Pros:

It dries out your skin.

Cons:

It doesn't really work instantly and i didn't see any improvement over long usage.

I don't thinkit helped at all, i did not see any improvements within 3 months! I still have the average amount of acne i had BEFORE i started using Differin.

Pros:

Differin works fast! Easy to use and no residue

Cons:

Differin tends to dry the skin out

I have been using differin for about 6 months and can see a big difference. I use it in combination with Nicomide. I have tried to stop taking it for a week and the acne came right back. Needless to say..I am back on it and saw results within two days.

Pros:

none really.

Cons:

it just didn't work at all. there was no change in my skin.

It didn't irritate or anything, but my skin was exactly the same and i stuck with it for months. i'm using retin-a now and it's amazing. my skin is pretty much clear.

Pros:

It Does Work!
Havnt Had any cysts since started using it

i have cystic acne (anyone with it will know its a nightmare, especially the scars) iv been using differin for 6 weeks and its brilliant. i still have spots but very small. easily covered with make up (the doctor told me i wont see results untill after 8 weeks so it should get even better!) i havnt had any cysts (i got one about 2 days after i started using differin but it was only very small & went after a few days! i normally have them a few weeks) i would recommend differin!

Pros:

Doesn't smell
Works sometimes

Cons:

Burns
Itchy
YOU PEEL LIKE NO OTHER

The bottom line of this is that, it works for some, and is a bigger pain than it is a help. I never had bad pimples but, now I find that I get them more commonly than I did before. Another thing is that my skin is peeling and, no matter how much lotion I put on it doesn't really help. I even have scabs from the feeling (its not that bad... but still). Plus it's totally not worth 100.00 dollar. And that's what I paid for it. I dont know maybe it's ust my skin, none of my friends use it, but it does work.,, But just not as well as I think it should.

Pros:

Cleared blackheads, cleared pimples, made my skin flawless

Cons:

took at least 4-5 months before I started to see improvement, took about 7 months to make my skin perfect, after a year didn't work anymore

I had bad skin, oily and big white pimples in combination with hundreds of small pimples and blackheads on my nose and cheeks, my derm prescribed me minocycline 50 mg once a day and differin cream 0.1 at night, it took a lot of time to work but eventually my skin got perfect, however, after a year it stopped working and my acne came back, althought I didn't have the huge white pimples I used to have, I had more little pimples all over my face. I returned to the derm and he prescribed me Retisol-A, I hope it works, good luck with Differin, it does work but not for long though

Pros:

Not as many white heads

Cons:

Dries out
Itchy
Makes red

WOW, i am only 13. but have been using it for around one month... nearly. I am waiting to see better results. It is only moderaate on my chin and down the left side of my face, like sideburns! Most acne gone except scar tissue... LOTS! which sucks, its not permanent and the doc has told me to give it 6 months. i really would like to see a bit more improvement as my confidence is still at an altime LOW. DONT wear make up (even mineral), white heads pop out from every where SUNLIGHT is fine for me, just causes the chin to get red.

Pros:

Starting to clear skin in only 3 days!

Cons:

makes face really dry. wicked expensive without insurance...cost me $120!!

I have had moderate acne since I was a teen and it was under control with proactive until last year when I starting getting cysts and red spots everywhere (now 26). Tried Rentin-A for 8 weeks and it made my skin soooo bad I wanted to die. Then my doc put me on antibiotics which kinda helped. I tried baking soda which helped a little too. Just went to the derm last week and he increased the antibiotics and gave me differen. I was really worried about an initial breakout but so far so good. The skin that is clear already looks more radiant and the spots I do have are drying out. Like it so far but time will tell.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
