THanks! Merry christmas!
I'm only 3 days done, but I can feel my lips/nostrils are less dry already. And my face skin feels slightly more moisturised, like my oils are slightly returning. Skin not shiny or physically noticeable yet though. My forehead spot that came a few days before finishing the course is still healing at the moment. Will keep you all updated
13 days without accutane today. It's flown by. So far so good.
That forehead spot I got before finishing the course is still there (wtf) but it's 90% healed now. Phew. I haven't had any other breakouts apart from after 4-5 days when 1 small red bump appeared on my forehead but disappeared almost immediately overnight. No other breakouts, which is amazing because over xmas I ate so much junk food. Anecdotally, in the past my skin would definitely seem to get oilier (and breakout more) when I ate badly, but this time it's had no effect.
My skin still feels desensitised - not irritated by anything (e.g. headphone wires, touching, etc.) before accutane. Also my skin is less dry, especially my lips and nose, but my skin is still on the dry side. I was expecting oils to come flooding back, but my skin has actually stayed stable. I actually hope it stays like this, to air on the side of slight dryness, rather than the other way around. Will have to see in 2-3 months I think.
I also went for a run today. First one in like 6 months. I feel unfit. It's gonna take several months to get back to where I used to be. But it was all worth it for accutane!
Happy New Year to everybody here!
3 weeks and 1 day off accutane. Derm apptmt Friday.
Skin still clear. But I noticed my cheek keloid got a bit bigger in last 2 months. Concerning, but all keloids get bigger over time from small irritations. Sucks. My excessive redness n flushing has improved, but still not optimal.
I'm still not happy with how dull/worn out my skin looks. I feel I look much older in person now. Hope it improves. And my eyes still have noticeably dark circles.
Also last Saturday I caught a brutal cold, possibly (Australian) flu. I haven't had it that bad in years. Every single joint in my body felt like the tendinitis Gods had come back to punish me, and I had goosebumps whilst sweating crazily. A little concerning as I had a fairly bad cold only less than a month ago. Hope my immune system hasn't been compromised? I used to only get 2 mild colds a year max.
Anyonegot any tips/product recommendations to make my skin look more vibrant, and for dark circles? Advice from girls would be useful too.
Also feeling really fatigued still and quite dizzy and nauseous on occasions. Missed a school day this week as really exhausted and very achey back and legs. Could it be withdrawal from the drug do you think? It's early days though I suppose.
Headaches too.
We don't have any follow up appointment. Finished 5 days ago.
I suppose it is a very powerful, systemic drug and as they say it takes up to 6 weeks to leave the system it could be the reason side effects are continuing.
I hope not a withdrawal. I don't think it's related. Just bad luck this time of year, lots of nasty colds and flus going around recently.
I wentto the bathroom in the dark at 7am this morning and fainted / fell in the bath tub. Really scary. Even scarier is I couldn't tell if it was a dream or not until my dad came up to ask what the loud noise was. I don't remember getting up from the bath tub to go back to bed, so when he woke me up (barely a minute later), it felt like I'd woken up from a few hours sleep.
there's no way I'm make tomorrow's appointment. Rescheduled for January 26th now. Might have to change it again though because I work on that day..
Very peculiar DW. Take extra care at moment. Also had a bit of a funny episode on the AstroTurf last week at break. Kind of hallucinating for a few moments. Thought had done something when hadn't. Still achey back and legs. Sore eyes too. Skin is looking good. Feeling very hungry and eating for England! Otherwise all is good. Symptoms are easing . My instincts are defo telling me these symptoms could be withdrawal. Stopped suddenly rather than spreading out final doses .Thank you vtr. Only 6 days since stopped accutane so early days.
Hey guess what? Sister has been ill in the night since 1am with dizziness , very high temperature, body aches. Thinking now the symptoms could be a virus. Didn't take temperature when was feeling so very odd. Time will tell. Lots of people have what they are calling "Australian flu" over here in England at mo my dad says. He has been ill for three weeks with it. Says putting massive strain on NHS. Non-serious ops have been cancelled due to the increasing pressure on hospital and lack of bedspace. Winter is such a bad time here for the NHS. Onward and upward guys!!!
Juwalker - yes I think I had Australian flu. I'm just about past the worst of it now. It was brutal though. If me at age 24 had to lie down a few days, fainted in the bath tub, felt like death, then I can't imagine how hard it will have hit older people. Hope your daughter/sister feels better asap.
Just slowly trying to eat more again. I went several days eating like 400 calories a day or less. Nowhere near enough. No surprise I fainted. I had low blood sugar symptoms. Plus, combine that with flu/fever, and I was in trouble. I've suddenly gone off loads of foods I liked. I associate them with this illness and they make me feel sick just thinking about them. My diet will have to change quite a bit, finding new stuff to eat.

I used to use a natural face wash + plain moisturiser. A couple of months into my accutane course, I started washing my face with water only (but still using moisturiser). I've kept that up since then, including 25 days after the course. So far so good

Thank you, makes sense, I would love to get to the stage where I can be minimalist about my skin. I have tried the caveman regimen before but with no luck.

Same. In the past my skin would've gone crazy with water only. Oily/breakouts etc. Now my skin's oil balances are good. At least so far. Hopefully the same in 6months!
Hey guys. I had another dermatologist appointment on Friday. It was pretty much just confirming my skin is still ok, which it is. They said I have to wait a few months after accutane before being allowed the keloid scar injections, so I'll be going back again in April to see my original derm consultant to see when/if I can get them!
Other than that, things are going really well. Coming up to 6 weeks off accutane and I'm still clear. I still have red marks and scars (obviously), but my oil levels are still stable (still on dry side, including my hair), and my red flushing (from cold wind and being embarrassed) has continued to improve a lot. My skin still isn't as radiant as I was hoping, but I think by summer it'll improve a lot. Just need time
Mentally, I feel so much better and more confident. It's weird having had bad acne for years and then realising like "oh, there's no need to feel insecure now"! Also, and maybe it's the drug leaving my system, but lately i feel less tired and less brain fog. Better mental clarity. I'm still getting late nights though lol. That needs to improve
Almost 8 weeks off the course now. So far so good No signs of my oils coming back yet
Looking good! I think we forget sometimes that nobody's scrutinizing our skin quite as closely as we do in the mirror. In terms of dark circles, you could always try some light concealer under the eyes? In terms of skin vibrancy .... hmm ... what moisturizer do you use again?
It's strange that you mention you fainted. My first gym session, about two weeks after finishing accutane, I got REALLY lightheaded. I didn't faint, but I thought I might. I'm fine at the gym now, but perhaps another adjustment effect?
I'm sticking with the same routine I was on while using accutane - Cetaphil facewash and lukewarm water morning and night. I've switched to a slightly lighter moisturiser during the day, but still using Cetaphil at night.
