I've been using this regiment for about a week and a half. There's been little or no progress. Not even those huge breakouts that everyone has been talking about.

I've been thinking about using both products morning and night. I think my skin is tough enough for it because my skin hasn't been drying up or anything from this regiment. Do you guys think it's a good idea?

YES! Use a moisturizer at night if you get too flaky...

I meant using both the SA and BP in the morning and at night. lol.

And I meant YES use both SA and BP am and pm and if you get too flaky, use the moisturizer at night in addition LOL!

I think I'm going to give this regimen a try... it's cheap, and will hopefully be effective as I know in the past I've cleared up off just a bp wash, and I'm currently using SA to spot/area treat with good clearing results. So I hope the combo does it for me, frankly, I'm DONE w/ dealing w/ acne. So over it. Anyway- I will be using a moisturizer, most likely Eucerins Redness Relief Perfecting Lotion SPF 15, anyone have experience w/ moisterizer on this regimen? Would it be okay to moisturize both day and night? Normally, I never use one, but my skin is so red all the time, I'm sick of the white neck red face look, and I know BP will only make that more extreme, exp. in the first few weeks. Thanks everyone, hope this works out for me, as well as everyone else whos trying to clear up w/ this. Will keep updated in the weeks to come!

Yes, you can moisturize day and night if necessary. I've been following Dan's advice on this subject: when you moisturize at night, wait for the BP to dry completely and, as a rule of thumb, use about half as much moisturizer as BP. The moisturizer will reactivate the BP and make it gummy, and the two will tend to mix together. For this reason, give the BP time to absorb, then apply a small amount of moisturizer and be very light-handed with it. Good luck!

Thanks Pwnie. I won't be putting a BP cream/gel on my skin afterwards actually, I tried Dans regimen and my skin and it just really didn't get along (irritation, redness, etc.). I'll be using the Continuous Control Cleanser by C&C like the guy in the original post does. I've cleared up off a BP wash before, also I read somewhere that BP does its "job" in about 30 seconds so there really is no need to leave it on my skin like that, personal preference though I guess. Anyway, thankyou so much for you're help. I was a little apprehensive about using a moisterizer as I've always stayed away from them, period, in fear of breaking out more. But, with BP use I don't think it's really an option, also, it shouldn't cause many issues because the SA/BP combo should work regardless. I just want to get rid of this damn redness! And I've heard some great things about that moisterizer, we shall see though! Again, thanks for your help!!

Wow, it's been a while and this thread is still around! I saw this thread sometime back in 2005, and started using the two products around that time. I didn't feel the SA scrub was doing anything for me so I stopped using that after a while but I continued with the C&C cleanser and it still works to this day. I admit, I have strayed a couple of times.. trying new cleansers such as Cetaphil and Dove, cleansers which are said to be just as effective and less harsh. Well, neither did anything for my skin - all I got was clogged pores. Back to the C&C cleanser and I did experience an initial purging/breakout during the first week but things have calmed down since then. The one that I buy only contains 5% BP, and I don't believe I experienced any redness when I first started using it. Still experience a bit of dryness around the nose and mouth, especially during winter, but a bit of Cetaphil moisturising cream applied to those areas helps.

I sort of, kind of came to the same conclusion.

However, I use Cetaphil bar cleanser because it destroys bacteria and has built-in moisturizer.

In the morning I use Paula's Choice 2% SA. In the evening I use Clean & Clear 10% BP. I use each after I wash my face with that Cetaphil cleanser.

The problem I have with OP's regimen is that SA has to stay on face for 30 seconds before it creates an effect that only becomes visible after about 6-8 weeks of use. It has to STAY on your face for a while to exfoliate.

So, my conclusion is that BP 10% helped this guy out more than anything else.

Don't be hating 10% BF. It works for certain kind of acne and some people have strong hydrated skin and don't get flakyness or dryness from BP.

I've been using a combination of salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide and have had great results as well. ... I did tweak it a bit though!

After reading a few pages of this thread some weeks ago it seemed to make sense to me because the 2.5% benzoyl was helping me, but I was still getting breakout which I felt were due to clogged pores...it was as if the benzoyl just couldn't get deep enough into the pores. Since I was having ok results with Neutrogena On the Spot 2.5% I decided to stick with that product.

Since Botchla had great success with Clean and Clear I decided to check for a salicylic product from their line. I chose Clean and Clear Continuous Control Acne Wash which has 2% salicylic acid.

These two products together have been working really well for me since I began using them about 2 weeks ago:

Morning - wash with Clean and Clear, pat face dry with paper towels.

Apply Neutrogena on the Spot

Night - same as morning.

One note - after 2 days my face became really dry and started to flake. Of course, I had expected this! But I kept with it - would much rather deal with the dryness than acne. I'm looking for a good exfoliator now to add to my regimen to help with the flaking.

Hmmm...sounds like an interesting regiment. The OP is correct that skin exfoliation enhances the effectiveness of Benzoyl Peroxide and may enhance the effectiveness of other topical medications as well. Skin exfoliation is the key as dead skin cells, dirt and oil block the pores preventing topical meds such as BP from achieving their true potential.

I'm currently using a Baking Soda scrub to exfoliate with followed by Benzaclin and it's working fantastic. Salicylic acid looks promising as it sheds dead skin cells, but I'm hesitant. The only time I used Salicylic acid (many years ago) I broke out horribly with cysts. So yeah I'm not sure I want to go down that path again, but I'm glad people are realizing how important skin exfoliation is.

I'm into my third week now using the clean and clear continuous wash and 2.5 BP and i'm still happy with the results...only a few breakouts now.

I'm looking for a good exfoliating product with salicylic acid in it...I tried St. Ives but I think its too rough and it made my face really oily. Baking soda is too harsh for everday. Any suggestions?

I've been on the dkr for about 4 months, it did get me clear but my face is always so dry and red and flakey. It takes forever to in the morning and now I moved out for college I can't afford all thee products usually. If I do try this regimen will I get a bad breakout since m skin is already used to bp? Anyone came from DKR and had success?

When I first switched to the 10% bp wash - it did make me a little more dry and flaky. I didn't have a breakout, I had great results. However some don't, if you read this log all the way through. One thing that folks miss on this regimen is that the OP did the face washes - not apply the products that last all day. I like the Clean and Clear 2% scrub better than the walmart version - it is not expensive and lasts a long time. The 10% bp Clean & Clear continuously clear bp wash lasts a long time too - like 2-3 months. Do the SA wash, leave on for a few minutes - then do the bp wash, using a pea sized amt to start - start out with 1 minute and work your way up, to see what your skin does. I do only once a day and have good results, but I do another routine in the pm. I would suggest that you spot treat with your bp 2.5% that you use now, if you have spots initially during the day as well and see how it goes. SA is a great thing to add to your reg and the combo of the 2 I thing made a huge difference for me.

Just started this about twenty minutes ago never having tried anything for my mildish acne. I must say, my face is feeling pretty tingly and cool. I just washed with the SA then the BP like in the instructions, and nothing else. After my face dried it looks like I should use some moisturizer, although it's usually like that right after I wash my face.

I've been on this regime for a week. I like the combo which leaves me a cool, tingly feeling and afterwards I'd usually add Sodium Sulfacetamide 10% and Sulfur 5% lotion to further prevent acne and it works like a charm. No break outs or anything and it helps reducing redness/rosacea on my face.

So I just started this bp & sa facewash regimen...I have done alot of research about the affects of using both in combination. I found several derm websites that offer sa wash/sa treatment/bp treatment as a pack to be used together. I have read that combinations of both can harm your skin but alot of derm sites have this combo as their acne regimen so I am going for it. It's day three i am a bit itchy, but no new zits. I also use a sa spot treatment on existing pimples and bp spot treatment on certain areas. So far so good. Hoping this works! I don't think I have ever been 100% clear since birth.

It's been a week, and I haven't had anything, not even an initial breakout. I still get little whiteheads that are barely noticeable, I really have to look up close to notice them there, and they disappear within a day. I use both twice a day, and I keep the BP on for one to two minutes. When I first started, it felt like my lips were getting really dry and a bit swollen, but it does say on the tube for the BP to keep away from eyes, mouth, and lips, and I wasn't really being careful the first few times. Now my lips are pretty much back to normal.

The marks left from previous acne haven't gone away yet, although I suppose that's because there's nothing special in this treatment to make your marks heal faster, it just makes it so you don't get any new ones, letting your old ones heal up. My skin feels really soft after washing though.

you are right, this won't really help red marks, it will help you not have breakouts. One of things that helped me with the white heads is exfoliation in between the SA and the BP. I use a washcloth in my sig that is awesome for getting that top layer off, and really helps with the products absorbing into your skin. The baby brush method is good, but this works better for me.

SA doesnt help with marks? really?

ive been using neutrogena's advanced system for the past month and got pretty good results. the wash in it is 0.5% SA.

it was AMAZING in getting rid of marks!. i actually had a quarter sized mark on my chin from falling and it got rid of it within 3 weeks!.

im now on the botchla regimen. havent had any new pimples for three days. face looks amazing, and marks heal even faster!.

SA and BP do take about a month to work though.

the reason? idk, they should start working off the bat but they dont. when i was on the neutrogena system, i kept getting better and better every week. now im on botchla and i havent had any new bumps (hopefully it lasts)!.

the dryness will last for 4 weeks, MAX.

i also use Olay complete with spf 15 and a 2.0% CVS SA wash for bacne if that matters.

good that you have had those results, haven't seen much help with SA and red marks -especially only at .5% - AHA's are more known for that. Congrats.
