Pros:

Product works, but like some stated above "it's not a miracle product" and is in fact one of the Best on the current acne prevention market.

Cons:

-will dry skin, and cause breakouts at the beginning of treatment: explained below.
-price is high, but not compared to products like murad, or dermalogica

Proactiv works but you have to give it a chance. Since most cleansers aren't all balanced to the same PH levels you going to have reactions when switching. I used the product for over a year and loved it but stopped and began breaking out again. So I've started again even tho the price is so high. This product cleanses deep, removes impurities below the surface so breakouts are going to happen at the beginning of treatment, once you get past this bump in the road you'll see clear more even toned skin, if you have moderate to oily skin.

Pros:

Ships to your house

Cons:

Everything

Waste of money. This product made my eyes and neck swell up like a balloon, now I have wrinkles under my eyes that won't go away and I'm only in my 20's. Doesn't work at all and they kept sending and charging me for the product after I called and canceled.

Pros:

It does make my skin feel smooth. I had a few pimples before using it, but they went away the next day (seriously no lie)

Cons:

my skin did start to burn/itch. Burned badly around the corners or mouth and nose

To prevent the burning/itching, i didn't put any of the product near the corners of my mouth or nose (I remembered an experience I had with clearasil where the same thing happened). However, I haven't experienced any dryness yet, and I use everything as directed. That is probably the main problem with the people who are using it. If you do read the directions it says apply a THIN film on your face. Not a big thick layer, of course you would get adverse effects...DUH! but then again, I've only been using it for about 1 week, will update again after a month if anything has changed

Pros:

Very easy to use, I just use the face cleanser and it works wonders! Very cheap brought mine on sale at Target for $12.00!

Cons:

Skin is a little dry so I use another moistorizer at nighttime.

Very good, much cheaper than skinid and proactive. Works great, cheap, and no cheesy comercials with jessica simpson! lol :)

Pros:

The infomercials and testimonials are so convincing, it made me give it another chance...4th time user and still not convinced.

Cons:

It's a waste of money, the guarantee should last a year, 60 days is not enough to see the damage it creates.

After a month it feels nice and shows improvement, and now at my fourth months, my skin is worse than when I started. Many little new bumps all over, blotchy redness, an embarrassing mess on my face that even makeup cannot disguise. My skin feels like sandpaper. I'm back to step one, with many months of hope gone to waste. I tried Proactive in 1998, 2001, 2004 and now again in 2008 - the last time ever. I've struggled with severe acne for 10 years and still haven't found a product that works.

Pros:

cleared up most of my acne in a matter of weeks. reduced the swelling and redness. took care of those extremely painful pimples that are buried deep within the skin. also, i love the way the products smell.

Cons:

dried out my skin which then caused it to become flaky.

because using it twice a day was too much for my skin, i began using it at night time only. because of this my acne began to reappear again. i stopped using it because my skin couldn't handle it. i would recommend people like myself who had the same problem the gentle formula proactiv has created. i never experienced the "bleaching" problem which is just fine with me. also, use a sunscreen because that's the main thing that causes dryness for proactiv users.

Pros:

At first, the toner would make my skin glow. Didn't last long though.

Cons:

It's only made me break out more. I have had the worst pimples in my life since using it. I've even developed a few very painful and large cystic pimples that now have scared my face.

I ordered this product hoping to clear up simple problems such as clogged pores, black heads and the occassional pimple but ended up getting opposite results. I understand that some acne products/medications tend to make your skin worse at first and then will eventually clear it up....that didn't happen in my case. It just keeps getting worse. I canceled my membership w/ Proactiv this week and I'm hoping that my face can just go back to normal. I rather get the occassional pimple than scars.

Pros:

All natural. Healing properties. Lasts at least 6 month's for only $19.00. Natural soap is awesome!!!!

Cons:

None.

I didn't have your typical acne. I had large cystic acne from the age of 22, now 37. I have been using this product for about 6 month's mow and I am always being stopped and asked what am I doing to get such a great complexion. I share. This is it for me!!! I also use all their moisturizer's. All wonderful. This is a no nonsense company and they are very personable. I email a question and within 5 minutes, I get a response. This product and all other products they offer has dramatically transformed my skin. Their natural soap is great for whole body.

Pros:

The price of the starter kit is on par with other similar products, and if you purchase at Clinique Bonus time, free gifts are always thrown in. My skin is very oily, and it reduces oil in just one day. Everything is clearer within 2 days.

Cons:

I wish the starter kit lasted long than one month, but that's not really the product's fault.

The package says to use it in the morning and in the evening, and that's the best way. If you use more frequently, you'll get dry skin. Less frequently, and it might not work for you. Do not put the toner or the lotion near the eye area - dryness will occur, and they weren't really intended for that area anyway.

Pros:

Only stuff that'll work at all with my skin
cheap
fast

Cons:

dries white
doesn't clear my acne completly

everything else has made my skin worse. oxy is the only thing i've found so far that works. i use this after i wash my face at night (with regular facewash follwed by oxy face wash) then again before i go to school. you cn tell when i dont use it

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
