Pros:

less cysts, slows the acne process

Cons:

works moderately well, don't expect this to be the cure for acne, it merely suppresses it, and doesn't exactly get rid of acne completely.

i've been taking the antibiotics this with retin-a micro. I fully regret it all. but because this is a review for doxycycline i will say that it definitely works, but its just not something you can keep taking for the rest of your life (at least to me it just doesn't seem right) If you guys want to slow down your acne, its good, but don't expect any cures, or a completely clear skin.... I dont know what it was but after i started this regime (retin-a & doxy) my skin has been so ridiculously oily, it is the worst my skin has ever freaking been... I recently stopped using doxycycline and i'm starting to get these random cyst (not a lot just a few) around my jaw line and neck, body acne is kind of increasing again i am now considering accutane

Pros:

No side affects as long as you take it with food. I think the antibiotic is bringing all the bacteria to the surface.

Cons:

No cons.

I've been on Doxycycline for almost 6 weeks now and i've hardly noticed any improvement at all. I am only on a 50mg dosage once a day and i want to increase it but i doubt my doctor would approve this. I only have acne on my face, everywhere else i have perfect skin. I don't understand! I will just continue to take doxy untill the end of my treatment and then i will probably have to go on accutane or something. I just want clear skin because i'm going on a holiday soon and i deserve it! Wish me luck for my next 1 and 1/2 months. :)

Pros:

Works quite well since the results is observable. Less oily and lessen the acne that popped out.

Cons:

Stomach felt very painful if the pills are taken on empty stomach. I've even experienced acidic stomach and had to consult the doctor to prescribe me with the suitable medicine. All of that happened just because I slept right after taking the pill.

It works but follow the rules of eating it. Or else, you'll experience this damn painful stomach stress.

Pros:

Noticed results on second day of use. Skin isn't as oily, no new whiteheads appeared by the time I wake up, scarring has decreased, redness around my cheeks and under the eyes have decreased, skin tone is more even. Less dryness and irritation.

Cons:

Stomach has felt a little strange. It's not a problem and drinking water or having a little food seems to help. I've also started drinking more water and that's something else my body is getting used to.

The first week has been great. Clear difference in 48 hours. Not only is that still the case, the overall condition is improving daily. I've had acne since I was 13. I'm almost 24. All that time I have suffered and it's really knocked my confidence. Even now, even though I can honestly say for the first time in several years that I'm starting to feel a little happy about my skin, I still don't feel confident. No doubt the acne has left some mental scars in that respect, and in the long term I pretty much lost all my social circle through lack of confidence - I hardly ever went out! But, as the condition of my skin improves, so should my confidence, along with my happiness and my social circle. It's early days, but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens thanks the results of the medication.

Pros:

I made a post previously, and now that I have been on it for to months I decided to post again!
-Great!! It has made a big difference! I suggest you to persist witht he treatment until atleast two months! I nearly gave up at one stage

Cons:

Takes a while to see results...but it was worth it! For me anyway.
Initially my skin was very dry and sore and red...but now is glowing and acne free. I cant believe the difference!

I went back to my doctor after a month as my face was peeling and red and sore and dry...and I had big pimples coming through. She told me to continue for another month at least. I did...and two months after I started my skin is incredible! I was very diheartened at the beggining...but follow your doctors advice and hopefully you will see a difference too.

Pros:

Cleared up acne significantly, and is continuing to clear it up, I just have to wait for awhile til all my active acne is gone.

Cons:

I haven't had any stomach pains or felt sick, but get the occasional mood swing (nothing I can't handle)...

I'm using it with Differin and it is helping significantly. I had massive cysts ALL over my chin and cheeks (I couldn't even open my mouth without extreme pain) and nodules all over my forehead and cheeks. 5 weeks and my skin is healing a lot. Only a few pimples around my cheeks, few on my forehead (which heal very fast), no more cysts at all! I wish I went on this 2 years ago when I had another severe acne attack (I just had 2 topical creams for that and it cleared up in 6 or 7 months). I just need to find something to fade the red marks a bit quicker...

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
