i thought i would post this, a quote taken from the site malia posted in another thread.. i guess this could explain why some people have trouble on this at first.
Start or Switch Acne Products Conservatively: Approximately 15% of the people beginning the use of acne products or changing products develop an initial flair-up that lasts for several days. When beginning acne products for the first time, begin slowly with only the cleanser initially. In a few days add another product and so on to gradually allow the skin to respond. When changing products, switch to one item at a time in a similar manner.
Thanks! I tried using less of the washes but leaving them on for three minutes each. It seemed fine. My skin doesn't dry out at all from the products. In fact, it's sometimes oily by night, but not nearly as when I use nothing. My face is oily by nature, which has always been part of my problem.
Thanks, Botchla, for posting this. It seems to be a good regimen for those with not so sensitive skin. I tried Dan's regimen before this. It worked well with an old 3% BP prescription gel I had, but once it ran out and I had to go to the Neutrogena cream, I couldn't take the redness and dryness, basically ran out of the cream in a week, and decided to try this instead.
Right now I'm just trying to get rid of the little pimples that have shrunk but just aren't gone yet. And of course, the tons of red marks that are so annoying. But I'm very happy with my progress and I'm hoping my face stays this way! It's still very early, but like I said, I'm optimistic.
Hey guys, I have been reading up on this thread and decided to start this regimen about three days ago...a li9ttle background info, I have had mild-moderate PERSISTENT acne for the past 4 years and nothing else I have used has worked...I am doing this regimen with one slight modification, instead of the C+C 10% BP wash, I use the neutrogena clear pore 3.5% BP wash...I use the blackhead clearing scrub 2x a day, and the BP cleanser once @ night...I put about a dime size in my wet palms, and GENTLY massage my face for 30 seconds with each cleanser...suprisingly, so far I have yet to experience any redness/dryness, and a side from a few zits, I have not had the dreaded initial breakout...obviously as I've only done this for 3 days, I have yet to see any substantial results, and don't want to post b4 I am absolutely clear for least a week...how long do u think it will take a person of my skin type to see results Blotcha or n e else? Should I leave the cleansers on my face after the initial 30 seconds massage period? Thanks.
i used the neutrogena clear pore wash (3.5%) and it didn't work for me. i still broke out.. even after using it for a long period. in fact, after using it for about 4 weeks, it just got even worse.
the difference between that one and the C&C is the C&C one is supposed to leave some BP behind, whereas the other neutrogena one it just washes off. i can tell a huge difference between the two products. in fact, i hate neutrogena completely.
i'm assuming you're not going for the 10% cause you're worried about drying. maybe try your way for a month and see how it goes. if you're still having some breakouts, i would blame the neutrogena wash. at that point, your skin will be pretty used to the regimen, and you should be able to switch to the 10% without many problems.
i saw my skin begin clearing within 2 weeks. pretty fast. the first thing i noticed was that i wasn't getting any new ones coming up. like you said, if your acne is persistent and you're constantly getting new ones every day or every other day or whatever.. you will notice you're not getting new ones, or maybe getting less new ones that usual.
anyways though.. i can only put my seal of approval on the exact regimen i use, cause i know exactly these two products together work. some people have used a different SA wash like the neutrogena oil free acne wash and found it didn't help much.
I've been using the two C&C products for about 5 days now. I'm still breaking out but it's really nothing out of the ordinary and it's not too bad. Right now I have to figure out how to get it right for my skin type. At first there was no dryness, but now there is some. I've been cutting down on the amount of cleanser and time I leave it on, 30-45 seconds goes by faster than I realize when I'm scrubbing. I really don't want to use a moisturizer. I also need to space out my cleansings to about 12 hours apart. My schedule has been off and I'll wash at like 1 in the morning and then have to shower before work at 9am. I think I'm gonna do the tape method instead of a moisturizer for now. If anyone has had this same issue and found a solution I'd like to read it. All in all I like this regimen so far.
Hey botchla ... i was wondering i just got off accutane a month ago. So i dont wanna use anything harsh on my skin atm. I just had 2 whitheads pop up a few days back on my nose so i got really scared and though about using some OTC stuff again. Now those 2 pimples went away on thier own ... and right now i dont even have one pimple on my face. Thank God.
What i wanted to know was wether i can only use the C & C thing with the SA in it? cuz i dont wanna use BP ... i dont really break out much right now ... maybe cuz accutane`s still workin or maybe im cured ( hopefully ) but i just wanna keep on the safe side without putting BP on my skin.
I`d like ur suggestion on this.
And good work btw. If i start breaking out ( God forbid ) i`ll go to ur regimen first thing.
CheerS!
yes, i'd be very careful of what you use just coming off of accutane. maybe the two that you had come up were just a fluke or something? i dunno.. i wouldn't start using a product unless it became a routine thing again. personally, i don't think the SA wash is drying or irritating at all. that is just my opinion though.. the BP wash is much harsher, so you're right, you'd wanna stay away from that.
maybe some of the others can have some suggestions for you..
I have another tube of Clean and Clear at home and I think it is called Daily Pore Cleanser, I will have to go home and look, but it is really really good too. I don't think it has SA or BP, but it does have little grains, almost just like the proactive cleanser. It is really good stuff. I will go home tonight and make sure I got the name right. I would use that and I agree with botchla that it might just be a fluke, so don't freak out.
I just went out and bought the 3 products ( Including the shine free moisturizer ( My other one made my face shiny hehe ) ).
My impressions as I used the products.
: That blackhead wash was very cool looking lol those blue beads and everything it definitly looked good, and felt good.
: After rinsing off the BP wash I could feel the cool tingle on my face and feel it working!!! It feels good
Ill keep u guys updated Thx for posting this regime and gl to everyone
Wow. I've been using this stuff for a while now. I remember when the thread was only 4 pages long, and I thought that such a response was convincing enough for me to try the products. I was just using them silently # . At the time, I was too depressed to go out into public, but I did anyway just to get the two C&C products you suggested. I've been using them up to this day and have still had a few breakouts but, I'm fairly impressed with what I see. I went straight from Minocyclin to these products because I really don't want to be relying on stupid drugs. I wish I were normal like all of the other beautiful faces out there (where all they gotta do is throw water on their face twice a day and they stay clear). But, I am cursed with heredity and acne too. Regardless, I'm happy with the products even though there is sometimes a little drying and I've bought the shine-free stuff to use if needed. I have occasional cystic acne, and that is the worst. But, even those aren't as horrible as they used to be. My hope is that my skin will get more used to the BP and reject all of the evil acne bacterias. A quick question that I've had is this: Is there any particular benefit to using them in the order you presented, Botchla? Is the reason for doing BP last to retain some of the BP on your face when you wash it off? That's all. Thanks for the post. It's good to know there are conversations like this going around online.
and...... I just want to use this cuz no one else does: ({|=
hey viejo.. glad to hear you're at least having some success with the regimen. the reason for the order of using the products is for two reasons really. the first reason is that salicylic acid removes oil and dead skin from the surface and inside of the pores. essentially, this is cleaning the skin and pores so that the BP wash can penetrate better and be more effective. and also what you said, so some BP remains behind after you wash it off.
how long ago did you quit the antibiotics? it is pretty common for breakouts to come back (sometimes with a vengence) after you stop an antibiotic. this of course settles down in time.. but if you have just stopped recently, your current breakouts may be from that. i suggest just keep using the products and see if it improves even more with time. good luck!
Botchla hey I have a question also, I started the regime last night and woke up this morning and continued it. My skin feels good and everything and I can tell its working but my acne that was hidden just came to the surface ( the initial breakout) how long before those will be treated and I began to see clearer skin? thx
oh my god. i shouldn't have told all you guys and girls about my regimen! let me explain. i ran out of blackhead clearing scrub, so i went to FOUR, count them 1 2 3 4 different places, all SOLD OUT of the stuff! what the hell, man! i finally found it in one grocery store that charges outrageous prices for their goods. so i got in line, and there was this lady in front of me bitching that the lady didn't scan her super saver card. her discount was 8 cents. she was going to get her 8 cents no matter what. she actually got the manager over there, who had to redo the cash register, open the drawer, and get her money out. all while there is a line behind her waiting. all over *8 cents*. if i had a dime i would have given it to her and just be like ok just leave please. there. two extra cents for you. don't spend it all in one place, heffer.
and they keep changing the design of the stuff. i have gotten 3 different versions of the stuff the past 3 times. one has a squared end, the other has a rounded end, then a third one has a different cap/spout thing.
steelers: i honestly can't remember cause it's been so long since i started this.. maybe some of the others who just started could give you some info. sorry.
ok...so I have been on this regimine for almost a week now and no new really big pimples, but I 'm still getting the small ones above my lip, or below my chin...I am hoping this will subside...I do the mandelic acid in the morning under my makeup after I do the SA wash...I still only do that in the morning...but I think I will start doing the BP in the morning too...
Botchla...do you do the BP twice or only once?
I cant find Clean & Clear Continuous Control in UK either. I dont think its available here. Just like everything people have found to be effective in US. grr.
There are a few clean and clear washes in the UK, one contains salicylic so use that and you can buy other types of 10% BP wash. Thats what i've been doing and it's working great so far.
hey several people have mentioned the C&C moisturizer.. the one that supposedly doesn't make you all shiny and oily feeling and stuff?
does it make you break out? or has it made anyone break out? cause i don't want to buy it and find out it does. i have spent way too much money on crappy moisturizers that do nothing but make me shiny and break me out! also can you tell me what the exact name is? cause i see two of them on the www.cleanandclear.com site, and i'm not sure if it's one of those two. thanks.
winter air is starting to get to my skin. everything is so dry. including my skin now. not horribly, but you can start to see some small flakes of skin.
See, it might have been the mandelic acid doing it to my skin...I'm back to using the 10% glycolic acid in Alpha Hydroxy....leaving it on for 4 minutes in the morning and then washing it off...I should have never moved away from that stuff...it really did wonders for my skin texture.
So..here is my regimine:
wash with C&C SA at night then
wash with C&C BP
use clearisil as needed on active ones
wash with C&C SA in the morning
wash with C&C BP
apply 10%GA gel for 4 minutes
wash off with warm water...then apply moisturizer and makeup.
Wow...I hope this is going to work.
I've been doing the regimen for a week now. My skin feels nice, and pimples seem to heal faster, but the past couple days I've started to break out where I use the regimen.
They're tiny whiteheads, and I normally never got so many at once. After an hour or two when my skin is completely dry from the wash, they seem to fade in and they're a lot harder to see. But when I get my face wet again, you can see them.
Some people mentioned "bringing it to the surface." So I assume that once everything is brought to the surface and removed, then I'll start being clear?
I think I'll keep using the regimen until December. If I keep getting these tiny whiteheads from it, I'll probably stop. I sure do like the way my skins feels though!

I use the Clean and Clear Dual Action moisturizer with SA. That stuff is great. It does not make me oily at all.
