Pros:

Cheap
Easy to swallow tablet (50mg)
Cleared up 90% of my acne in 3 weeks

Cons:

Causes stomach ache

I've used it for almost 3 weeks and the results are amazing! It dried up all my existing acne within the first week. I consistently had minor break outs everyday but ever since I took Doxy it seems to have reduced full sized pimple break outs to very very few minor white heads. On some days taking it makes me nauseous, but its a small price to pay for clearer skin after a decade of never ending stubborn facial acne.

Pros:

i think its working?

Cons:

still get the HUGE postulate (forgot what they're called) that scar if you dare to pop but are huge and stay on the skin and make you dont even wanna leave the house.

im on these 20mg pills and tazorac cream, so i never really know which one is the one thats working ya know? Im on the 20mg 2 times a day. the derm. says i dont need the full 100mg though i consider my acne severe, hahah so i usually take about 4 a day so i take about 80mg

Pros:

It works pretty good. Price is great depending on which Doxycycline you are prescribed.

Cons:

None worth complaining about

For those who say it upsets the stomach, my pharmacist says Doxycycline Monohydrate is more gentle on the stomach and I took 75MG twice a day of that and it didn't bother me a bit. That said, it cleared my face pretty well but the "backne" didn't fare as good. So I asked for 100MG twice a day. She changed my perscription to Doxycycline Hyclate (don't know why) which is a little harsher on the stomach but tollerable and I hope maybe all side effects will go away over time. That has helped the old "backne" to up the dose and the Doxycycline Hyclate is so much cheaper (try $32.98 retail price compared to $281.99 for the monohydrate! With insurance both are affordable though) that I think I'll try to stick it out. In my opinion, if you think it isn't working, maybe you need a stronger dosage before you give it up.

Pros:

Does work in time

Cons:

Takes a looooooooong time to work, and I don't like taking medication for a long time. Also gave me terrible, terrible nightmares, which is common.

If it starts to give you nightmares, switch.

Pros:

Works for the cystic acne on me. Mostly on the face and scalp. No major breakouts following initiation of the drug. Continued with Retin-A Micro and Aczone daily and Clinique Moisturizer Gel as well as Enzymatic Sulphur Soap. Use Clinique Make up.

Cons:

Massive sunburn for me even with SPF 70 quite frequently as well as shade....one day at the beach for 4 hours. Ouch.

Not for blackheads. Just pimples.

Pros:

It works well and i havent seemed to get a zit since ive been using it and for a little i was going through a stage where i was getting a zit a day. Here's my combo for treating my acne. 1. take a doxycycline. 2.moisturize. 3. benzoyl peroxide.5.slee

Cons:

uhhm people say you ge stomach ache's, but i havent really had any.

i would get it persribed to you by your doctor or derm. it seems to be working for me so far, not right a away this is my second day so obviously not right away especially since i use benzoyl peroxide, it dries up my skin, but the pharmacist says it takes 7-10 days to work and i have a 3 month supply, so imma be taking it until my forehead acne goes away its the worst in my opinion because i hate those little bumps on my forhead and is noticeable. so for all my forhead acne getters hang in there im 16 and just experiencing and its changing my life, i really dont want to do anything out dorrs anymore. have hope, drink a lot of water and take doxycycline i guess is my advice.

Pros:

Dries face very quickly, you will see results fast!

Cons:

Eat before you take it, if you don't you will be vomiting all day, I learned the hard way! Also where an SPF 70 or higher while on the beach or you will burn!

Aside from the side effects it gets the job done.

Pros:

face cleared up a it, but my back still continnues to break out bad

Cons:

stomach pain......eh, and nausea,intense sunburns

I've used this medicine for a couple of months. my skin cleared up a bit, but not as good as i would like. i think im going to try to switch to birth control or something else. its not worth the stomach problems anymore.

Pros:

Cleared up skin, reduced redness

Cons:

If you miss a day your acne comes back. Makes your skin sensitive to sunlight but basically all acne medications do that.

You have to wait a few weeks to see results (remember its working from the inside layers of your skin out). At first it might make your acne worse...but that doesn't mean it wont eventually work . If your stomach hurts after taking it then try eating a few crackers after swallowing it...it helps a lot.

Pros:

Works well - I had no side effects - no dry skin nothing!
I find it great

Cons:

Unfortunately for me it keeps persisting on coming back after a month or two of finishing my prescription. But while im using it its clear as

Patience needed! the first time I ever used it, it took a while for iy to wrk. The next time I used it, the result was almost instant. I have previously had one full course of roaccutane which was briliant but after about 12months I noticed small breakouts (no where near what it used to be ) so I usen this to keep minor problems under control. I strongly reccommend Roaccutane for those with severe acne, I truly believe that this is the best and quickest way and will reduce chances of getting scarring. Doxycycline is great - but only for those with mild acne! If in doubt - go see a dermatologist - its worth it!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
