Pros:

it doesnt burn or sting, pretty gentle

Cons:

did not make any difference or clear up acne

I've been using this medicine for nine months now and at first it did a little bit but now I'm really starting to think that it does absolutely nothing.

Pros:

NONE!

Cons:

Swollen face, skin peeling and blochy, really stings, there wasnt a cream that i could find that would sooth the burning that the gel caused on my face i was in agony and it made me ill.

Do not use this! i have used it for one week and refuse to keep using it because im in pain. My face feels like its on fire and any creams i use makes it worse, i dont no what to use to sooth it - i stopped using it two days ago and my face is still peeling and stinging!.

Pros:

I get it on the NHS so no costs. The only cream to work so far and I have no redness even though I use it twice a day and have dry skin.

Cons:

None for me.

Really helps get rid of existing spots, but takes time.

Pros:

Helps to manage my cyst acne, no peeling but did caused more breakout initially as promised (but I'd rather have these than my original cyst which are so bad)

Cons:

Yet to see real result (i.e. clear smooth skin - I still have teeny bumps. It might take quite long for me to recover

I'm using Differin (Gel) along with Diane 35 about a month now. My cyst acne made my face looked like it has been splashed with acid (it's that bad)..on my left cheek. My derm give me prescription on Diane 35 and sample of Differin to help control the acne, once I get off Diane 35, as she says Differin helps to kill off acne to the roots. I hope this is true. I heard enough stories on baaaad breakouts after stopping Diane 35, which I planned to do within 3 months time. However, now my skin looks much better, no more bad breakouts (only some teeny bumps and blackish marks left that I wish will disappear overtime-I'm using Bodyshop Vit C Skin Booster + Vit E Mosturizer combo for this).

Pros:

IT WORKS...IT REALLY DOES

Cons:

drys out skin, lots of peeling, and CRAZY expensive without insurance. I have insurance, but without it it would have costed me $203.00

I have had acne, seriously, for as long as I can remember. I've never seen my face without pimples. I recently went to a dermatologist for the first in my life after years of being prescribed medication that never worked from my doctor. I've been using differin for about 3 wks and it works for me. I use differin 0.3 only at night and never experienced the "inflamed" stage maybe because my acne always been so bad I didn't notice it I'm also using an Oscion Cleanser 3% (sort of like Triaz), clindamycin pledgets, and I'm also taking zinc supplements. My face is significantly clearing up. I've suffered with depression and was very antisocial, but in these last few weeks I've been gaining confidence.

Pros:

Definitely helped clear up smaller blemishes and contributed to evening out my skin tone.

Cons:

Not really for cystic acne, can be a little drying if you have sensitive skin.

Works well, but you have to give it time. There is definitely an "inflamed" stage where it appears to be getting worse, but be patient! Especially if you are on a combination of treatments. Like I mentioned above, Differin definitely isn't for cystic acne, but it helps with those little pimples that can be just as annoying.

Pros:

I saw improvement after a couple of weeks and now my skin is almost completely clear except for a few small zits and marks. I haven't had skin this clear in 5 years!

Cons:

At first it dried out my skin a little, but that was nothing a little Cetaphil couldn't fix. As the packaging states, my acne did get worse in the first 2 weeks, but don't get discouraged! Differin WILL WORK!

Over all, I'm happier about my skin than I ever have been even though I experienced some discomfort.

Pros:

I used the Cream and it Didn't cause burning/peeling like the retinol gels.

Cons:

IT BREAKS YOU OUT???!!!??

This Product is an oxy-moron! An acne cream that "Breaks you out". My skin was looking so much clearer, yet I noticed my pores looked a little clogged so I used this for 5days and it Broke me out BADLY! After 3 weeks, Im still recovering. I don't believe purging is necassary! I've used acne clearing products before that made my skin look better and better, Not WORST! And the fact that some reveiws said it takes months to work is RIDICULOUS! In a Month you could see increasingly clearer skin with a good regimen and eating healthy! I truly dislike differen! I now take flaxseed oil, zinc peels, and I wash with purpose & dissolved aspirin, along with a couple of other healthy rememides...and like I said my skin is getting better and better...not the opposite!

Pros:

Differin really cleared up my acne.

Cons:

it's very expensive and doesn't do much for blackheads and pores

I have tried so many products and the only one that's work thus far is Differin. It has cleared up all the pimples on my face but I haven't seen much of a change in the blackheads on my nose or my pores. However, I would recommend this product to anyone that wants to see positive results. My acne did get worse at first but you have to be patient for a good two months to see results (at least that's how long it took for me to see results)
April 25, 2008

Pros:

Great. Great. Great. Cleared me up when nothing else worked

Cons:

None really. It dried me around the mouth at first but nothing major.

I used sooo many products and wasted so much time. My derm gave me a sample of this and I demanded a presciption the next day.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
