. Is this something you get at a regular store?

Body Essence is a Body Wash I found at CVS it is huge and inexpensive compared to other body washes. It was only like 4 dollars for 23 FL OZ.

I just bought a bottle and used it for the first time today. Do you guys use one cotton ball for your whole face? I used a single ball for about a third of my face, noticed some dead/dried up skin on the cotton ball, and threw it out. I thought that would be a good idea *shrugs*. I used about..3 or 4 cotton balls in total for one whole application on my face.
