so I have been doing this for a week now and my skin is dry with teeny tiny bumps all over it? Is this a reaction to this...has anyone else experienced this? does it go away with time or should i stop using these products together? I use both washes morn/night. I broke down and scrubbed my face with a washcloth it itched so badly....
not in this high a concentration......my skin is so dry now...the itching is unbelievable. I am hoping it will get used to the combo and move on. Maybe I need more moisturizer. I don't use one at night so I'll start with that. I was using dan's regimen and it had the same affect.
you guys should work your way up to both washes twice a day.
i do that and i dont have any dry skin right now.
it took about a month to train my skin, though (with other SA and BP products).
i could probably even go withouth a moisturizer, but my skin is a little tight and just a tinyy bit flakey on my cheeks. a little olay complete spf 15 gets rid of everything.
i actually wash for a longggg time with each wash. the SA i just keep rubbing probably until it turns drier (about 2 min) and with the BP i just rub until im satisfied (probably 2 minutes too; i dont it really matters how long you rub when it comes to dryness; either it dries or it doesnt).
another recommendation. WASH WITH THIS SHIT WHEN YOURE IN THE SHOWER! seriously, the BP wash is deadly for your eyes. you THINK youve washed it off, but you havent when youre over the sink. if it gets in your eyes, prepare for 15 minutes of crying hell. ive been taking two showers a since i started on saturday. helps with my bacne too.
current status: 0 active pimples, 4 "underground" dead pimples. one blackhead on nose. a lot of those microbumps (TINY whiteheads that have hard yellow things in them) have come out greatly in nose area.
Thanks zzzboy...i figured out I have to use a moisturizer at night after i wash. I am still a bit dry but I can't give up quite yet. I am still breaking out a bit but it's only been a little over a week. I haven't been leaving the washes on for more them about 15 seconds so far but hopefully I can work up to that.
i started this regimen last night. i was currently on dan's regimen, but my face is just too red and really really flakey from it. and the flakiness is worse than my acne, i think. my acne right now is probably moderate. and after using it for just one night, 10 new pimples popped up this morning. but i think the regimen was just bringing them to a head (i hope). I'm doing exactly what botchla said. and i'll let you all know how my progression goes.
dan's regimen is just gross. might work for some people, but im totally against having anything except a moisturizer on your face during the day. theres just so many things that happen to your face (water, exercise, oil, wiping, etc) that will interfere with the cream during the day that its just illogical to use it then. not to mention BP makes ur face feel like CRAP, i cant imagine having that stuff on all day.
so anyways, status is still the same. 4-5 dying pimples, some smaller whiteheads around randomly (dont really count them as pimples).
one thing i might add that is negative about this regimen is that pimples do INDEED heal slower as ive noticed. oh well, hopefully everything goes well.
yea and another thing, the little blue beads sometimes actually get stuck inside whiteheads. i thought they were little scabs at first but upon super close inspection, they were beads. watch out for them and just gently scratch them out if you have any.
This has been my experience with scrubs. The beads can get in the pore and create problems.

Can baking soda get stuck under pores?
I know you said your face doesn't get dry, but if I want to try this, I have a feeling my skin will definitely dry up because of the salicylic acid/benzoyl peroxide combination. Do you know of any moisturizers that works well in tandem with your Clean and Clear regimen?

Okay, I've noticed that this thread has been around for ... gheesh many years now, but I myself am pretty new to this website. I have lurked without posting for months. The other day I came across this thread and spent a large chunk of my night reading post after post. I decided to give it a try ( I think it's been a week) and I wanted to start logging my results.
First I want to say that... I am a REAL sufferer of acne, and what I mean by that is that I don't just have 5 or 6 pimples on my face and come on here crying about how bad my skin is. I'm 26 years old and have had acne since I was about 11 or 12. I have tried numerous treatments: every kind of over the product topical treatment known to man, clean and clear advantage kit, proactive, facials (glycolic acid), I've been to the doc for 2 microderms, I spent over a THOUSAND dollars on Blue-U light treatments (with the help of my parents), and NOTHING has helped. As I have gotten older it has gotten worse. I am a constant sufferer of cycstic acne. Recently i have been getting acne all along my jaw line and on my neck. I have VERY oily skin and hundreds of blackheads on my nose, chin, and forehead.
but with all of that said I REFUSE to try accutane. I just won't do it. I have decided to give this a try, dont ask me why I think this will work but I'm sure you all can understand that I'm just praying that THIS time something will work. I will keep you updated on my progress. As of right now I have broken out more so on my lower cheeks and neck. I'm sure it's the IB period but we'll see.
Wish me luck
so i'm on my second week of bothla's regimen. the acne on my cheeks have gotten maybe 10% better, but i broke out on my forehead (it's gone now, though). i have not gotten any on my jawline though, like a couple people have complained about. and i still haven't re-broken out on my chin (thank goodness, because that was a hot spot for acne before dan's and bothla's regimen). as of now i'm going to say my acne is about 15% better, but i wasn't excepting a miracle this soon. i wish i had never tried dan's regimen though, it's screwed up my skin so bad. so i realize it's going to take awhile before anything is going to help get my skin back to normal. even though i'm slowly seeing a little bit of improvement, i really like bothla's regimen. it takes like no time to do compared to dan's regimen. and my skin is soft and glowy. everyone says my acne is getting better, but i think it's just because my skin (overall, sans acne) is looking better and is less red. anyways, that's pretty much it as of now :]
I tried the blackhead scrub. It works well.
Is it worth getting the other wash?
Or should I still keep trying to wash my face with my own urine and Nuetragena products? lol
ok - yuck - if you get good results with just the 2% sa wash - then ok to not incorporate the bp. But if you find that you are not getting good results after while - start adding the bp wash every night after you wash with the scrub.
Okay it's been about 3 weeks since I started this regimen and unfortunatly things are not looking better. In fact, I have a lot of little pimples forming on my cheek that I've never had before. They aren't coming to a head so they are pretty much just a real pain in the butt. I have noticed that my skin is drying out A LOT... and that's even with moisturizer.
If I was a person who only broke out occasionaly I would stay away from this regimen as I'd be afraid that my acne would flare up worse. I really had nothing to loose as my face is a mess... but I didn't think it would become more of a mess. I think I will give the regimen one more full week and if I see no improvement I'm on to my next plan.
Well, before my face went out of whack this summer (don't quit anything cold turkey!), I used the Proactiv three-step system (Cleanser: 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, toner: no BP or SA, Lotion: 2.5% benzoyl peroxide) and used Denorex (3% salicylic acid) beore I used the Proactiv cleanser. It cleared up my face (except blackheads...oh well ), but my skin was very reddish-pink. I now realise it's better to have a "flush" face instead of acne. I'm now doing this again, but want something great for scars. The mandelic acid sounds great, but would there be an initial breakout? That's something I really don't want right now...
this is my 4th week, and my acne has gotten a bit worse. i'm not sure if i should continue, but there's not much else i can do because i've tried every other stupid acne thing out there (except accutane, i'm never going there). i've broken out with a huge pimple near my nose, one like half-way on my lip, a cyst on my chin, a cyst on my forehead, and about 8 other pimples. i really hate this.
