Acne.org’s Real World Take
Due to its antimicrobial properties and ability to absorb skin oil and dry out the skin, sulfur has been used for thousands of years for various skin conditions, including acne. However, it is normally reserved for noninflammatory acne (whiteheads and blackheads), because it doesn't work as well as other over-the-counter medications for inflammatory acne (papules and pustules).

Pros:

Works!!! No smell when applied, cheap, lasts for months, leaves totally clear skin.

Cons:

Stings a little when smoothing on, but rarely.

I'm a teenage girl going to school, and looks mean everything to me. I always had PERFECT ^_^ skin, but then I guess puberty set in, and I was not ready for it. I had no knoweledge of how to get rid of acne, nor did my parents bcuz their skin was always perfect; WHY WASN'T MINE XD. I did tons of research, bought tons of products; which only made me worse (dry skin, shiny nose). I was getting so depressed from this curse; looks mean everything to me. My Mom ran across this, and just because it was not popular; I doubted it would work. I read reviews and it sounded promising; so I bought it. I washed my face with moisturizing noxzema face wash, washed only my problem areas (forehead, left cheek) with clearasil ultra daily face wash, and finally applied this to only my problem areas and went to sleep. I swear I woke up, looked in the mirror, and felt like crying tears of joy. My face was almost totally clear, I was exstatic. Now its been a long time since then, so I'm not exactly sure how long it took my face to get 100%. I think it was like 3 days and my face was almost totally clear though. I decided to write because I did use it today bcuz I stopped doing anything to my face for a long time, and I noticed hair products messing with my skin. My skin is again 100% from this though. Thats why I decided to review. One thing, your face will get dry if u use it more than once a day. Please do like me and use it every night, and sleep with it on. Then rinse it off in the morning.

Pros:

Nice customer service

Cons:

Didnt work, and actually made skin worse

Didnt work, didnt like how you are automatically billed and they are not up front about it. I actually ordered the second month, and then shortly received another box, as it was automatically shipped, which i didnt know. They were not able to cancel the other order of course. If it worked it would of been one thing, but not working is another.

Pros:

attractive price
exfoliating tingles so it appears to work

Cons:

eyes got swollen
skin became red and irritated
increase in breakouts on jawline and neck
moisturizer smells bad and doesn't hydrate

My face was getting much better with PCP's prescription of : Tretinoin. I was getting compliments about my face clearing up. But then I saw the tv advertisement on Murad making the skin look shiny, with the whole kit which i use Cellex-C brands (very expensive but works fabulous). I was tempted to buy something more affordable that has great results. Was I wrong. Even though I kept all the products away from my eyes, the first night i work up in fear that my eyelids were swollen. you can just feel it. I thought i would just keep using it because my skin had to get use to it - well my colleagues noticed my face and eyes swollen and I started to get new pimples/scars below my jawline. NO WAY! I I have decided to stop using it and return it asap!!! I am taking two days off - and then returning to my prescribed medication (tretinoin) and expensive Cellex-C (cleanser, toner, moisturizer) that actually works - no matter the price!!

!!
i leave it on overnight and it never dried my skin. it may be because i have oily skin, i'm not sure. plus, if your skin starts to peal or dry up, it's common sense to stop applying to that area and apply a hydrating lotion instead. all my big pimples, except one, have vanished in less than five days. i first applied it to those then gradually smeared a thin layer across my forehead (where i have those tiny pimples that can only be seen in bright lights) and they're clearing up super fast. this product is a life saver because it shrinks a pesky pimple overnight. if i leave it on for 10 minutes then wash it off, it doesn't work for me. i only use it once day, i leave it on overnight. but you have to make sure your skin is clean before you apply it! overall, this is a great product 100/10 i recommend (''':

Saved my face
Let me start off by saying DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT leave this on overnight, your skin will start to peel. And do not spread this all over your face before having tested this out on a small patch of skin sulfur may be too strong for some of you. Okay now to the review, this saved my face. I am 21 years old. I had never broken out like crazy. Just one or two pimples that would last 2-3 days and then go away without me having to even use anything on it. 6 months ago i got the worse break out of my life. I mean 10-15 pimples all over my face. Pimples with no head that were underneath the skin. I looked up remedies online. I tried washing with salycilic acid. Nothing. I tried benzoyl peroxide. Nothing. I tried drinking 3 liters of water (which i still do) No improvements after 2-3 months of doing so. I started exercising about 2 months ago (i still do this) no improvements. I started taking fish oil to try and regulate hormones, no improvements. Finally i bought this ointment 2 weeks ago. People were saying after 3 days their acne was gone, That didnt happen for me. But I didnt give up because I know products take time to work. Last week all my acne started coming to a head. They popped and dried out and are gone. I now have 2 pimples that are underneath remaining (very small ones i might add) everything else gone. Redness gone, pimples gone, texture gone. My face is back to normal im so happy

Pros:

**in reference to this product as a spot treatment!**

-Reduces swelling.
-Reduces redness.
-Makes zits dry up fast.
-Helps soothe painful zits.

Cons:

-If you use too much too, or too often, it will dry your skin pretty bad.
-Hard to wash off.

This product has been my best buddy for a long time. It works great, it's fast and effective. I recommend using it after applying moisturizer, so that your skin doesn't dry up. Because I've learned that if my skin gets dry, I break out! But overall, I LOVE this stuff!

Pros:

Tingled. Kind of cleared my face.

Cons:

Acne came back. Painful. Drying. Too expensive.

I used this product for the four weeks it suggested it would take to clear my face. Well, it kind of cleared my face, but it left it dry, red, and in pain. The acne wasn't really going away so I returned it when they sent me the larger samples. BOTTOM LINE: This product is TOO expensive for how poorly it performed.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
