Acne.org’s Real World Take
Due to its antimicrobial properties and ability to absorb skin oil and dry out the skin, sulfur has been used for thousands of years for various skin conditions, including acne. However, it is normally reserved for noninflammatory acne (whiteheads and blackheads), because it doesn't work as well as other over-the-counter medications for inflammatory acne (papules and pustules).

Pros:

The cleanser, lotion and mask smelled good.
Skin cleared up VERY LITTLE the first week.
Other than that.. NONE!!!

Cons:

The Gel smelt HORRIBLE! My face broke out 10x worse from the second week - fourth week. It makes my face very shiny. Expensive.

I would not reccomend this product. I have been dealing with my acne since I hit puberity (i am now almost 22)... I have tried just about everything under the sun, so i figured hey why not one more. The first week I started to see slight results, and became veryyyy hopeful that this might be the end of my acne. Boy was I wrong. The second week was very bad. I was breaking out in places I never broke out before in my life. I thought maybe this was "supposed" to happen as they tell you. I continued using it and the third week was no different. I actually noticed I that the same pimple would continue to form a white head over and over and over again. Now on the fourth week it is still the same story except now i am having alot more cystic acne all over. TONIGHT WAS MY LAST NIGHT USING THIS PRODUCT AND I AM RETURNING IT FOR MY MONEY TOMORROW MORNING. HORRIBLE... good luck if u decide to try it, i really hope it works for u.. but i would NEVER EVER reccomend it unless u want ur face to become worse.

Perfect spot treatment

Pros:

Works overnight!
Helps my redness
Clears and closes pores

Honestly, the 3-step proactive system is bull honkey'" never worked for me, or a lot of people! This mask, however, is heaven sent. It is not for people who have very dry or brittle skin though, because it dries the skin out, that's how it works! I personally have medium to oily skin and tend to get a few bad pimples every month. I also have pretty bad black heads. I usually scrub my nose where most of my blackheads reside and put the mask in a thin later covering my nose. I go to bed, wake up, wash it off, and it's like my nose doesn't even HAVE pores. It sucks everything right out and closes the pores. I also put it on deep pimples to draw them out, or on the large painful ones to shrink them. It never dries my skin out because I do have oily skin. It also helps with my redness. I love using this overnight mask to treat problem pimples fast. My favorite acne product.

Pros:

-Good moisturizer

Cons:

-Did absolutely nothing for my acne
-Stings upon application
-I actually started breaking out MORE since using it
-Expensive for not doing anything

Don't spend your hard earned money on this. Not only did it not clear my acne, my acne got worse! I don't know if that was due to that alone, but either way it definitely did not help better the condition of my skin. I used to only break out on my cheeks and it was very small. Now it's progressed down to my chin and increased over the entirety of both my cheeks. I would say the best thing I got out of Murad was the moisturizer, which I might actually purchase alone. As for the system as a whole, does not do as it promises.

This is not a great remedy for acne. As much as I wanted it to work it didn't do anything positive for my skin.

Pros:

-smells great
-leaves skin fresh and "clean"
-not sticky, or over-drying
-customer service, live chat on website to answer any and all questions
-clears my skin!!

Cons:

None for me

Murad is the only product I will EVER put on my face, for any issue I ever have with my skin. they have an amazing line of products, and I am indebted to Dr. Murad!! They have the best customer service, and I am a member, so I receive a kit every 60 days of the acne regimen. live chat with a REAL person, they go out of their way to ensure you are satisfied, and I know that from experience. I know this product may not work for everyone, but I am agitated by the comments I am reading! It takes more than 4 weeks to tell if a product works for you, It takes about a month and a half. You can't wash your face with a product one morning and that night and expect to have a clear complexion! Your skin has to regenerate, and that is where the "purging process" comes into play. Pimples can take a while (2-3 weeks) to actually reach your skin's surface, and everyone's skin is different. My face didn't clear up in 4 weeks as advertised, but it did in a month and a half! Murad Ance Complex and Murad's team of experts has changed my life, and the way I treat my skin. My experience with this product is top-notch, and I achieved the results I wanted and then some. My acne is gone, and now I am working with the Murad team to ensure my skin care regimen is right for me, for whatever my concerns are now, which ISN"T ACNE! I would recommend this product to anyone who loves their skin, and wants to GET CLEAR!! I suffered with hormonal cystic acne, red, irritated, itchy painful skin. Please give it a try, and if you have tried it but quit or didn't follow the regimen as directed, don't write a negative review because you didn't get to experience the full cycle.

Pros:

I had a huge pimple on my chin. The first night, I put some toothpaste on it, went to sleep, and woke up with the pimple bigger and redder. The second night, I used the Proactiv Refining Mask. It was completely gone in the morning.

Cons:

It's a little hard to rub off, but just take a shower and it will go away.

You should definitely get the Proactiv Refining Mask. Of all of the products and home remedies I have tried, this is by far the best and fastest working.

Pros:

Had tried loads of spot remedies nothing worked was thinking of going to the doctors it was that bad. Bought Bye Bye Blemish as a last resort and I'm glad I did it was the best product I have ever tried for spots/acne.

Cons:

It clears spots/pimples but can leave marks on the skin (these fade with time and are easier to cover up with make up than spots/pimples).

I would recommend it. Its easy to apply, affordable and works. I always have a bottle handy in the house incase of breakouts.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
