Pros:

it's reaally a great product, and honestly, my skin has never been this clear... even my blackheads are gone...

Cons:

it will really just take some time to clear skin, but it really does clear skin...

my pimples were gone after about 3 weeks, and now i'm on my 4th month, my skin just keeps getting better...

Pros:

I think it probably actually works for people.

Cons:

Lots! You get a dependency on it, it gets expensive, and all those chemicals cannot be healthy for your skin in the long run.

Treatments like Accutane and Proactiv are very controversial because they work dramatically for many people, but not without a cost or side effect. Personally, I could only use Proactiv for a day and when I went to get my eyebrows done at a salon which happens to also be a skincare center they warned me about the damage they could see to my skin from just one usage of Proactiv, and they gave me a BPO combo cream and a Vitamin C balm and I finally healed. I'm scared of Proactiv because I think it causes you to get a dependency and then you have to keep paying for it and using it forever. It's almost like a drug that way. Well, I guess it is a drug. I understand about desperation but the sales rep even told me it takes six weeks to start working! What about people with proms and weddings coming up?? Makeup cannot hide raised blemishes well. I'm a fan of the natural route, so I use lemon juice as a drink AND topically, plus a burdock root compound and the BPO cream/vitamin C balm.

Pros:

Leaves skin feeling clean

Cons:

It made my skin worse. Be warned guys, this product does not work for a considerable percentage of people that use it. I doubt how genuine the celebrity endorsements are.

As soon as I started using the 4-step system my skin broke out worse than it ever has before. I saw the signs and stopped using it before any more damage was done. Now I am getting microdermabrasion at a medi-spa along with using neutrogena products to repair the damage. I am seeing great results and my skin is almost clear. Going down this road is expensive though but health and well-being is important. Proactiv might work for you but be careful of ending up like many people, worse off than before they used it.

Pros:

Clears skin in a few days, usually... I have mild acne, but ALOT of blackheads on my nose and chin.. :[ I don't know if Proactiv's going to work for it, but I'll try it longer..

Cons:

A few years ago I used proactiv, but stopped because it started to look like my cheeks were burned or something..sort of like sunburnt, but I never go outside. I eventually started using it again (a week ago), and I'm already seeing good results.

Don't listen to everyone who dogs this system, I happen to think if you want to try it, TRY IT. If your acne's bad, it can only get better.

Pros:

removed some of my acne

Cons:

after about of month, it made my face burn constantly

i have sensitive skin, and this was horrible. for about the first month, it was great. a lot of my acne went away. but then for the last week, my face was burning uncontrollably. it made my face dry out. my eyes got puffy, and it felt like pins and needles were being put in my face. i kno it wasnt an allergic reaction cuz it was fine for a month! ill be trying something new immediatly. dont buy it. especially if u have senstive skin!

Pros:

This stuff is great! It's the only thing that has had any sort of affect on my acne. It doesn't clear completely, but it definately keeps my zits under control and my skin smooth. I definately notice a difference the moment I stop using it.

Cons:

It really dries out your skin! Also, I've noticed that the first few days of usage results in "beneath-the-skin cysts," for lack of a better word, which can be annoying and painful, but disappear after a while. It is also pretty expensive.

Great product, but dries out skin, so use with moisturizer!

Pros:

clears most acne

Cons:

none

For me, it firsts brings out my pimples, and then gets rid of them. I love it and it works. I would defiantely recommend it and it is cheap.

Pros:

amazing results. The BP by itself just wasn't doing it, put the medicine is absolutely wonderful, and my skin looks less blotchy and feels great too!

Cons:

Although the persistent acne on my cheeks is gone, I now have a nickel sized patch of acne between my eyebrows (like when I was a teen).

I think if you have hormonal problems causing acne (severe stress counts) then this is a fantastic solution for that, tackling the problem inside and out.

Pros:

Makes pimples go away quickly.
Nice Smell
Better than Proactive

Cons:

For some people this can make them very irritated or have dry skin

This really does work, just give it some time and you should be pretty clear , without it my face would be a warzone. The only problem is that I run out fast.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
