Acne.org’s Real World Take
Light therapy is a temporary and time-consuming treatment option that produces only modest results. However, it is the least invasive of any acne treatment, and its only downside is that it reduces folic acid levels.

How to Get It
Light therapy can be performed with stronger, professional light devices at a doctor’s office. Have a dermatologist? Make an appointment to get this procedure done. Don't have a dermatologist? See The American Academy of Dermatology Physician Database to find one. Weaker light therapy devices are also available over-the-counter. Here are some places you can find it online.

Pros:

- Blue & Red Light in One Compact Device
- Portable & Rechargeable
- Quick 10 Minute Sessions (5 Blue & 5 Red)
- Consistent Results

Cons:

- Frequent Charging (I Use Mine A LOT)

I'm not much for writing reviews, but since I suffer with this skin condition called "Acne" I felt compelled to write a review on the Ansr light therapy device so here goes. I first stumbled across light therapy for treating acne quite some time ago, but found most devices to be fairly pricey and time consuming (not to mention requiring multiple devices for red & blue systems sold separately). It wasn't until I was doing some early Christmas shopping and came across this product. I was interested to see if this would improve or reduce the amount and number of breakouts, provided with the benefits of reducing pore size and anti-aging properties. I've been about 6 weeks into treatment and all I can say is that this device has drastically improved my complexion. Now the manufacturer suggests anywhere from 1-3 months of daily use twice per day to start seeing results, but the first week alone my skin just started getting better and better ever since. I like the fact this has both blue & red light combined in one device that is portable, compact, and easy to take along when travelling. My pore size has shrunk, and I've noticed the fine lines and wrinkles around my lips, forehead, and eye area especially have been diminished. I plan on to keep using this device for the next couple of months to see how much more improvement can be obtained. So far I'm very thrilled with this product and would recommend it to anyone to compliment their skin care routine. I have noticed that healing is A LOT faster and breakouts don't seem to come to quite to a head (some don't even surface at all). Treatment is quick, 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes at night, although sometimes I end up doing both sessions in the evening depending on my schedule. All in all for the price and benefits I've seen it's already paying for itself. I think this is the Ansr I've been looking for. :) Good Luck!

Pros:

No pros to this treatment.

Cons:

Very expensive and didn't do anything for my skin.

I paid 400.00 for three sessions of the blue omnilux light treatments. After completing the sessions, I seen no improvement, so they said I needed to buy another package to see results. So I bought another package at 400.00. Did the sessions, still no results, paid for another package and 1200 bucks down the drain, and I have just a slight improvement. Not worth the money at all. Hocus Pocus!

My freckles just flaked off
I found this treatment to be great for hyper-pigmentation -performed in a Dermatologist Clinic NOT A SALON!! TAKE CARE HERE PEOPLE 2 days after the treatment, whilst gently washing my face I noticed that the sun damaged and darker spots literally flaked off. It also helped with some hyper-pigmentation from some old acne scars, looking forward to round 2. If you are going to invest in IPL then do your research as to the qualifications of the person and the machine used. Not all are the same. In the wrong hands these devices can literally ruin your skin.

Pros:

- Helped reduce some excess facial and body hair

Cons:

- STARTED my adult-onset acne!

I'm pretty sure this started my acne. It's that simple. I never had acne as a teenager - just the odd spot. But being dark-haired, I have had hirsutism since my teens (male-pattern hair growth in a woman). I don't look like a man, and most people probably don't notice, but I have tried (and continue to try) many things to manage it over the years, and IPL was one of them. I'm 34 now, and started IPL treatment when I was 28, in the spring of 2006. By the autumn, I had moderate acne - big, sore, swollen bumps along my jawline and on my cheeks (areas I hadn't had spots before). I did say to the woman who did my treatment that I seemed to have developed acne while having the treatment, and asked if the two could be related. She insisted not, and that the acne would most likely be hormonal; at the time, I went along with it. But now, when I look back, I can't think of anything else that could have caused it. I had hormone tests at the time, which came back normal, and although some people said it was having my son that started it, he was two before my acne appeared and I'd long finished breast-feeding. So however good IPL might be for treating some people's acne, I can honestly say that I think it actually started mine. I continued with the treatment for my hirsutism even after the acne appeared, and the spots didn't get any better. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone wanting to treat their acne. I wonder if the intense heat drastically dries out the skin, leading to the compensatory over-production of oils to re-moisturise it; this certainly seems to be where my skin has defaulted to for the last six years.

Pros:

Works at resolving mild to moderate inflammatory acne

Cheaper than other combination blue-red light therapy options

Cons:

Must use regularly

As other reviewers have said, this regimen works, but I couldn't get into the routine. I'm actually trying to sell mine because I really can't afford it as a periodic treatment, so if anyone else is interested, I have it listed on ebay at: [link removed]

Pros:

Cordless & rechargeable
No refills to buy like Zeno, which I use to spot treat.
Noticeable in about a week! but I'm using other stuff too, b/c I was scared to quit BP! (see below)
Cycles from blue to red after 5 min, so you don't have to time it...You can switch colors mid use with a push of a button if you want to change sooner or only use blue or red.
It really seemed to work after a week of use 20 min a day, 10 blue, 10 red, extra blue on severe areas!

Cons:

Expensive (like all acne treatments!)
Light therapy is kind of time consuming.
I wish the light covered a larger area of my face, so that I wouldn't have to wave it around.

So i'm 26 and just had the worst outbreak of my life, after quitting proactiv, which mostly worked, and switching to murad (leaving BP is a really bad idea if your skin is used to it!), I mean I went from one or two cysts per week max to, every pore being clogged on my jawline, which turned into 30 huge inflamed cysts! OMG it has been insane! I've been to the derm. and everything trying to recover since the beginning of June (now it's the end of July). So here's what I tried..Differin,Benzaclin,tetracylcine; together made me sick, more red, and not much better. I switched back to proactiv at the beginning of July. This seamed to clear up the small ones and made the larger ones smaller, but still lots of zits/redness/scars. I ordered ANSR at the beginning of July (Beam only...not the topicals, because they only contain salicylic acid...Dan's right, won't make that mistake again!) at the beginning of July. It seems like after just a few days of using it my face looked better. I've been using it a week and a half and I have no new cysts and most of the old ones are fading! I'm not sure that it would work alone...I think the research said that light therapy reduced acne by a large percentage, but not 100%. I think it might be a good boost when using BP! (I was never completely clear before) Note, after doing some research, study's say to use light (blue & red) 20 min. a day. I did this all at once b/c i don't have time in the morning. I didn't to this to my my whole face, only the severe areas, cheeks and jaw line. I did 5 min of blue then 5 red on one side, and then the other. I was desperate and held the blue an extra 5 min on patches that were really bad in hopes that it would clear faster. I wish I could have been more scientific and tested it separately, but when my face was freaking out and scarring badly, I just used everything that has been proven to work! After 2 weeks of ANSR beam, I have no new pimples at all, I hope the aftermath f

Cons:

horrible customer service

So I recently tried to buy this item from there website the process went smoothly I had no problem with that. The next day I checked my account and found they had charged me 2 times (I only wanted 1 item ) so I called them everyday for about a week and I kept getting crap messages saying to leave a message (I left about 20 messages) I also wrote them emails stating that the double charged me and I find it weird that I never received a confirmation email or anything. Theses people need to fix this problem .

Pros:

This is a truly amazing piece of equipment. I've only used it for 5 days and already I am noticing a major reduction in redness and my acne is beginning to fade.

Cons:

Expensive if it doesn't work for you.

Obviously, mixed reviews as to its ability to work with different people (I think they claim it works on 75% of people) Thankfully, I fall into that majority. It is definitely worth a shot and if it doesn't work, these are pretty sought after items on ebay.

Pros:

cleared up my skin within a few days of use. quiet! easy to use. at first I didn't feel like it was doing anything, after all it's just a light! But by the 3rd day I could see and feel a huge difference.

Cons:

nothing! this thing is awesome

This product is amazing. I've had acne for the past 7 years. The only times my skin has ever been clear was when I traveled to Hawaii for a week and was in the sun everyday -- it broke out again a couple weeks after I got back. And another time when I had surgery and was on an anti-biotic. After I finished the medicine it broke out about a week later. I also just started the regimen and my face has never looked better. I think the combo of the two is the FINAL solution!!! :-):-) Couldn't be happier.

Pros:

It cleared my skin up very quickly. Within a few days of using this product my exicsting breakouts were almost ompletely dried out.
Not really any side affects.

Cons:

can make e skin a little dry, but a some mosturizer does the trick. (Skin is also dry because of cold weather.)

I am really happy with this product. I have mild/moderate acne and occassionally flare. I recently had an allergic reaction to a mosturizer I used after having a mild peel. I had small bumps arund my mouth and other areas that I used the lotion. The dermatologist prescribed me a hydrocortisone, but I didn't want to go that route. Within one day of using this product (15 mins a day) the rash really began to clear up. I would reccomend this product to anyone it's definately worth a try.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
