Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

Nice to know I'm buying from an ecologically responsible small business that values its customers and the planet.

Cons:

none so far.

It's 15% salicylic acid, unbuffered, in a denatured alcohol solution. Nothing extra added, and it works like a charm. I use it on my chest and don't rinse it off. I know this is a no-no with KAVI, but it's what works best for me. FYI, one 2oz bottle lasts me about 6 months.

Pros:

Fast results (the best part)
All Natural
No harsh chemicals
There's a $2 coupon, since it's new!
Good for sensitive skin - most acne products make my face dry, redder, and itchy, but not this one!

Cons:

It took me this long to find it! I love it!

I'm 22 and have had acne since I was 13. It got to be more moderate around the age of 18 and has been like that since. I bought this two days ago in California, where I was visiting family. The air is very dry out there, and I was there for a week. Prior to this, I had been using Neutrogena (my old favorite) and Clean & Clear products. Not until the day after I bought and used Burt's Bee's, did I notice the drastic change in my acne! I used it once right after buying it, and again before bed. The next morning, I already saw new acne bumps dried out, shrunk much smaller, and almost ready to be exfoliated off! :) That's pretty cool. I used the Toner from the same line as well, but no lotion, and my skin didn't get dry. Now that I'm home in Mass, it's humid here, so I DEFINITELY won't be needing lotion anyway. It doesn't dry out your skin! It just dries the acne! PS: I tried ProActiv, for about 6 months, and the whole time, my face was itchy, skin was really flaky and dry, and the acne more painful, but I kept using it, even though my acne didn't go away at all. They told me on the phone that the redness would go away, but it never did. The Burt's Bees is cheaper, and it didn't do that to my skin, plus it's lessened my acne! I might have had an allergic reaction to the Benzoyl Peroxide in ProActiv.

Pros:

dont have as many pimples as before
makes skin feel fresh
is a full system

Cons:

spot treatment is running out fast but that could be my fault

Now its been about a week of using this product, and my skin has improved The only thing is im a really bad picker and the only big pimples that seem to still be there are the 4 that i picked at which is my fault, and majority of all the little things are barely there anymore which showed that the product is working, the box says give us 2 weeks so ill do another review at the end of these 2 weeks, so i have to say im very glad with the results so far!

Pros:

-It was on sale.
-Nice bottle.
-Convenient.

Cons:

-It made my face peel off.
-It made my face feel wrinkly when I made face expressions.
-It dried out my face overall.

If you don't have much acne, it is probably the worst moisturizer EVER. It dries out your face and it makes your face feel very wrinkly. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IF YOU HAVE LITTLE ACNE.

Pros:

It's great!
Clears body acne.
Smells nice.
Leaves you feeling fresh.

Cons:

Requires at least some patience.
Kinda hard to get out of the bottle.

This product did wonders for my back and chest acne. When I though nothing would work for me.. THIS DID! Don't expect it to clear up over-night though, kiddo. Take a deep breath, use once a day, and you'll see results in about a week to two weeks time (at least it did for me). ENJOY (:

Pros:

Exfoliates and cleanses deep, makes your skin feel smooth and look healthy. Smells GREAT!

Cons:

Doesn't soothe redness. Wont really help with severe acne or anything like that.

This smooth, creamy facial cleanser is great for mild acne and simple breakouts.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
