Pros:

-Not costly
- Clears most deep acne
- Cleared about 1/2 of my blackheads & whiteheads
- My face is a lot smoother after 3 months
- Works well with Differin
- I have only been having few acne break outs, they usually go away after a day
- Does not dry out your skin (just saying this because I know Accutane does)

Cons:

- Had stomach aches for first week of using this product
- Acne does not clear over night, I saw little results after a month 1/2. Patience is key
- You need to take this medicine on a schedule
- I still have some acne coming up, it hasn't stopped breakout yet, but it is so much better than it was 3 months ago
- Does not clear up scars

*Keep in mind that I have been using this for only 3 1/2 months, and you are supposed to use this for 6 months or more* I started using this around January, I had low hopes for it but I didn't want to start using Accutane just yet. After a month my acne got a little worse, but two weeks after that most of my breakouts were gone. My problem areas were around my cheek which consisted of mainly deep acne, and around my chin which was mostly whiteheads and blackheads. It took about two months for this medicine to clear around 50% of my white&blackheads but the results are good so far. My dermatologist told me to take this twice a day at separate times, but I took both pills at night right before I went to bed with a glass of water. Don't take it right before or right after eating because you will get really bad stomach pains. I went to my dermatologist not to long ago and I'm going to stop this medicine and go on Accutane. For me this isn't working fast enough and there is no guarantee that it will keep my acne away forever, but with Accutane I can be more confident that my acne will go away forever. If your acne isn't that bad, and you're willing to wait about 6 weeks to start to see results then by all means get this! It's a lot easier and hassle free than trying to get Accutane (believe me!) If it's your first time going to the dermatologist ask him/her if you could try some antibiotics. I got put on tropical creams for about 6 weeks before going on this and let me just tell you that the creams don't work! Save your money and just ask them about antibiotics. I wish I just skipped that step and tried antibiotics because they really do work, you just need a little patience.

Pros:

Read Bottom Line

Cons:

Nothing really

Just a short sum up, I have being on this medication about 5/6 months and it works wonders 90% of the time and keeps my skin pretty much clear besides the odd spot however I am sick of its occasional ability to loose control for a week or so... I have decided to go onto Roaccutane and hopefully get rid of the left over acne once and for all But seriously, doxy is a GREAT product it has been a life saver the last 6 months of my life definately recommend it! Easy to take, no side affects experienced!! DO IT! haha

Pros:

Cheap, Works (So far..)

Cons:

Requires planning ahead (eating)

So I've been takin this for a week and a half now and my face went from 9 pimples to 2...I think it speaks for itself right there but let's keep going. I take it 7:35 AM and 7:35 PM (2x a day) also added with benzoyl 5.25% face wash in morning and Ziana Gel at night. The routine I have is a bit much, however, it has been worth it, my confidence I had in high school (When I had a clear face) is coming back. The Pill I think is doing most of the work because I skipped a night just to test it and I grew a pimple the next day. Take the pill WITH NO FOOD. That's how I take it. I don't see where people are throwing up the pill, I keep it down easily (I only get sick a minute then it goes away) To do this, Drink 9-10 oz of water, refill cup with another 9-10 oz of water, take pill and drink the water. The more you drink, the easier to keep the pill down. Now I only worry about what happens when the course ends, I've read that problems just come back anyway so I don't know why this is prescribed, whatever..

Hey guys, Been on doxy and different about 4-5 months now and this stuff is working great About the 3.5 month mark 95% of my acne has cleared and it has stayed that way since, I get little break outs here and there but thats normal and its nothing like before. Before = massive clusters of gross double/triple headed painful red and noticeble pimples everywhere (mainly cheeks). Now (as I am writing this) = one/two little under the jawline and one or two on the face...no more acne, just pimples :D So yeah sometimes it gets a little worse but I just remember that I am looking at my face super close in the mirror with a light, so I just stand back and look from other peoples perspective and walah I hardly notice it..besides I have also come to terms that noone else notices it! I got really down and depressed with my acne but WHY, I am feeling great now I just hope this stuff keeps working Oh and, I drank whilst on doxy, which is apprently okay, the first time in 4 months (got drunk so easy haha) and my skin never got worse like in the past yipeee!! Good luck guys :D

Pros:

none

Cons:

- had no effect
- rectal bleeding

During the past year I decided to visit a dermatologist to help me with my acne. The first course of treatment I was put on was the pill doryx and the lotion Acanya. This comination did absoultely nothing for me except give me drops of blood in the toilet when deficating. I would not recommend this to anyone trying to treat acne based on my experience.

Pros:

good skin, acne seemed to heal overnight,

Cons:

nausea, stomach cramps, slight oral thrush infection, occasionally had heartburn, slight dryness.

I really enjoyed using Doxy, it seemed to work immediately with only just one pill every morning but im now afraid that because ive just come to the end of my 3 month course, that it will become worse once again. i do not know whether it will permanently help my acne, my gut feeling is that it was a short term option as i think my body was beginning to build a resistance to the antibiotic, in effect the drug had become less effective. I'm hoping the contraceptive pill i am on will help :) wish me luck eek.

Pros:

Its works well on cyst acne.

Cons:

Cause irritating throat but that's only because I wasn't taking it with enough water. Makes you nauseous sometimes.

Ive been taking this with BP for about 2 weeks now. My acne flared up about the end of the 1st week. I was glad because I was on vacation. This week my acne has got a lot better but I have a couple of scars. Just make sure to keep a healthy diet to prevent breakouts.

Pros:

Nothing

Cons:

Yeast infections. Doesn't work on back/chest acne. Long term antibiotic intake makes the bacteria stronger and more resistant which means horrible relapse after you stop.

I took it originally for my back. Absolutely nothing happened. When I stopped it , I think my face broke out (I had a clear face with occasional pimple or two)... My face won't go back to normal (a year) .... My back is still breaking out as it used to... It doesn't do anything. Wish I didn't waste the time or the hopes on it. It was covered by insurance though. Maybe it will work for some people but it didn't for me. I'm going on accutane now...

Pros:

only product that cleared me up with minimal effort (JUST TAKE THE PILL)

Cons:

Can't drink alcohol on the pill.

If you're having trouble controlling acne with topical treatments, I'd suggest bumping up to an oral antibiotic. The strength is far superior and it'll most likely clear you up.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
