No post in a while because my computer and phone broke at the same time!
My redness and smoothness has continued to improve, but I had 3 spots break out on my forehead that have taken 2 weeks to go. 1's gone, but 2 are still left. Inactive, but they look worse than they are. Once they're gone I'll be fully clear
I feel like that was the final breakout. In general my skin feels so calm and is no longer sensitive. My sides/neck/cheeks would breakout from almost anything in the past, but now I can touch them and they don't feel irritated etc. My back acne was never that bad, but the skin used to feel sensitive/irritated and break out from clothes rubbing etc, but now it feels calm. I'd say the biggest change over the last month or so is how calm my skin feels
That's awesome! I'm so happy for you! I've also found that my facial redness has improved recently. I still flush easily, but the redness doesn't last so long. In general, my skin just feels calmer, just like you said. It's even less sensitive. So excited about this final month. Also, having clear skin for Christmas will be the best present ever!!

Exactly. I said to my derm all I want for Christmas is clear skin, and she laughed. Is it crazy that that's all we want!
I just hope the effects are permanent and effective, at least for a few years if not forever. If my skin goes back to how it was I don't know how I'd cope.
Update: My forehead breakout has cleared up. Red marks where the spots were. Now it's just redness/scarring. Skin is really calm and massively less sensitive. I pray that that's the last of my breakouts. My 6th sense says it was the last one. Hard to explain, just one of things feelings based on how calm it feels
Outdoor lighting pics tomorrow
Also I was brushing my teeth

You look amazing! thanks so much for posting this. Ive been on accutane for 3 weeks now only 10mg and I've become so discouraged I know its so early and such a low dosage but hopefully next week at my appointment I can ask for a higher dosage. She wants me on 10mg for a year but I really want to speed up the process. Seeing your pictures reminded me theres still hope. Im so happy for you, and you for sure will have perfect skin for Christmas. xx

Don't give up! The first few weeks suck, and the weeks after that are ups and downs, but then things seem to stabilise. I've heard that low doses can have the same long term effect, so don't worry. Try to increase though if you want. Have you experienced any side effects, initial breakouts yet? Best of luck to you. Stay in touch if you want

I think so, I can't tell because it seemed my acne was getting worse before I even started but I never really got many cystic acne since starting accutane I keep getting them, but they go away quickly. It seems my acne goes away fast but just keeps going, especially in the same spots. But as of today my face is the worst its ever been so I really hope it is the IB. My lips aren't that dry either is my face, it isn't oily at all though. I would love to stay in touch, thanks again!
Recent weeks: my nostrils got really dry. Other side effects the same.
I had my appointment earlier. Just confirming that I'll be coming off accutane once I'm done with the pills (~Dec 19th). She said my skin has improved loads, even from the last time I saw her (after the initial breakout had mostly cleared up). I'm not 100% satisfied though because I still have redness/scars and feel like my skin's quality is low and not as vibrant as it could be. Hopefully that's just from accutane and it'll improve thereafter.
Anyway, I have to go back in ~6 weeks on Jan 12th to see of my skin is still OK. She said there's a chance of a breakout when stopping, but if it happens it should clear up and then I should be good. In that case, hopefully it isn't bad! Then after that appointment I'll be allowed to make another one with my original consultant to try the cortisone injection for my keloid scars.
It's surreal that I started on July 12th. That's so long ago, but it flew by!
Looking good!! You must be over the moon!!!
Did u have any bacne? Finish on Jan 3rd but bacne still there at mo. Saw a nurse last visit. She said bacne may not go. Disappointed re that. Improved and no cystsbut still bumps, spots and black heads. Hoping last 28 days will make a difference. What cumulative dose haVe you had?Great result !!! Really happy for you.

Yes in July they said it was quite active (I never see it unless checking mirror, so I didn't realise it was fairly bad). In October it had improved loads, but my derm said I still had a bit. Today she said it had cleared up loads. i had a few small bumps, but overall it's very good! Used to be inflamed and look like acne, now it's calm/smooth apart from the odd bump, in a more "normal" way.
In terms of cumulative dose, I need to calculate that... I had 40mg/day for 56 days supply, then 75mg for 56 days supply, then the same again. 56*(40+75+75) = 10,640mg total. I weigh 75kg, so that's ~141mg/kg total, almost the upper limit of 150mg/kg...
How's your daughter's facial acne? Improved a lot? Good luck for final month!
Thanks for that. Facial acne is much better. Still some stabbing over and a few spots but massively smoother and calmer. Flushing and facial redness at times but that's normal while on accutane. Much happier in herself. More confident and chatty which is wonderful! Very tired and needing more sleep. Focus and concentration is affected at mo I think. Probably cos last month and it is building in terms of cumulative dose. Did you have any focus/ concentration/ tiredness issues?
Won't swim or wear a costume tho cos of bacne. Hope it improves like yours did. Fingers crossed. Keep posting if you have time cos would be great to hear how you get on post accutane. I will too.

My focus/concentration definitely isn't as good. I'm glad I'm not at university anymore, because studying / exams would be so difficult. I feel like I need more sleep too, although I've been getting really late nights so it might just be that.
Don't worry, I'll be posting months after I finish as well!
I'm currently on week 6 and my skin keeps clearing and breaking out. Your progress looks soo good and I can't wait for these next few months to be over!! Thanks so much for sharing!

That's fine, my skin was breaking out and clearing during that time as well. After about the 3 month point was when I stopped breaking out
My redness definitely imrpoved the last few weeks. Can't believe it!
But to be honest I'm looking forward to finishing the course. Side effects feel strong lately. Nose/nostrils very dry (had nosebleed when woke up other day), eyes have darker circles/tired (could be late nights, but thinner skin from accutane makes the dark circles appear more), lips dry and cracked on both corners now (vaseline useful but corners still sore). occasional joint ache, definitely not optimal focus/concentration. Just tired in general. I caught a cold as well, so feel really rough the last 2 days
Just 13 days of pillsleft now!
This is so exciting!! Less than two weeks to go. I have about three weeks remaining I think. I'm super nervous about breaking out again, but I'm also excited about my skin starting to turn-over again so that the red marks can fade. Do you have any maintenance treatments planned for afterwards, like topical retinol?

So exciting for sure! I have 8 days left now!
As for after accutane, I've taken a minimalist approach and have been washing my face with only water for ~3 months now, and less frequently (still using moisturiser). I'm thinking (hopefully not naively) that I'll be ok to continue like that afterwards. I feel like my skin has adapted to this way of life
It'll be interesting to see if my skin becomes oily again, and whether or not I'll notice/feel the oiliness coming back. I really hope it doesn't come back. Looking back at old pics of my shiny skin makes me realise how oily my skin actually was. No surprise I had acne
I really hope I don't break out again. My derm warned me I might have an initial breakout when stopping the treatment, but that should be a one-off and then i should stay clear afterwards. If that happens, it'll still concern me a little bit
If I do break out again, I think my derm said she'll prescribe me some topical. I forgot the name she mentioned. My next appointment is on 12th January which is only 23 days after I finish the course. I don't know if that's long enough time to know if stopping the course is a success or not
Bad attempts at some back pictures. If only I had before pictures to compare with
In the first picture the spot behind my shoulder blade is a keloid scar
Amazing! So it does work on bacne!!! Thanks for that. If not improved will ask to see the derm again. We are with a nurse at mo. I expect it's for cost and staff shortage reasons. Have had to chase every appointment. The derm clinic is absolutely heaving, there are so many people with skin problems that they are struggling to cope. Enjoy!! You look better in every picture. So exciting!! Good luck for Jan 12th.

Thanks!! I wish I had before pictures. I think my bacne was much worse than I thought it was
I think the NHS is really stretched on budget at the moment. The reception at my place is only open like 3 hours 3 days per week and closed the rest of the week. Crazy times, but still decent I guess
6 hours ago, Juwalker said:They say you can still break out even after the course but not severely and heals quick. Great photo! You are looking like a new man. You look like you lost weight facially. Have you lost weight? My daughter's appetite has reduced defo.
I read somewhere that accutane makes your skinner tighter/thinner. In August I noticed a bit, and my friend thought so too. My face was more round last year, then became more defined around my cheek/jaw. Crazy though. I just checked the older pictures and I can see it. Myface looked puffier/fatter/baby'ish!
Or I could've lost weight. I need to weigh myself. Weird though, because before accutane I used to run several times per week (thousands of extra calories burnt), but for the last 5 months I've been completly inactive. My appetite has gone down, but up as well. I used to have 2 big meals a day (plus snacks), but went down to 1 a couple of months ago. But I've been eating way more junk food/snacks lately, and craving lots of bad stuff

Can you share any post accutane adverse side effects you might have experienced.
