Product used: Emu Oil

Pros:

softens skin a little
lightens scars at first

Cons:

greasy
caused pretty bad breakouts when first used
doesn't do anything to scars in the long term

After buying 100% emu oil and rubbing it on my acne and trauma scars, i felt like it improved but after several days of usage, realized it could be a placebo from viewing the scar region right after rubbing with any moisturizer. after applying for 2 days, had a breakout but continued to consistently used it. after 2 weeks, I attempted to have a fresh, unbiased view of treated areas and realized nothing changed.

Pros:

-nice fragrance
-a decent amount

Cons:

-irritates skin like crazy
-caused minibreakouts

I have very sensitive pale skin. I applied this stuff at night and woke up in the morning with a rash like blemish on my chin (thats where i applied it). Later the rash went away and left behind two tiny zits. It took about a weeek for the redness and irratation to go away. Please think twice about buying this product. It made my life hell and i wouldnt wish these results on anyone.

Pros:

Cheap! Doesn't clog pores (for me), evens out skin tone, moisturizing, starting to fill in pitting scars..it takes time and patience though.

Cons:

Can leave your skin a little oily if over applied, takes time to see results in scar healing (but this is true with healing scars in general, it takes time)

I use this oil on top of my acanya gel, but under my cerave sunscreen during the day, and I use it before my atralin gel at night. I am SO pleased with how it's evened out my skin tone SO fast, and that it hasn't broken me out. I was skeptical with putting an oil on my oily skin, but my skin looks much healthier since I've added it to my daily/evening routine. It's supposed to help other products penetrate deeper into your skin because it's a carrier oil, so it could be the other products working better since they're being absorbed better? Either way my skin seems to look a lot healthier since using it. I've noticed a part of a scar I have on my temple starting to fill in a little, and I've only started using it about 3 weeks ago. I'm SO sick of dealing with my acne scars, so anything that helps me like this has is something I'll continue to use! I can only hope it gets better with time. It has vitamin C, E, and polyphenols in it...great antioxidents for the skin and a lot of asian people use it, they claim it's why asian people have such wonderful skin. I ordered a dermaroller, and I plan on using this oil in conjunction with the dermaroller with hopes that my scars will begin to fill in more. We shouldn't have to live with scars, it's embarassing and I'm sure I can speak for all of us when I say we've had enough! I think this is something that might not work for everyone! I've read a lot of reviews on Silkia camellia oil, and it clogs pores for some people although you never know unless you try. Sucks, I know. I only use it on my scars though, they're a little hyper pigmentated but the oil has evened that out pretty well so far. I'm afraid if I use it on the other parts of my face i'll break out, so use as you see fit :) It's worth a try I think, but you have to be patient with scar healing. Unfortunately there's no over night cure for that, but this is the best product I've run into so far! I couldn't find the Silkia brand i

Pros:

Smells Nice, Fast Acting, Evens Out Skin Tone quickly, Reduces the apperance of scars nicely

Cons:

Causes Acne & spots

If your young and have active acne i reccomend that you do not use it for too long or too much. I Had a small amount of acne that was under control but now its caused a breakout. But I highly reccoment that you use this for scars because i used it for about a day or two and it rapidly faded them :)

Product used: Emu Oil

Pros:

heal scar or tatoo FAST.

Cons:

oily. when you sleep with that on your face it can leave your pillow greasy

20$ and last for month. don't use it all time. 2-3 night per week is just enough.
October 22, 2008

Pros:

-Makes your skin very soft
-Makes your skin glow
-Did not make me break out

Cons:

-None!

I have only been using this for the moisturizing affect and therefore can't comment on how well it works for other purposes, but I love it as a moisturizer and use it twice a day as part of my regular skin care regime. You only need to use a tiny bit, or else it does make your skin oily and takes a long time for your skin to absorb it. It is pretty inexpensive and lasts for a long time.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
