Pros:

They let me return it!

Cons:

The benzoyl peroxide

I found out the hard way that I am allergic to benzoyl peroxide. The first time I used this product, I really like the way it made my skin feel... it felt really clean. It burned a little, but I thought that was normal. The next day, I woke up with a horrible, horrible rash all over my face. I had a billion bumps on my forehead, cheeks, chin, everywhere. So, if you are the least bit sensitive to the BP, I don't recommend this product. My friend uses it and it works wonders for her... but it's definitely not for everybody!!!

Pros:

the cream goes on easy and absorbs into the skin without too much of that ridiculous clowny white film left behind.

Cons:

dries out the skin like crazy and smells horrible

i've been using the product for about a week and have noticed some slight improvements here and there.my skin is actually super oily and so the cream dries up the oily look to some extent.the only down side is that the drying effect seems to work a little too well,to the point that the skin has started cracking and peeling off,not to mention the look of cherry tomato!!the main thing to remember is to moisturize!!! drying skin could make acne worse since the sebaceous glands tend to produce more oils to compensate.skin types are different so give it a shot and hope for the best

Pros:

Works rather well! I can see results overnight.

Cons:

Drys out your skin, and burns your face with water hits it (is this only me?)

DO NOT USE if you have sensitive skin unless you are that damn desperate.

Pros:

It cleans your face

Cons:

Pricey, Time consuming, Iritating, Harsh on skin, Doesnt clear acne

I have been using proactiv for about 3 years now and it seemed like every time i missed washing i would break out. Soon my face was again covered with acne and scars. My frieind told me to stop using it because she said it just makes things worse, and sure enough, now that i am using just a regular body wash to wash my face, my skin has cleared immensley. Dont fall for their scam, waste of time and money.

Pros:

Great cleanser, that really made a difference to my skin! Cheap compared to Proactiv. The ONLY BP cleanser on the Australian market worth buying.

Cons:

Side effects of BP, which are easily controlled.

This is a great cleanser, and since I bought it last time they've changed the formulation, yay! The first time I bought Benzac AC it was a watery liquid with a few grains in it, now it's a creamy cleanser with no exfoliating grains in it, which makes it much more agreeable to the skin. Still, the 5% can be difficult to tolerate if you have sensitive skin so I've mixed it half and half with my Paula's Choice cleanser (a line I highly recommend too, BTW). The difference to my skin was almost immediate. Highly recommended.

Pros:

Umm... They send it to you? Works. Moisturiser is actually a really great product!

Cons:

Fragrance, initial irritation, directions for cleanser are just plain WRONG, joining the "club". If your skin can handle it, Benzoyl Peroxide really does work, but there's no need to buy Proactiv unless you're too lazy to do some research.

I've just canceled my subscription to Proactiv, not because it doesn't work, it's just you can get similar products without the ongoing credit card charges, that are less irritating, for less money. Cleanser - do not follow the directions!! This will irritate your skin. 30 seconds max! Using a BP cleanser has made a MASSIVE difference to my skin, but I knew that even before I bought Proactiv. Toner - contains an AHA, this is actually a good alcohol free toner, but the fragrance is really unnecessary. After this, I will actually add an AHA to my skincare routine. "Repairing" Lotion - a straight up 2.5% strength BP preparation, nothing special about this. In fact, if you have reasonably bad skin (like me), 2.5% isn't really strong enough and won't make much of a difference. Mask - OK product, if you break out when using masks, avoid them altogether. Better ingredients than Sulfur. Moisturiser - I actually highly recommend this! My skin looks great for the first time in two decades!!!!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
