Pros:

It is clearing up breakouts a little faster than normal.

Cons:

But is it really doing anything at all? little bumps all over my face, and now small whiteheads on my forehead, that i NEVER had before. And it is really really drying out my skin.

Can anyone tell me if there is something else I should be doing? I am washing my face in the morning then putting on clindamycin, and then lotion, then at night, I am washing my face putting on a thin layer of the differin, and then lotion. But I cant seem to escape the dryness, no matter how much or often i moisturize. Its been almost 10 weeks and nothing really seems to be getting better. Any tips? Did I mention that it is so drying I can only use it every other night.

Pros:

It didn't dry out my already sensitive skin, minimized inflammation A LOT! Doesn't irritate the skin, feels good putting it on, and the number of pimples I get has decreased.

Cons:

Still have blackheads on nose and get 1 or 2 pimples around my cycle. Took about 2 months to start seeing the effects.

I recommend this for anyone who has dry, sensitive skin but also gets pimples. Other acne products are made for people with oily skin and can dry out the skin even more, but Differin doesn't. There are different strengths available, my doctor gave me the second lowest dosage and said that if we needed we could go higher or lower depending on the results. Very cheap with insurance and lasts a long time. One tube lasts me about 2-3 months and it only costs 10 dollars.

Pros:

Prevents Breakouts, kills those evil red invaders!! lol

I have Health Insurance, so the price is severely dropped from over 100 bucks a month to around $7.50

Cons:

Sunburn hurts....bad. I find that whenever I have a soccer tournament, I get sunburnt pretty badly. Makes skin alot more sensitive.

ok, I'm currently using Differin .3% and it's working fantasticly for me. I'm using it with: Nic730 (Nicomide Supplement) and Duac (All Prescribed) I havn't had a single breakout since I've been using these products together, and it's been about 5 months. If you are going into the sun, PLEASE WEAR SUNSCREEN OIL FREE!!!!!! This is what I've learned after these past months.

Pros:

* works so damn well!
* diddnt give me any of that dry skin crap
* coz i started antibiotics first, there was no initial breakout

Cons:

takes a bloody long time to kick in
if you get sunburnt on your face, it hurts. alot.

my acne was never really severe, but it was persistant and i tried heaps of scrubs and creams and whatever but eventually i just went to my doctor and got something with a bit more kick - differin. the anti inflammitory agent in it is bloody great, and i litterally woke up after my first use and my skin wasnt nearly as inflamed, but the pimples were still there - they just diddnt look as bad. after that it was just slow work, but im into week 5 and its totally clear. before i started the treatment i came on this site and i was gettin really worried after reading heaps of negative reviews about how it gives you cystic acne and that, but i gave it a go and patience paid off - i got none of that stuff (dry skin, burning, worse acne) so if youre reading this and youre scared of starting the treatment then just grow a pair and go for it, it cant work if you dont try it. just dont give up on it, it really does work after a while

Pros:

This product is AMAZING...it's the only thing I need, really. Smaller looking pores, less oily skin, breakouts pretty much completely eliminated and an overall smoother complexion

Cons:

Feels kind of gross right after you put it on...but what acne product doesn't

I started using differin in high school, and my acne immediately improved (I had moderate acne). Occasionally I'd stop using it because I ran out & didn't refill my prescription, and after a couple weeks there was a noticeable difference - I started breaking out all over again - which would cease about a week after I continued using the product. I'm 20 now and still use the stuff...it improves the overall appearance of my skin & I love it.

Pros:

Does not smell strong like some creams and gels do. Easy to apply and seems gentle on the skin.

Cons:

Slow to work..does not seem to be doing anything for me but will keep using it and hope it starts to clear up these pesky red pimples and blemishes that are currently on my cheeks.

Try it, it may not be for you but worth a try. I went to see my derm who prescribed this to me - not great as my doctor prescribed this to me on my first visit but when i went to see my derm he said to use this as it will should help with the whiteheads. I have been trying it but its not that great to be honest will keep using it and see how i get on with it. Off back to see my derm beg of March if things getting any worse im hoping to have accutane - as i have used practically everything diannette, anti biotics, differin, bp gel and creams, vitamins, better water intake.. you name it i have tried everything to achieve blemish free skin but find that the only thing that will solve the problem for good is accutane. I have been on it once before and boy my skin was so clear its just upsetting and depressing seeing it go from clear and non greasy back to greasy and spotty..boy does it suck! But hey thats life..my advice see a derm and have patience!!

Pros:

is clearing it up! NO irritation or drying AT ALL. nice, smooth, clear consistency. helps with red marks. tube lasts a very long time.

Cons:

takes time. feels tight on skin for about 30 minutes after application.

I've been using Differin for about a month. At first my skin appeared to be clearing up, but then all hell broke lose. Thankfully this cleared up mostly in the first 2 weeks, but my skin was still a little worse than when I started. At the begining of the 4th week, i got bunches of clogged pore "bumps" on my forehead. But it's only the middle of week 4 and they are already clearing up leaving very smooth, nice, LESS OILY skin. My chin is still how it normally is, but it is less oily and appears to be clearing up. I think I'll give this another month and hopefully I will continue to improve!! I started off using it just twice a week, but I've bumped my usage up to once a day (at night) and I've had NO drying or irritation at all. And my skin IS sensitive. =D

Pros:

for me...low irritation, gel is a nice consistency. Dramatically improved skin.

Cons:

expensive, occasional trouble with peeling and burning but nothing major. takes a long time to work

I'm 27 and have used this for 6 months now. I saw some major improvement around 3-4 months, but I have seen a dramatic change in my skin over the last couple of weeks. It has really made my skin texture really nice, and my face is bright and vibrant looking. My pores are small. And I rarely break out anymore. I recommend this product but IT TAKES TIME. You have to be VERY patient with retinoids. Expect an increase in acne at first but eventual clearing. You will probably not see much change for the first 3 months.
January 7, 2008

Pros:

STOPS NEW ACNE! Smoothes skin

Cons:

Drys skin, sometimes flaky and tight. Doesnt get rid of old marks

It is the only product for anyone who is smart to use.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
