Skin Condition As per usual redness was to a minimum when I woke up All the acne on my cheeks are gone, im left with many prominent marks though My chin is still a whitehead factory, but the whiteheads sorta just.....fell off? flaked off?.... this morning The area around my mouth looked a little flakey when i first woke up.....and once I washed my face and let it dry I saw my entire face was a flake fest. There was dryness surrounding each of the little marks/pimples on my forehead and cheeks which seemed to be good. It was literally a circle of dryness around each pimple. There was dryness on my eyelids and undereyes. Looks like I need to be even MORE careful about not getting the adapalene near my eyes There was the most dryness and flakage around my mouth. My skin looked snow white in that area because of how flakey it was. Im going to need to avoid this area with adapelene too. my forehead looks smooth overall besides a few little pink spots, each looking a little dry The deep "underground" painful pimple really isnt doing much at all. Just chilling there still, but a little flakey around the edges Application This morning I washed my face with warm water before applying the sulfacleanse and briefly rubbing it in. I rinsed and tried to be careful to avoid my eye area. After washing I let my skin dry a little and it was at this moment I saw how insanely flakey my skin was. I took a warm wet washcloth and GENTLY used circular motions around my mouth to remove the excess skin flakes (ew). Even after doing this it was still very flakey but there was considerable improvement. I applied a thick layer of moisturizer After that dry I applied another layer of moisturizer in the areas that needed it I took my doxycycline MAKEUP I ended up putting on a little green tinted primer over my cheeks along with a light amount of bb cream to cover some of my acne marks Before bed I washed my face with my cerave hydrating cleanser i waited 20 minutes I applied adapelene being careful to put it only on areas with lots of acne/marks i waited 5 minutes I applied a thick layer of moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations The peeling and dryness is here in full force. As much as I want to stop uusing the adapelene and make the peeling stop, Im going to perservere and push through. I applied less adapelene tonight, and really concentrating on ONLY applying it on areas with bad acne The peeling is bad but managable: Just using washcloths to remove dead skin in the morning and LOTS of moisturizer I hope I dont get peelier than this I want that big pimple under my nostril to leave!!!
Skin Condition today I woke up with skin that wasnt all that red at all. Even my acne seemed to be less red. My cheeks dont seem to have much acne on them anymore, just lots and lots of old acne marks my chin has a few dry scablike spots from where some whiteheads popped the night before last. my forehead is looking pretty good. Its really smooth aside from a few pink bumps and 1 whitehead. otherwise my skin texture looks good. The deep "underground" painful pimple just under my left nostril is still there. It doesnt hurt as much so progress maybe? Application This morning I washed my face with warm water before applying the sulfacleanse and briefly rubbing it in. I rinsed and tried to be careful to avoid my eye area. I applied a thick layer of moisturizer I took my doxycycline I washed my face in the middle of the day because i sweated a little and just wanted a refresher. I used mostly warm water and a tiny bit of my gentle cerave cleanser I applied my moisturizer Before bed I washed my face again with the gentle hydrating cerave cleanser waited 20 mins applied the adapalene all over my face waited 5 minutes applied my moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations My face has one or two little flaky bits that I was able to treat with some moisturizer... I noticed extra flakyness towards the end of the day Also towards the end of the day a few whiteheads popped up on my chin. i think this is good. my skin is clearing out. Because of the decreased redness in my skin today, the whiteheads arent even all that annoying. my period is coming to an end so maybe thats contributing to the reduced redness? My face seriously had little to no redness beyond areas immediately surrounding a pimple or acne mark. So thats nice
Skin Condition I woke up with skin that looked just as red as yesterday if not more red My cheeks are still covered with deep red acne and acne marks, theres an additional whitehead or two the whiteheads on my chin seemed to have popped while i was sleeping (ew) and are kinda scabbed over now last night my forehead had lots of little bumps and that seems to have condensed down into 4 or 5 whiteheads.....i think thats a good thing?? my forehead looks smoother overall The deep "underground" painful pimple just under my left nostril is still there. not sure if its doing any better or worse Application This morning I washed my face with warm water before applying the sulfacleanse and briefly rubbing it in. I rinsed and tried to be careful to avoid my eye area. I applied a thick layer of moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed I washed my face with my cerave hydrating cleanser waited 20 minutes I applied the adapelene ONLY on areas with highly concentrated pimples (cheeks, chin) I am going to go the first week alternating between using the adapelene all over my face and using it only in areas of high concern. The reason for this is I dont want to apply too much adapelene on areas where I have no pimples like my jawline and cheekbones. After the week is over and my face is better adjuusted to the adapelene I think I will use it nightly over my entire face. waited 5 minutes applied my moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations My face feels a little drier today but nothing insane. Im not peeling yet either. Still on my period, not sure if thats adding additional acne to my face still praying that if I experience the initial breakouts from adapelene that it happens soon and is over qickly. Notes Im already seeing how flexible this routine is going to become in the future, but as of now I think I will strictly stick to the routine above, where the only fluctuation night to night is how much (if any) adapelene I apply. I will try to not go ovverboard in the beginning, but eventally I intend to apply it on my entire face nightly
In an effort to go gentle on my skin, for the last 10 days I have used the sulfacleanse every other night and I have taken the doxycycline once a day. This was to allow my skin to adjust to these products before introducing the adapelene gel, the strongest of the medications. Today will be day 1 of my FULL regemen inculding the adapelene. So far, over the past 10 days I havent really noticed my acne reducing in amount, but mostly a reduction in the overall redness of my skin. So thats what my starting point will be. Skin Condition I am starting with pretty red, broken out skin. My cheeks are covered with deep red acne and acne marks my chin has plenty of marks and white heads my forehead has lots of little bumps. I have a deep "underground" painful pimple just under my left nostril. Hopefully that subsides instead of emerging as a giant whitehead Application In the Morning I washed my face with sulfacleanse I moisturized I took my Doxycycline with lots of food and water Before getting into bed (where I am now) I washed my face with a gentle cerave cleanser waited 20 mintues applied a pea sized amount of Adapelene by dotting it around my face and then rubbing it in waited 5 minutes applied my moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations So far so good. I didn't expect to discover much after this first application I am currently on my period, and I tend to get a little more acne flareups around that time. im taking that into account but with the rate that I get acne these days its hard to tell whats from my period and what isnt. My skin feels a little tight everywhere except my forehead. My forehead is where I'm usually oiliest so that's probably why its still nice and moisturized in that area. I've read from other experiences from people on Adapelene that I can expect to experience EXTREME skin dryness and flaking along with an initial breakout soon. Hopefully if I am going to experience either of those, they come and go quickly. I usually wake up in the morning with generally calmer looking skin from the evening before (less redness), but with an extra whitehead or two on my cheeks, chin or forehead, so we will see.
Notes This Blog will probably maintain a format similar to this one but its flexible to adjust to whatever information I find useful to add The reason I plan to explicitly state my application process each blog post is because I expect it to adapt and change as I go I will probably update the blog every day at least in the beginning and maybe less frequently as I go...I will see I am taking progress photos but to be completely honest I don't feel brave enough to share them. Maybe at the end of my journey I will feel differently and add some photos. Right now i'm mainly using the photos to track my own progress and detail it here.
