I've been using the OCM since mid August and have never had any problems with it, but I've also never experienced the deep purging everyone on here keeps talking about. For the first few weeks, I actually used cheap Canola cooking oil along with Castor oil, and even that didn't break me out. Since, I've been using EVOO. I actually just like the OCM because if keeps my skin from drying out. I used Accutane TWICE and my skin hasn't been the same since. My derm actually wants be to go through a third cycle of accutane, but I'm not willing to do it again.
For those thinking about using OCM, I wouldn't consider it a miracle cure for acne. However, I personally like it because it doesn't irritate my skin, which can be an issue if you're using a harsh topical like BP. But I guess if you have really oily skin, it might not be the best idea. It's not right for everyone.
Now here's my question. Has anyone ever had an allergic reaction to grape seed oil?
I bought a bottle, thinking it would make my oil cleansing that much better. I haven't used it yet as part of my oil mixture I use for cleansing, but I did try it out as a moisturizer and at first I didn't notice much of a difference. Then all of a sudden I got this nasty rash along my jaw and under my eye, no acne, just red itchy bumps. So I decided to try a skin test on the underside of my forearm and there was no reaction. Now I'm wondering if it's the grape seed oil or something else. Has anyone else had a bad reaction to grape seed oil?
I've done OCM religiously for a full two-month period. During the first two weeks, my skin was golden. My complexion was more even and I had a glow. People even noticed and much better, complimented me about it, which hasn't happened before. I was happy for those two weeks but all of a sudden, I started having small bumps on my skin and eventually the pimples became bigger and bigger and I broke out badly last week. The skin without zits still has a glow but my face is a wreck. I talked myself to wait it out and let OCM work but it just got worse and worse. I stopped OCM last night and I think I'll let my face rest and recuperate for a while.
My suggestions for people doing it is to not overdo it.
1. Don't do it everyday. every 3-4 days maybe.
2. Don't scrub too vigorously, you'll end up irritating your skin.
3. Don't use very, very hot water. It also irritates the skin. Water that's a little hotter than lukewarm water is fine. The oil is going to wash off, just be patient.
I'll probably do OCM again after I've cleared my skin but not as hardcore as before. Reading all of the comments in this thread. I've seen a very similar story to mine. OCM will work at first and then people will breakout.

Hi! New here! Am 27 years old and tired of breaking out like a 15 year old. I was looking at reviews for this and it's really mixed. I have moderate acne (mostly cysts like- not really "pimples" with pus, just large painful bumps) and I am trying to use natural products because I would like to have children. Hence- why I stopped taking Solodyn, which made my acne worse!
Anyhoot- just wondering if THIS SPECIFIC regimen has worked for people on here. Unfortunately, it's only reviewed by 8 people, so I am still undecided. ( Any and all info would help. Thanks!

OCM hasn't cleared up my acne, and I've never talked to anyone with acne who's managed to get completely clear with OCM alone. It's meant to be a cleanser only, and you'll still need to find an acne medication to use with it that works for you. The main benefit of OCM is that if you do it correctly it won't irritate or dry out your skin like some other cleansers can. The trouble is that finding what's "correct" for you can take some trial and error, and the blend that one person swear by might not work at all for someone else, and may even give them a breakout. My skin is combination-leaning-towards-dry, but the "dry skin" blend that Barnabas suggests (25% castor to 75% "other" oil) seemed to be making my acne worse. I started using much less castor oil (10%), substituted a mix of jojoba and grapeseed oil for the olive oil. I also found out that getting the washcloth warm enough to steam off the oil was too hot for my skin, so I now use lukewarm water and then wipe off any remaining oil with some ACV toner.
Anyone?
Well, it's my third night of oil cleansing. I used the Castor/Grapeseed combo. So far so good. My flakes are gone and my skin feels soft and looks bright.
Woke up with a angry red pimple this morning. Bombed it with BP. By the time I cleansed my face this evening it was much, much smaller. I'm going to sleep with some Proactiv mask on it tonight. Don't know if the oil cleansing had anything to do with it, since I often wake up with angry pimples on my face.
The signs of my picking rampage don't look terrible. The small holes are already closed and the large ones look like they will heal. Crossing fingers.
Nose is still covered in blackheads -- but it doesn't look worse.
Is anyone else still doing the OCM? I'd love to hear about it!
It may just be your skin clearing up.. Like the dirt is making it's way up through the skin?? Or maybe you're not rinsing the oil off thoroughly enough. I'm not sure. I think it's too soon to quit using it altogether.. Especially if it isn't worse. Most of the time it'll get worse before it gets better.
Hi. I have tried the oil cleansing route. I do notice anything with mineral oil will tend to aggravate my skin further. Also you have be careful what type of oil grade is in the ingredient, which is also difficult. If you want to use oil cleansing try plant based as olive oil is too thick, sunflower or grapeseed oil works.
So now I just use a much more effective way to cleanse,.known as double cleanse. For double cleanse I use-cleansing lotion/cleansing milk then wipe off with tissue and the use a foam cleanser (particularly mousse whip form). Make sure your foam cleanser does not contain SLS or SLES. Oil cleansing is not really the most effective for everyday cleansing (unless ur a geisha or u like to put on tons of makeup). It will dehydrate your skin further.
i started this with just jojoba oil and it really did start to clear out my pores i just rubbed it on than steamed with the cloth and wiped it off than moisturised and everything was great. Now a week later my skin is so broken out like open wounds all over my chin and lip i was only doing it once a day but i think thats too much now my face feels super dry and gross. Im going to do this maybe once a week after my face clears and see how it goes.
I have been using OCM for 2 years now and i still think it's the best natural thing i ever used for my face! The first 3 months of using OCM i had major breakouts, my entire face was covered in spots but i stuck through it and now it's a regular thing for me to use.
WHY? It's because after using OCM for so long, it has cleared out my blackheads, unclogged my pores, and now my skin can finally breath again. I don't even get breakouts anymore from using OCM, what is does for me is helping me reduce redness, pores, and heal my scars quicker. For me, i use Olive oil (60%), castor oil(20%), neem oil (15%), couple of drops (5%) of tea tree oil, myrrh, bog myrtle, clove bud, and lavender. I use OCM maybe once or twice a week or whenever i feel like my skin is feeling dull or dry.
After a quick check of the two drugstores nearest me, I found only one Tea Tree Oil product.
Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Oil.
Considering that it's the only kind of tea tree oil distributed in major drugstores, why aren't there more acne.org reviews on it?
I did a little background check, and the ingredients seem to be okay.
Full list of Ingredients: Soybean Oil , Tea Tree Oil , Safflower Oil , Vitamin E , Carrot Extract , Aloe Vera Extract , Rose Hips Oil , Peanut Oil , Sweet Almond Oil , Methylparaben , Isopropylparaben , Isobutylparaben , Butylparaben , Fragrance , D&C Red No. 17 , D&C Yellow No. 11
Soybean Oil is a good source of Vitamin E, which is supposed to clear up scars; Aloe Vera obviously helps with redness and healing, and Peanut Oil is (believe it or not) an ingredient in Accutane.
Sounds promising, no?
Think about it before all these products came about what was being used? All naural products. Look on any label and it will normally say derived from some type of all natural product. Now, also incorporate your diet. Dont try to get great skin scheme without doing EVERYTHING. Drink adequate amounts of water, eat healthy and keep your hand out of your face. Remember you were not born with acne, scars, blemishes none of those things. So its something you need to work out..
Calm down and just relax, the carrier oil is the most importnat one. It is going to get down in the pores and get the nasty stuff out and the essential oil is going to mositurize it. The amounts will vary according to the person thats why you have to play with it and whatever works for you then use that. I use 40% castor oil and 60% grapeseed oil, I also steam my face by boiling water, placing a towel over my head and steam for 3-5 mins. Am I wrong "NO" this works for me and my skin is gorgeous. You have to always remeber what works for you make not work for the next. You have to play with it. For instance when I was in Iraq I used Vitamin A and Evening Primrose, steamed the same way and I had outstanding skin then as well. THIS FORUM IS TO HELP NOT HURT, if the percentages you use are different so be it and if it works that even better.
I just started doing OCM, using EVOO because its cheap and I love the smell. So far so good, its only been a few days and I have no major changes, but no serious new clogged pores or pimples either. I just bought jojoba oil to use as a follow-up moisturizer, because I notice the oil cleansing cleans my skin SO well that it gets pretty dry after. I was wondering how people think the oil is for wrinkles? I'm sure it will help with my acne, but wondering about the little lines that have started forming on my face and under my eyes. I also have been experimenting with baking soda - I LOVE mixing baking soda and olive oil together to make a nourishing scrub, and will rub it gently on my face and use it in a similar way to the OCM, which I do enjoy. I also have tried using just baking soda and water as a light scrub before I do the oil cleansing method which I like for exfoliating. Has anyone tried this? I'm also wondering if I need a toner afterward (apple cider vinegar?) to balance the PH? or does the olive oil have a close enough PH that I don't need to? The less I have to do, the better for me!
I tried this a year ago when I had mostly clear skin but lots of ugly patches of blackheads, followed it exactly, and it made me break out a lot worse than if I just literally did nothing at all so I quit. If it works for some people I'm glad but any kind of steaming or oil cleansing makes my skin a million times worse.
I'm usually a lurker here but registered to chime in.
I have been using the OCM for 4 months now, maybe a bit longer.
I have Keratosis Pilaris and I pick. Bad I know. Anyway.... I've been using the ocm on my face, back, and arms. It started out well, like most people, for a few weeks or so... then it got BAD. Cystic acne all over the place. I've never had that before. It sucked.... BUT... I stuck it out. My skin cleared up after about a month of that. Now it's pretty darn awesome. My arms are almost completely clear (amazing to me), as are my back and face. It cleared the KP up drastically and I haven't gotten any breakouts. My skin still isn't perfect, but definitely better than before OCM. It might BE completely clear if I would keep my paws off my skin, but that's another issue.
I use 50% sunflower oil and 50% castor. I moisturize with straight jojoba oil.
If you want to REALLY get the benefits of ocm, be prepared to tough out the crappy part for a while. It gets better.
bump..i wanna see/hear from more people that have used or will use this method. I'm afraid to use this regimen because i'm just finishing accutane and I have a pretty good regimen going on for me right now so dont wanna try something new yet. Honestly I feel this OCM may really work.
Hi, I'm on this OCM for a month now and I seldom use EVOO just plain CO.
1. I noticed that my skin became less oily (which means I don't have to blot everytime), and
2. my pores are less visible or in most cases I notice right after my OCM, my pores particularly in my nose and cheeks are closed.
3. it's a very nice make-up removal especially for the waterproof mascaras.
4. skin is smooth and not greasy/oily despite of the fact that I have been cleansing my face with "oil".
5. my forehead used to be darker than my cheeks especially 4-6 hours after my bath (that's because of the oil sunbathing on my forehead), but after a week of the OCM, I noticed that my skin color has started to balance out.
6. my skin on my face became lighter, or clearer.
7. I have one breakout at a time (I'm not sure if EVOO got stuck in my pores that triggered it), but I think CO helps it lighten the scar; it also helps it dry faster.
8. my lashes became thicker and longer.
I hope this helps you decide.

I forgot to add this:
My lines under my eyes was lessened too. I have applied different expensive eye cream and none of them gave the result that the OCM/CO gave me for just 2 weeks.
my suggestion is;
1. don't rub the towel against your skin. I just realized just a week ago that rubbing (becoming an OC), doesn't help.
2. just pat gently the towel or whatever you're using to remove the oil. If you're not happy with the first wash, you can always do it again, just pat, never rub.
3. I haven't tried putting EVOO as a moisturizer, but so far OLAY haven't worsen my skin yet. You can always put moisturizer on certain parts where its needed (side of the nose, cheeks) or if you want all over your face.
You now your skin better. You must be observant and not exaggerated to keep going on. anyway, I haven't experienced that for just one night of use of trial and error OCM, may face the next morning is swarmig with acne. lol. It takes time for those zit to build up. if after a couple of try and everything worsen, just stop and think about where you could have done wrong.
besides you have this org to help you with your concerns.
Good luck!
Hi, I would love some help with the OCM. I have been doing it for a couple of days and get red puss filled zits daily that are painful! Is this normal? I see that it has greatly improved small hard white zits that cover my cheeks and chin. I use Castor oil only, my skin is usually very oily but doing the OCM balances my skin and feels great. It just looks terrible with the red puss filled zits. Someone please help! Thanks (o:
i tried the OIl cleansing method yesterday.. I have DRY, acne prone skin.. that i developed after the birth of my child.
I did the Castor oil, jojoba and tea tree oil and My skin loved it.. this aM i woke up with glowing skin.
Im in love.. my question is how long does it last? i put mine in the refrigerator, does it have an expiration date.
