Adapalene is a vitamin A derivative called a topical retinoid. It helps clear acne by promoting skin cell turnover and reducing inflammation in the skin.

Non-prescription adapalene is available only in 0.1% strength.

Adapalene is topically applied usually once a day before going to bed to all acne-affected areas of the skin, and not just on individual pimples themselves.

Pros:

Works very well. Light/no itching, redness, peeling at all.

Cons:

Expensive (30$ for clear skin, YES.)

This treatment works, period. After a month, I'm seeing change in my skin overnight. Differin is not only an acne treatment, it's a self esteem boost.

Pros:

Very smooth skin, noticeably clearer, less large breakouts

Cons:

The gel is VERY drying; recommend cream version. I also need other products to maintain clear skin. It is also quite pricey

I have been using Differin for about 5 years and would recommend the cream to anyone. Its expensive without insurance, but if you have acne, I'm sure you'll be willing to pay anything. I have also recently started using Rosalin face wash and an antibiotic as the Differin is not enough to completely clear my adult acne.

Pros:

I have been on it now for 23 days exactly along with bactrim 2x per day and the benzaclin in the morning (the one that you keep in fridge), my face looks horrid, Im pretty sure its the purging, I figured the other 2 meds would help with it but no.

Cons:

None as of yet, except thats it gotten worse and they say it ALWAYS will, and its been about 3 weeks so im sure im at purging statge!

Im gonna wait it out another month I want to know how to put up pics to show progess or dis progress!! I would recommend for now

Pros:

clears skin eventually, makes it smooth & soft, and removes all big zits

Cons:

it takes time to really work (about 3 months)

This treatment is very expensive without insurance so I recommend insurance...but it really works in the end. I've tried tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide...and so many acne treatments and nothing worked. I started using differin and was very dissapointed but after the first month i started noticing a difference and eventually my skin cleared up alot...now i just have small pimples that barely show and I'm sure it'll clear up soon

Pros:

Makes my skin smooth.

Cons:

None yet.

I can't write a full reveiw for this product left, because i've only been using it for a couple days. The acne has gotten a little better in some parts, hasn't peeled yet, doesn' burn/sting or anything. Although it has gotten worse in others. I'll come back in about a month to write a report.

Pros:

clears acne, greatly reduces redness, makes skin soft and smooth

somewhat drying, i don't know how much it was because my mom paid for it :/

I have always gotten big deep cyst-like zits. I don't get scattered whiteheads or thick acne. My skin is sensitive and sometimes gets pretty oily. Washing my face in the shower was all that I did to take care of my skin. I would also randomly apply some over the counter spot treatment to large problem zits, which never worked too well. I'm also a picker. I pick at my zits a lot. I've always had big red marks and scabs as a result. When my dermatologist prescribed me Differin (lowest strength because of my sensitive skin), I decided to stop picking and actually follow the directions and apply Differin every day. Over the past few weeks most of my red marks are gone, my skin is much more even toned and smooth, and no new zits are sprouting. I've been using the Differin at night before bed and using aloe gel in the morning to help with the slight dryness.

Pros:

Really does work.

Cons:

Can cause peeling and burning if too much product is used. Can be expensive. Results not immediate.

I've used Differin for about six months. Overall this is a great product. It is not however for individuals looking for a quick fix. The product will cause your acne to get worse after you start to use it. This is how the product works. You have to get existing blemishes out first. Trust me, it is well worth it in the end. Also, much of the dryness can be avoided by using only a pea sized amount. Dryness is normal in the first few weeks and can be reduced by applying the cream every other night for the first several weeks. Also, after working in a pharmacy for the past five years, I'm amazed at how many people use Differin in the morning. Retinoids like Differin begin to break down when exposed to UV light. It should only be applied at night. After trying dozens of products over the years, I can honestly say Differin works better than any other topical product I have used. It is extremely expensive but worth every penny.

Pros:

Goes on really easily, has no weird smell, doesn't burn or sting

Takes a while to work - but it really does.

My doctor prescribed me a liquid Clindamycin treatment that I put on with clean cotton balls twice a day after washing my face (a.m. and p.m.). I wait about 20 minutes and then put the Differin on right before bedtime. Don't use it twice a day - you're NOT supposed to. Wash your face before bed and put in on then, not in the a.m.! ALSO ***Don't*** use it with things containing Salicylic Acid - wash, cream, whatever - it has adverse effects and will dry your skin horribly! If you read the product info carefully, it says so right on the package insert. Took about 3 months before I started really noticing a difference. But it's great; I love it. I am not sure how much it costs w/o insurance - with my copay it's about $40.

Pros:

Clears skin beautifully!!

Cons:

U get faster results if used with minocylen and PanOxy bar (10%)... and it takes a looooong time to see results... o and its also kinda expensive

It works after awhile.... u really wont be dissapointed you just have to wait and be patient b/c it does get worse before better. I started using it during my junior year in HS and i cleared up beautifully... im a sophmore in college and i still use it to stay clear!!!!

Pros:

Gets better fast!!!!!!!!!!!

Cons:

It starts to work and then it gets worse. I use it twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. I might have to use it more offen or less offen!

I might have to start using it with another face wash or take menocyclene with it!!!
