Pros:

We will see!!

Cons:

Just 2 times ate the tablet n had to go to bathroom :)after

I have had pimples since i was 13, got bad case when i was 20,but it stopped n then I got a few everymonth before my period, n now im 26 and have had severe acne from 1,5 months ago.Got depressed I live in indonesia but now visiting Spain, i've been seeing different Derm in Indo but never really had clear face, n no one really gave me oral tablet, but tons of creams guess they just trying to sell their product!!! Went to see Derm here yesterday, n He gave me Doxy 100 mg once a day.Duac gel, ducray facial wash, Avene diacnel, Ducray keracnyl He heavily suggested that i see Gynocolog - suggested that acne could be caused by infection inside my body. So watch this space, i'll report in a couple of week..

Pros:

worked well. i saw improvements within a few weeks. i was using this along with the topical erythromycin. i think the combination together did it for me.

Cons:

i would get sick to my stomach b/c it had to be taken on an empty stomach. i would throw up sometimes (just water). i would have to eat crackers or something light to make the feeling go away.

it works well. if you can handle taking it w/o food and not feeling sick, more power to you. on the downside: i had to stop taking it b/c i was trying to get pregnant. about after a month of stopping the pills, i had the most horrible breakouts of my life. (i'm 27 and have had acne for more than 15 yrs). the pimples were so horrible and huge, and hurt terribly. i skin became so much more worse than before i had taken the pills. my doctor said to just wait it out. i waited it out for about 2 months, but could no longer handle the pain. now, i've been using rodan and fields unblemish for 2 months and it's working great. after about 2 wks my breakouts had subsided.

Pros:

slowwwwww, may not even work for my type of acne

Cons:

takes too long to make a SLIGHT improvement if at all

I have had acne terribly ever since I was 16, I am 28 now. The ONLY thing that has worked for me is Accutane. It is very very strong though, during the first few days I took it I woke up itching everywhere and it dries out your face real bad, ESPECIALLY your lips, your lips will look and feel different. BUT IT WORKS EXTREMELY WELL, after 1 month of taking a pill every day you will see a HUGE difference. The government has tightened up restrictions on taking the drug, you have to get a blood test every month. Talk to your doctor about it, but if you have bad acne as I do that is the only thing your body will respond to, you have to fight tough with tough. Your doctor will put you on a 5 month treatment but the drug is so powerful I stopped after 1 month and now he doesn't want to prescribe it back to me, he gave me Doxycycline which does nothing for my acne. I actually argued with him and told him I wasn't ever coming back because he just wants me to keep paying the $40 copay for a medi

Pros:

In combination with Duac, almost completely cleared up my acne. You're supposed to take it with food, but it doesn't even bother me if I don't. No side effects so far.

Cons:

For one, it's an oral antibiotic, which is unsustainable for many reasons. It can seriously mess up your stomach, and cause resistant bacteria.

For two, it didn't work until I started using Duac too.

I take doxycycline 50mg/day. It didn't start to work until I began using Duac. So I can't be sure that the doxycycline is doing any of the work. The price I paid is a subsidised price, since I live in New Zealand. It may be astronomically more expensive in the States.

Pros:

15 yr old son is taking 75 mg 1xday- 2 weeks now. Face and back really looking good. No side effects yet. Although is is winter - not alot of sun.

Cons:

I am concerned about extrinsic staining of his teeth. Was told he would not have this problem because of his age. But I did a search on the internet and saw a few cases of teeth staining in adults. Will be discussing this with our dentist.

Seems to be working great. In combination with Benzaclin and Tazorac. Worried about teeth staining with long term use. Check with your Dentist prior to use.

Pros:

I definately like it. I've been using it for 3 months and had to ask my derm to represcribe it because it was working. when I lowered the dosage though my skin broke out again.

Cons:

It does upset my stomach like everyone else when I take it on a completely empty stomach. Even though that's exactly what my prescription says to do. Since it's winter I haven't experienced the sun burn others mention.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with doxycline. It's helped alot.

Pros:

Clearer Skin

Cons:

It toog ages

Ive used these capsules for about 3 months now..I must say my skin looks much better and softer and it reduced all the spots and bumps. I take a 50 MG capsule one a day but I see people here that take a 100 mg capsule twice a day, could it be harmful if I take 50 mg twice a day?
December 25, 2007

Pros:

it was OK, made my acne reduce alot in size/shape and pimples were reduced in like a week. my acne areas don't hurt anymore and in general look MUCH HEALTHIER after taking this medication. my skin didn't dry out at all. it was more smooth than ever :

Cons:

take these on an empty stomach and you'll probably be vomiting like i did

go to your doctor and ask for a prescription. it's worth it coz you won't risk: - more acne scarring (eg. those irreversible ICE PICK scars, yuck?) - ur skin looks healthier and doesn't hurt to touch - don't need to waste more money on 'acne skincare regimens' etc etc. proactive, clearasil costs heaps - skin easier to manage *GET THIS. i didn't regret it..*

Pros:

It seemed to clear up about 60% of my acne. I reduced the surface pimples and also had less of the big red ones.

Cons:

It didnt get rid of everything, and I still got the very incomspicuous big red ones every once in a while.

I still break out about once every three weeks. I think this could work if my skin were a little different.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
