Pros:

This usually cleared up my moderate facial acne within 3 weeks of using it nightly. Eventually, effectiveness wore off, but I was usually mostly clear.

Cons:

Tazorac always made my face peely, red and irritated when i first started on it. My skin would get used to it and would no longer peel. IT's a little costly too.

wasn't always effective for me but helped my acne sometimes. utimately not worth it's price as the results were irregular for me.

Pros:

In three months largely clear.

Cons:

Dry, burning, peeling, itchy skin when you first start. Does get a lot better once your sking gets used to it. Remember to use small amount.

Makes you break out at first and is highly irritating. If you go easy and use moisturiser then should be OK. Gets rid of pimples and prevents new ones from forming.

Pros:

Works very well as a preventative measure, .05 doesn't overdry, controls oil

Cons:

Skin looks worse before it gets better, Itches miserably if you put too much

Two things you should know. This product seems like it was made for people with oily skin. It dries you out really bad if you have naturally dry skin. I have combination skin, so I use .1% on my forehead & .05% on my cheeks, nose, & chin. Second, you know exactly how much you should put on by how your skin feels. If you have been using it more than a month & it still burns/itches when you put it on, YOU ARE USING FAR TOO MUCH. I use a pea sized drop for my forehead & another for the rest of my face. It should be a slight tingle. Using too much will make it not work as well, so be careful. I am a light skinned black male with mild acne that is EXTREMELY STUBBORN, & the combination of a 5% Glycolic Acid wash, Triaz 5% pads in the AM, 10%-2% Gly-Sal Pads in the PM, & Doryx seems to be THE ONLY thing that works.

Pros:

Works amazingly well on getting rid of acne. You must give it a little time, but I have been on it now for over two years and I have had two years of clear skin to the point where I've had numerous people comment on how smooth and nice my skin looks!

Cons:

Dries out skin a lot (I use the .1% twice a day). I have to spend 5 minutes rubbing my skin each time I wash my face to rub dry skin off, but after that, I'm good to go for the way. Sometimes makes red and blotchy---but much better than acne.

I have had acne since the 4th grade and will have it all my life b/c it's hormonal. I have been on almost every single topical cream (though I've always stayed clear of antibiotics). Hands down this is by far the best stuff ever! Give it a little time, but honestly, you can't get a better topical. As long as you can deal w/dryness and occasional redness, your acne will be so much better. I occassionaly get a little pimple, but a touch of cover up and you can't notice it. I am 24 and finally have beautiful skin. I am completely confident to leave the house with no makeup and I know my face looks good. I will be on this for life! My dermitologist has also used this for years (after years of struggling with acne) and swears she'll never give it up. I also use spironolactone (a water pill) twice a day which helps reduce my skin's oiliness.

Pros:

Works really fast. But for old blemishes, its takes a long time.

Cons:

There isn't any.

The first five days my pimples were gone, but it took a while for the blemishes to clear up and its still taking its time to fade. But I have way better skin than before. I started to use Proactive in 2004-05 and then my skin broke out again and had worsen, so i tried Murad, it made it more irritated and redder. So I started to put more makeup on and try to use my hair to cover it up. Boy, did i cry a lot. It never broke out so bad. I went to the doctor and he made for me an appointment for a dermatoligist to see that visits the same hospital, every month, she taught me how to use it, like only where it in the night and keep it on for a few minutes than wash it off. I didnt take it off, i slept with it. It didnt dry out, because i had really oily skin and it is a cream, so it combines well, it only made my skin better. And i have medicaid card so i didnt have to pay anything and it i did it would be over $100.

Pros:

clears up skin.

Cons:

dryness to the point where your face feels on fire!

I've had different types of acne since I was 12. When I turned 15 it got really bad and I had it all over my cheeks. The dermatologist prescribed Tazorac and I decided to try it. This product really burns your face. I would cry almost every night because my felt literally felt on fire. My skin eventually conformed to the pain and it really did clear up. However, I began getting cystic acne on my chin and haven't been able to make it stop since. It caused my bacteria to mutuate and now I'm suffering on a different part of my face!

Pros:

reducing of production of oil gland(according to some articles), the main cause of acne.

Cons:

worsening of acne, other side effect take some long time to work(12 weeks). quite expensive.

I think you just need to give it a chance because of the final result(reducing oil) which is very good.

Pros:

It's definitely worked! Just have to be VERY patience. I saw a good result after 3.5 months of using Tazorac

Cons:

This product takes time to work. Broke out very bad for the first 2 months.

My skin is clear now after 5 months on Tazorac. I try everything for the last 3 years, from over the counter to description. Tazorac is the only thing that works for me. Have to use every day with a good moisturizer (I use Murad Perfecting Lotion)

About5-6 months ago, my forehead was filled with hundreds ( yes, hundreds , like almost every other pore ) of bumps , the bumps slowly became blackheads and extended itseld to my neck . I went to dermatologyst , $125 ,a 5 min quick look ( no questions asked other if I'm using any new products -wich I am not ) she prescribed me only tazorac . I have been using for about a month now , every night along with moisturizer , and so far I have only seen my forehead and neck getting worse , the acne that was before only in forehead and neck is extending around the cheek and rest of face , and what it used to be blackheads and comedones are now red and white heads and new blackheads and bumps keep appearing. Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
