Pros:

Not overdrying (I have no dryness at all, no flakes finally!!!!), makes skin glow, not smelly, reasonably priced with insurance plan

Cons:

Absoluetly cannot miss one night of application, otherwise you will get a pimple or two, scars are not healing well yet, takes sometime to work, but well worth the wait!!!!!

I have used sooo many products over the counter and precribed. I have fought acne for ten years, and finally have found something that is perfect for my skin! I have better self-esteem and enjoy my skin now!

Pros:

not really any... um... you use it just at night?

Cons:

expensive (my insurance didn't cover it), doesn't work, makes skin oily/shiny and smelly.

i started doing prescription topical meds when i was about 14. after years of none of them working i stopped. when i was 21 and still getting moderately bad acne, my doctor suggested that even though they might not have worked when i was 14, i could give them another try. there was really just no improvement at all. i've started some otc washes and creams and take zinc and fish oil and my skin is looking decent.

Pros:

Somewhat cleared acne after about 3 months and made pimples smaller.

Cons:

Redness. peeling. scars dont seem to go away. still have light acnes after a year of use.

I guess this products works if you give it the time, but I dont think it was worth it. If you use this product don't miss more than one day of application at a time. I made this mistake after about 9 months of use and my acne was as bad as day 1.

Pros:

worked after about a week. makes skin feel clean. makes you feel more confident about yourself

Cons:

pricely!

I've tried both ProActives Combination method and Minocylin perscription and they didnt work that well.. i tried differin with minocylin and a over the counter 10% benyzol peroxide and my face has never looked clearer!! Give Differin a try!! it really works

Pros:

Works pretty well, little irritation, no smell, fast drying.

Cons:

A little drying, [nothing moisturizer can't take care of], very irritating the area that surrounds eyes.

My acne is pretty bad, I wouldn't say severe but it's definately up there. I break out mostly on my chin/mouth and forehead. My derm prescribed me this and cephalexin a few weeks ago and so far my skin is clear-er. Not quite there, but hopefully within time it will get better. On the other hand my best friend is also prescribed this and hates it.

Pros:

doesn't burn, or flake.

Cons:

takes a long time for you to see any effect.

ive been using differin and benzaclyn for about 10 weeks and my face was horrible red and flaky but now its almost done pulling all the acne from "under" my skin and its starting to clear up. all the acne under my skin by my chin is starting to clear up. takes time and patience.

Pros:

This is the best product I have ever used. Stopped nearly all acne breakouts, calmed current spots and acted quickly.

Cons:

None.

I have had very bad acne since I was 13 (I'm 21) and no product has worked this well. Nearly all acne breakouts have been stopped and my face has calmed down beyond all expectations. I rarely ever take the time to write a review, but I would strongly recommend trying this product.

Pros:

Not too expensive if your insurance covers it, doesn't smell

Cons:

Not good for cystic acne

I used a combination of Clindamycin and Differin. I didn't break out with much pimples but a cystic acne flare up did appear some months out of the year. I am still searching for a great acne topical and haven't found one yet. Lately I've been just smearing Clearasil on my face and it's kind of working.

Pros:

I wrote a review a couple weeks ago, ive been on it now for exactly 44 days about 7 weeks, ive cleared up soo much, but not out of the woods yet! still breaking out but it doesnt look horrible anymore! :)

Cons:

Takes a while to see full results but I know it will look great!

At first if you see initial breakout dont give up!!! I was about too but I kept on and im totally clearing up, im also using with Bactrim so that im sure is helping but i know the differin in working great!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
