Pros:

clears about 50% of acne that is present

Cons:

leaves skin dry after continual use

acne will continue to form

annoying to use every day and night

if not used for only one day your face may break out

proactiv commercials exaggerate the sucess in clearing acne when using the product

The cons outweigh the pros 5 to 1 (although the pro i listed could very easily be viewed as a con). I think that this is a worthless product considering that you wont be able to completely get rid of your acne while spending a long time applying the product when the results arent up to expectations. I am thinking about using accutane or acnepril due to my non-succesful experience with proactiv. If anyone can help me make a decision to use acnepril or accutane please help me make the decision between the two. Also if anyone has knowledge of any other product that will clear my acne completely and clear my acne forever

Pros:

I'm a 35 year old guy who has suffered with persistant mild facial acne for 20 years, I had tried everything until I saw this website and the benzoyl peroxide success stories. In short this works, its crazy after having tried everything from facials to antibiotics, to topicals, to yeast free diets ..you name it and I tried it. Now that I have found what i consider a heart breakingingly simple acne cure, i can kiss my old foe acne goodbye. Its been a long time coming :)

Cons:

Very slight redness, and possible drying of skin.

Like so many others on this website have said, the bottom line is benzoyl peroxide 2.5% works, you must apply it day and night, and if you do, within a few weeks you will notice your acne lessening, yes there is some redness, and your acne scars will take longer to disappear but ultimately if you are disciplined with using benzoyl peroxide it will reward you with CLEAR SKIN, I have a smile on my face writing the words 'clear skin' after 20 years of spots!!!

Pros:

Easy System
Skin Feels Great After Using It
No Too Pricey

Cons:

Nothing Really, Skin May Get A Bit Dry, If So, Moisturize

I really like this product so far. My skin is already clearing up, Just 2 days! My skin feels great after I use this 3-step system. I haven't needed to moisturize yet, but may need to soon. It isn't an irritating product, like some of the other products I have tried, Stridex pads being the main example. But, of course, everyone's body, skin, and acne are different. Seems to feel pretty light, feels good to wash your face with it, and doesn't leave that awful oily feeling afterwards that some other products gave me. I tried using the Clean and Clear Morning Burst system, and that didn't really work for me. But, that isn't really for an acne system, that just cleans normal skin. It did however, make my skin breath, so to speak. Anyway, I really like the AcneFree system so far. I am using the regular system, although they make a few others, including AcneFree Severe and AcneFree Sensitive skin. I assume they just have different amounts of benzoyl peroxide, but, I am not sure. Best of luck using this product, and I hope your acne and skin become amazingly beautiful!!!

Pros:

it absolutely gets rid of acne!!! its wonderful, i much prefer the gel over bp creams. it never gets white or gets sweat off easily

Cons:

can cause flakiness if you don't know how much to use and start off with too much

This saved my life. I couldn't trust any products and they didn't work well. ANYONE with acne...do the regimen. Study it, adhere to it, and basically follow it religiously and you won't have acne.

Pros:

it failed completely!!!

don"t buy it

Cons:

burns
stops working for some people
dries
stings
expensive

Its a scam. If a celebrity says its good, doesnt mean it is. Just look at them their horrible acne is normally one bump on their otherwise perfect face!!! this product has a huge price tag for nothing. I think lemon juice or sea salt could do better. my acne didnt chang by the time I quit it was worse it only works on people with light acne try it if you want to waste your money or your super rich, cause i'm not

Pros:

Not bad, but it didn't stop my breakouts.
Refining mask with sulfur is a great overnight spot treatment.

Cons:

BP Cleanser left stains on my bathrobe.
Cleanser is also gritty, like it has sand in it.
Green tea moisturizer stings much worse than the DKR moisturizer!

Tried this for a month. I noticed some improvement, but I still broke out. Things got much better when I started applying much more of the BP, as per DKR. The toner didn't seem to do much for me, except after a workout when I could see it picking up a lot of oil and grime. Best thing about the Proactiv products is the Refining Mask, which has sulfur in it. I tried using it once as a facial mask per their instructions, but it stank to high heaven! Read reviews on [link removed] toting it as being an great overnight spot treatment. Tried it that way and totally concur with the other reviewers. It's an awesome spot treatment!

Pros:

Fast Results, easy application, fragrance free

Cons:

a little drying, bleaches fabrics

I've only been using this for a week [am & pm] and I'm already seeing lots of results. After a day all pimples were flattened. I currently don't have any acne. I used to have serious blackhead problems on my nose, but now they're almost completely gone. I have sunburn right now, so I don't know if my redness is gone. The lotion lightly bleaches fabrics, so let it dry before putting your face on your pillow. I did have some drying, but it wasn't too bad. I just lightly applied another moisturizer in the afternoon. It can be a bit pricey, but after digging around online you can find a reasonable price. 30$ isn't too bad for 3 products that work.

Pros:

Great smell, gentle, easy to use, great price, all-natural.

Cons:

none

First of all, I cannot believe that anyone who has actually tried this product would have anything bad to say about it! I am a 31-year-old woman, and this is the first and only skin product I've tried that consistently keeps my acne at bay (especially during that time of the month). The soap has been wonderful as well- we have very dry, cold winters in Edmonton, Alberta and the past 3 winters that I have been using it are the first ones I can recall that I haven't had dry, flaky skin. My skin tone is just better overall as well. I would add that I feel great about using the soap on my now 4-year-old daughter and knowing that she isn't getting all kinds of harmful chemicals absorbed into her skin :)

Pros:

Easy to use, My face does not burn, All my acne break-outs have ceased

Cons:

None, wished I would have found this product in my early teenage years.

I have been using these products for about 10 years. I use multiple products of Clear & Smooth. I usually spend between $60-$85 every 3-4 months. I purchase the 5 bars of soap for $22, plus 2 acne treatment's at $19 each = $38 & every so often I order a lip balm for $15, No matter what you decide to purchase the shipping is $8, so if you buy 1 item its $8 if you decide to buy 10 items it's still $8. I started using this product in my mid 20's I'm in my mid 30's presently. I wish I had found this product sooner. I use to go to the dermatologist consistently for prescriptions. I have used products like Proactiv, Acne Statin, Clinique acne solutions, and Phisoderm acne washes just to name a few. The prescription pills made my stomach hurt & would many times have a loss of appetite. The solution like proactive burned my face to badly, there was nothing refreshing about that product & it was expensive. Seeing the dermatologist for the Acne statin my face was red all the time and dried me out too much. I looked just as bad with a pure red face as with just the acne on its own. Now when I started using Carleys Clear & smooth the price wasn't too bad it took some time before it did work on me. I think I really started to see the results around 2 ½ to 3 months. The first couple of weeks I seen some improvement but nothing to write home about. There were also some daily habits that I also changed. I started to bicycle for exercise a couple of times a week not far just like a total of 4-5 miles each ride 2 times usually sometime 3x a week, I also laid off fast food to 2-3 times a week instead of everyday. I started to eat some fruit with a homemade sandwich with cheese; I use any lunch meat ham, pastrami, roast beef. I slowed my soda intake from everyday to like 3 days a week, I have either ice tea or propel water or minute maid juice of some sort. I just think between the good products of Carleys clear & a few minor life style changes it worked for me.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
