Pros:

Cleared up back acne within a few days. Notice my facial skin is clearing a bit up as well.

Cons:

a little bit of an upset stomach. I could see this getting pricey.

Was skeptical but worked much better than i imagined. Just a bit worried reading some of the other reviews here about breaking out once you stop taking though

Pros:

Really reduced the amount of acne on my back and chest

Cons:

Hasn't done much for my face yet

I've been using doxycycline for 2 months now and the only difference it has made for me is reducing my back and chest acne. Unfortunately my face is still getting loads of breakouts. I wonder why?

Pros:

SEEMS TO NOT LET PIMPLES OR CYSTIC PIMPLES GO CRAZY LIKE BEFORE. CHEAP, AND NOT HARD ON MY STOMACH

Cons:

DOESN'T GET RID OF EVERYTHING. MORE SMALL BLACK HEADS AND WHITE HEADS. BUT ITS BETTER THAN BEFORE.

THIS PRODUCT SEEMS TO BE WORKING SO FAR. KEEPS EVERYTHING ALOT LESS IRRITATED. I GET HUGE CYSTIC ACNE ON MY CHIN MAINLY. SINCE I HAVE TAKEN THIS IT HAS CUT THE NUMBER I GET BY 3/4. MY FACE IS ALITTLE BUMPIER THAN NORMAL . BUT AT LEAST IT IS NOT AS BAD AS IT WAS.

Pros:

Cleared up most of my pimples in a two weeks.
Only one a day, 100mg.

Cons:

Everyday except one I've had stomach issues, your basic diarrhea. The only day I didn't have watery stools the day after I had brown rice. Perhaps brown rice is the key.

It works but great it is a trade off with stomach issues. I take probiotics and still get rrhea. Doryx is supposed to better on the stomach than Monodox but its only slightly. I don't like that a possible side effect is darkening of your teeth --I'll monitor that closely as that's a trade off I do not want. I tried this after the natural route which didn't work for me.

Pros:

seems to have cleared my skin

Cons:

Horribly expensive
makes stomach sick

I was given Rx for Doryx, filled at pharmacy and was told it was $ 250.00. ( My insurance covered $100.00) so I had to pay difference. I can't imagine that this is better than normal doxycycline. Why not put me on something else? I do see results though. It has been 1 week. and Im burning in the sun and itching alot. too $$$

Pros:

Clears up your acne when u first start taking it for a couple of weeks. Easy to take.

Cons:

Doesn't completely clear up acne and acne comes back after a few months. When going off it acne becomes worse. Skin becomes extremely sensitive to the sun and looks unhealthy.

Good for a couple of weeks but not worth taking in the long run.

Pros:

It doesn't make me as sick as Minocycline did.

Cons:

I have never broke out as bad as I have in the past 11 days that I have been using this product. It has given me acne that I never had before! I have had mild/severe acne for over a year now and this medicine has made it so bad I do not want to go ou

I would not get my hopes up if you are looking for a cure for mild/severe acne.

Pros:

Worked ok. alot better than erithromysin (clearly not how you spell it but i dont really care)

Cons:

None what so ever. Cant belive some people would say they had side affects as its not xactly the strongest of anti biotics. well suppose everyones diffrent :-D !

I have been takeing doxycycline on and off for alomost 2 years. its not the best and im waiting on a dermotologist apointment. but for now it works alright and if i was to stop taking the treatment you would notice a change. (as in i would have more spots). Nhss :-D I didnt pay for it as i am only 15 <3.

Pros:

Will help to clear up mild forms of acne or acne that is not very persistent. For me,it was most effective as a preventative measure. It cleared up some of my acne and kept the left side of my face clear. Also, gives skin a beautiful, sandy texture.

Cons:

Doesn't necessarily clear your skin, especially if you have persistent and/or severe acne. Only works on the bacteria part of breakouts leaving oily skin to fend for itself. Also, it will make you nauseous. I would take it after dinner.

If you have stubborn acne, don't get your hopes up. It will help somewhat, but in no way will it totally clear you up. For those of you who escape hardcore acne and simply have some flare-ups, this will definitely do the job for you. Also, as I mentioned above, it really does make the texture/color of your skin look beautiful. Though I still have breakouts on the right side of my face and forehead, the left side looks absolutely fantastic.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
