May work for some, but it is definitely not for everyone, especially since it is overpriced
I am 35 and have had acne my whole life, but have suffered from pretty significant adult acne for about 3 years. I tried so many things, from pills from the doctor to ProActiv. Then I heard about Rodan and Fields Unblemish, and was hesitant due to the price. One day I decided to go for it. It was a slow process, my skin slightly improved, and then I started getting tons of awful blackheads, which is something I have never had to deal with. The Rodan and Fields completely stopped working about 3 months into the regimen, and I am very unhappy with the results. If you are going to try this, I would recommend looking for a sulfur wash (which is available on Amazon), and using benzyl peroxide 5.0%, and a toner from elsewhere. It is very expensive, and was not at all worth my money. I know some people have had a lot of success with this product, but it was certainly not for me. I also have another friend who had the same experience, and even got blackheads like I did.

super disappointed.
the only time i had EVER gotten breakouts was of course, that time of the month ... until i started using proactive, i figured at first that it was just cleaning my skin.. bringing the dirt to the surface and that was just the start of the product... it wasnt! i used this product religiously, and it continuously dried my skin out (especially my t-zone) AND the breakouts continued, it took a couple months to get my skin back on track (re-hydrated and to stop breaking out) i guess my skin just didn't react properly with this product, but it isn't something i would re-purchase. i spent a good 60 dollars on this and i'm super disappointed. the ONE product i liked, and only liked it because it was zapping the pimples away was the refining mask. that's something you could buy on it's own and it would work just fine. now back to the bad...the micro beads don't go into your skin and clean it out, it's almost like it glides over top.... like sandpaper. i believed to helped minimize the pimple but in the absolute wrong way! it seemed to be prone to give acne scarring because of the fact it wasn't getting rid of the pimple the proper way, just "sandpaper-ing" it away.

Blow over this and find another product.
I didn't have any breakouts until I used this. It is very strong and full of peroxide. It dried my skin when used as directed. It seems like a product that tries to make your skin addicted to using it, which is a losing battle I don't want to start. If you bought it and want to use, I suggest using less than what is recommended. I'm using smaller than a pea size, but I can feel a build of weird oils in my skin that I have never felt before and I developed bumps and broke out immediately after one use. This stuff is terrible.

My face got worst
I did tons of research on this product before I used it and i was super excited to try it so I purchased it at target because I didn't want to wait for shipping. I took daily pics of my face and my face for 5 days has gotten worst I went from minor pimples on my forehead to numerous cyst like bumps on my cheeks and along my jaw bone. I am very disappointed...

If you have more severe acne, the product may be making your face "purge." Acne that lies under the skin doesn't heal itself over the course of a few days. A good acne treatment can make skin better before it gets worse. I would stick with it, as long as it isn't causing an allergic reaction. Even the best skin care needs time to work.

I'm 48 and look like 38...thanks to Proactive
When my daughter started using Proactiv it cleared up her skin in only two days. She needed to use it less and less frequently over the next three years until she left for college which is when she stopped. When the new supply of proactive arrived in the mail I decided to use it instead of wasting it. I am 48 years old and my skin has never looked better. The people I work with at my new job all thought I was in my thirties. I love it! Also, I only use Proactiv 3 or 4 times a week and I never had a problem delaying a shipment for two or three months since I had plenty left.

do not recommend
I bought this product, and I also ordered the body scrub, and the scrubber tool (don't know the name of it) and it showed up about a week later, and only the face wash and the body scrub came. so I paid extra for something that didn't even show up. I am 15 years old and once I used it, I have about a couple of pimples, but pretty much my face was clear. but after I used X out for about a week, my face was broken out.. I stopped using this product and now my face if clearing back up a little bit. but not how it was before. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

5 stars!!!
This stuff is the first acne treatment that has ever worked for me. I've been on antibiotics for 8 years, Bactrim, doxycycline, monocycline, tried proactive, over the counter facewash, prescription acne cream, nothing worked. I was so sure this wouldn't work, but nothing else was working and my acne was getting worse at 25, until my boyfriend said it had helped his friend. It is super expensive but honestly it the clearest my face has been since I was like 15, so it's worth it to me.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH PROACTIVE!
A NO STAR RATING IF POSSIBLE! I PLACED A ONE TIME ORDER TO PROACTIVE AND PAID MY BILL VIA CREDIT CARD. IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS I RECEIVED ANOTHER SHIPMENT THAT I DID NOT ORDER. WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION, PROACTIVE CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD FOR A PRODUCT I DID NOT WANT OR ORDER. I PROMPTLY RETURNED THEIR PRODUCT AND REQUESTED MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY TO REVERSE THE CHARGES THAT I DID NOT AUTHORIZE. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF REPEATED UNAUTHORIZED CREDIT CARD CHARGES BY PROACTIVE, I EVENTUALLY HAD TO CANCEL MY CREDIT CARD TO ELIMINATE FUTURE UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES. 6 MONTHS LATER I CONTINUE TO RECEIVE BILLS FROM PROACTIVE THREATENING ME TO PAY MY BILL OR THEY WILL SEND MY ACCOUNT TO COLLECTIONS. PROACTIVE HAS UNSCRUPULIOUS BUSINESS PRACTICES. DO NOT GIVE PROACTIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
