Pros:

nothing

Cons:

everything

Proactiv is an overpriced piece of crap that actually makes acne worse. I have used it twice now and both times it led to horrible breakouts. It only appears to be working for some because the product bleaches the skin causing more irritation that leads to more acne.

Pros:

It dried my face out like a prune

Cons:

It didn't do a think for my acne...looked like it made it worse...which would follow the author of this websites belief that acne comes from irritation NOT bacteria...

buy the treatment from this website... get your hands on a multivitamin because you're probably low on something...if you want to know what it is that you're low on...go get bloodwork done from the MD,ask him/her to order vitamin/mineral tests.

Cons:

everything. oh boy...i AM SO TIRED of trying treatment after treatment. proactiv does not work! guthy knows that, please offer suggestions of a product that really works, for someone with moderate/severe acne and scars PLEASE!

BIGGEST LOAD OF CRAP EVER! easpecially since I live in Miami and with most acnce products I have to wear an SPF of like a thousand but with this...my face was hot after 5 minutes of being in the sun and it truly burns and I've spent so much time and money because supposedly with consistency it works...again more crap. Acne runs in my family and I for one am not fond of dying with acne so if anyone can please...please recommend anything I would greatly appreciate it

Pros:

NONE

Cons:

Worsened my acne

this product did not work for me - i have suffered acne for 8 years, and have tried pretty much everything - incl. roaccutane. Benzac has not helped at all... infact i believe it has actually worsened it... has anybody else had the same issue?

Pros:

Actually works, no added fragrance which is bad for my sensitive skin, does not dry out skin, and Clinique doesn't test on animals :)

Cons:

The moisturizer does have a light medicine smell from the benzoil peroxide BUT it does go away fast

I'm 30 years old and I have I have tried SO MANY products for my acne, incuding organic products, and nothing had worked better than this. I'm sensitive to smells and my skin is just sensitive in general and I was hesitant to use these products because they do have benzoil peroxide in them (I haven't reacted well to it in the past), but I think that they have the combination right! My skin does not get dried out and flaky, it never feels tight, it doesn't burn...it just feels very comfortable and my acne has cleared up a noticable amount in just a few weeks. I use it twice a day religiously. The lady at the counter said I may need a regular moisturizer if my skin gets too dry, but that hasn't happened yet. I feel like it's a miracle product!

Pros:

I cleared my chronic acne condition in 6 weeks completely.Actually it is the only cleanser, my skin responds.I tried St.Ives,Pond's and Clearasil. But this is the bets.Thank you Neutrogena for saving my life

Cons:

The BP cream is bit drying.Actually I don't use it now.If you have sensitive skin use it carefully.

Please give it at least 6 weeks.

Pros:

Doesn't dry skin out. Good price. Effective.

Cons:

Didn't clear my skin completely. It did make it much better. It made my skin a lot smoother too.

Pretty good for the price.

Pros:

informercial is very convincing (if you want to consider that a pro)

Cons:

Dried out my face
It bleached certain areas of my face. I didn't realize it until I got some sun on my face & there were "white splotches" from the product. I called Proactiv & they said that could happen-real nice! Wouldn't have used it I had kno

Didn't help me.....made my skin worse from the "bleaching." I don'trecall ever reading about it bleaching your skin, clothing yes, skin no. I would have NEVER used it if I knew.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
