Pros:

I only have been using it for 16 days and I have noticed some improvement. I was put on just Tazaroc over two and a half months ago and it was helping but not quick and efficient enough for me.

Cons:

none so far

I went back to my derm and she put me on doxycycline along with Tazorac. Within the past 2 weeks I have seen an improvement but I make sure i put on Cetephil cream after applying my Tazorac at night. If you do not apply a moisturizer you will peel and be really red and dry. Im hoping after a month this stuff really kicks in!!

Pros:

does not make acne worse before it gets better,
helps skin clear up pretty fast

Cons:

upsets stomach

I have been using doxycycline along with a topical clindamycin for a little under two weeks and i am already seeing a lot of imrovement. It definatley reduces the size of your pimples and the number of ones you have. It is no miracle product but it hs definatley helped out a lot

Pros:

Cheap, easy to ingest,

Cons:

Nauseating if you don't eat a meal with the pill.

Don't take with dairy or minerals because they will decrease the absorbtion of doxycline into your body. Overall, my face got worse during the first two weeks. Now it's the third week and im seeing some improvement. Less inflamation, and the bigger zits are faded and not as irritated.

Pros:

start seeing results in about a week or slightly more... easy to swallow and works pretty well at getting all the bacteria under your skin that can become a pimple out.

Cons:

doesnt work as fast as you would probably want it, if your young you need to take it with a meal or it can cause liver damage. Also its not like this 4 everyone but 4 me, it got worse before it got better. Using this alone without cleansers isnt good

use it but make sure you use topical products with it or wont work that well if not at all.

Pros:

Starts to work after 3-6 weeks, cleared up my cystic acne

Cons:

Nausea if not taken with a meal snack. I have also noticed my skin itches a lot despite moisturizing. I also get frequent diarrhea/soft stool.

Always take with a meal. If you don't mind the minor side effects it will work really well.

Pros:

Started to work immediately! Clearing started within a couple days of starting the pills.

Cons:

Tough on the tummy! Absolutely have to take with food or you will vomit

I've suffered with roseca/ cystic acne for 3 years, i've tried everything. As a last resort I went to my Dr insisting on Accutane, she convinced me to give this a shot first. I'm very pleased, it's been three weeks and no more bumps and swelling. However my skin is still flushed red in the healing process. Hopefully that will clear as well.

Pros:

Really cheap, works well, easy to find

Cons:

Dry skin, once you stop taking it your skin goes back to the way it was

I took it for about three months earlier this year and, besides having dry skin and lips (which is easily fixable), it worked really well to clear up the skin on my face and chest (though I still had a few pimples on my back.) When I moved, I had to go to a new pharmacist and it's been taking a while for them to get the prescription, so my skin has gone back to BAD. As long as you keep taking it daily with lots of water, your skin will clear up a lot :)

Pros:

good for mild acne, costs next to nothing

Cons:

nausea, long-term resistance and decreased effectiveness

Use this ONLY if you have mild acne [5 active spots?]. For SEVERE sufferers [7 or more? 3 popping up each day?] I suggest, go straight to RoAccutane. Or else, it's not worth it - you risk getting leaky gut, thrush, and when the time comes when you're infected with a stubborn flu once you get off the antibiotics, you'll just have to get even stronger antibiotics. I've used it for over a year, then switched to RoAccutane; we'll see how it goes. Meantime, don't let e derm waste ur time and cause more harm to your body if you really think it's not gonna work for you - trust your logics, some jaded derm's algo thinking might not always work out.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
