Pros:

smooths out skin, makes scars less noticiable...reduces cystic acne and gives face a fresher look

Cons:

initial breakout, severe dryness and peeling

IM HERE TOO UPDATE!!!! i have been using this product for almost 3 weeks now. at first it made my skin veryy bad and it was breaking out alot and red and peely. althoughh the redness and peeling are still there, they are not as bad as before and i havnt gotten any more breakouts. ive already began to get compliments on my skin saying that it looks alot smoother. i had initially got it too smooth out the bumps in my skin from underlying acne and i find that this is the only thing ive ever used that has shown an improvement in the overall appearance of my skin.. its not for everyone but i truly do recommend it...i will update again in a couple of weeks im so excited!!!

Pros:

It cleared up every bit of my acne. After about 8 months, I only have one pimple.

Cons:

It WILL leave scars, please do not pick or pop.

The stuff makes your acne go away, but if you pick, you'll wish you hadn't.

Pros:

Help my skin clear up.major success

Cons:

my mouth is extremly dry @ times and when applied on the neck or chest then it peels really bad

TAZORAC works!!!!!!!! at the beginning i was so discouraged because of how my skin was looking. then as i started to use it religiously then i could see the decrease in my acne. i was so proud plus i heard it works better than proactive. i highly recomend it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros:

It clears you up eventually!

Cons:

The intial breakout can be bad but stick with it! It has made my skin oily!

I have struggled with acne since I was 12. Went to the derm tried several differen things, did work. Derm gave me tazorac and clyndimacin! And I was on for several years and it cleared my skin really well! I was so impressed that I got off it cuz who wants to be on medicine forever. Big mistake. I broke out in cystic acne which was stressed induced and I had never had this kind before! It took 3 months to get in with the derm and when she saw me she freaked out because she knew how clear i was before! I struggled for over a year trying to calm this cystic acne down and what made it worse was me worrying about it ALL THE TIME! I have no pictures of myself at the age of 19! I was a wreck, I would not go in the store or wal-mart! But finally calmed down, derm wanted me to go on accutane. I refused because my acne is not that bad!! So I am just not recently getting back on tazorac and clyndimiacin! I will update in a few weeks and let you know the progress! I am very hopeful!

Pros:

I've been on Tazorac for about 16 weeks now. My skin is MUCH clearer. It also appears to have minimized scars/redness from earlier breakouts.

Cons:

The first 2-4 weeks my skin broke out a lot more. I've also had days where my skin has peeled off in sheets, sometimes to the point where it oozes like a blister [sorry for being so graphic].

Hang on for the first several weeks - it will get worse before it gets better. I know it's easy to get discouraged. When it comes to application, less really is more. I think my skin peeled so much initially because I was applying way too much. I use the Neutrogena Wave to buff away dry skin in the AM. Careful - If your skin is "peeling" and not just "flaky", stay away from abrasive soups.

Pros:

clears up 99% of acne. now i only experience a few blackheads when I have my period, which is common. I had acne for about 7 years, this finally worked

Cons:

its expensive.

never made my skin dry or flaky..overall skin is softer and better looking...still a few zits once in awhile, NOTHING like it had been.. it works..BUT YOU GOTA STICK WITH IT.. makes skin worse at first because its getting the gross stuff out of the skin. may take a week or 2.

Pros:

-treating my acne pretty quickly
-diminished redness in just a week

Cons:

-fourth day i had skin dryer than a desert and it flaking and i couldnt even wear make-up
-apply non-comodegenic moistureizer before tazorac,

it works well, i think it will be worth the side effects, and its cheap!

Pros:

havnt seen any yet but this is my 4th application of the product to my face.

Cons:

obviously the dryness, peeling, increase too pimples and redness.
but this will be worth it if it does help in the end...

i have suffered with acne since i was 11. over the years, ive developed underlying acne so even though my skin looks clear on the outside, in certain lights you can tell that i have many small bumps that are just beneth the surface of my skin. i went to see a derm and he told me that he wouldnt reccommend taking them out by needle extracions since there would be a possiblity of scarring so he prescriped the Taz. im just hoping that it peels off the layers of my skin so that it can get to the real problem that is under my skin. i have noticed though that my skin has gotten worse but i am trying my best too stick with it because i figured i can survive a few months of horrible skin if it will get rid of my bumpy face in the long run. i just wouldnt reccommend wearing make up while on it which really sucks for me since i hate leaving the house without it on. my derm told me that it was ok for me too use makeup while on the taz as long as it is non-comodegenic. Good Luck everyone!!

Pros:

clears breakout faster than any other medication ive used. I became resistant to DUAC, whcih is a great topical medication. It got my skin cleared for 4 years. I swtiched to tazorac and it took my about a week for my skin to get use to it.

Cons:

Can cause your skin to become dry, and if you happen to get it on your lips, get it off right away because you'll wake up with rash and sore lips.

Wash your face with luke warm water. Wait for your face to dry and then put on non-comodogenic moisturizer. I use Cetaphil. Put the lotion on before putting onTazorac. This is crucial because tazorac itself will dry out your skin, further exasperating your acne problem, and believe me, you think dry skin is good, it isnt; you'll break out even more. Then apply tazorac, ONLY AFTER applying moisturizer that does not clog pores.

Pros:

It did help with my acne (out of nowhere at 23 I broke out in horrible acne on my temples/ear area and both sides of my neck)

My skin is also a lot smoother, too.

Cons:

Weird scent, and flaking of skin (sometimes becoming a bit ulcerated)

I got a few samples from my doctor, and I think I might buy this.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
