Pros:

It cleared me up 70% after the IB. My insurance covered it 100%

Cons:

I've developed an allergy after 4 months or so. Even a very small amount anywhere on my face made my eyes puff up like a newborn seal within a couple of hours and persisted at least a day. The exact same thing had happened to me with BP, too.

It may cause severe reaction.

Pros:

My pimples do seem to disappear quicker, as long as I dont pick at them and cause them to scab over. Pimples are smaller.

Cons:

Haven't really seen any improvement, if anything it is getting worse. I dont have as big pimples as I did before but there seem to be a lot more. Made my skin really dry and peeling.

I hear that it can take up to 6 months to get completely clear so I will probably stick it out until the Summer then try something new if it still isn't working by then.

Pros:

Creme Version in not greasy and shiny, absorbs quickly
Very SMALL amount of irritation as compared to Tazorac gel
Very short time span of initial breakout

Cons:

Slight dryness, facial redness

I have been on Differin for approximately three weeks, and my skin looks amazing. I was suffering from DAILY breakouts, non-stop. My derm. recommended I stop drinking skim milk (which I was drinking every single day with cereal). The instant I got on Differin, and stopped drinking skim milk, my skin was glowing. I didn't have ONE breakout. Then of course, my skin had to adjust to the Differin and I had very small amounts of little bumps due to the expected initial "breakout" after about a week of use. I'm now at 3 weeks of use and I am very pleased...

Pros:

got rid of acne, odorless, easy to use,

Took about two weeks to clear up face, even over night you will see a difference in pores and redness. A little goes a long way. didnt get rid of those pesky black heads though. Covered through insurance.

Pros:

It initially cleared up my skin

Cons:

makes skin oily and shiny, and acne comes back often

I've been using differin since i was in the SEVENTH grade, and now im a junior in high school. I was prescribed differin by my previous derm. and it really changed my life. I had severe acne, and in about seven months it was moderate and i could handle it. Now i have a different derm., but he still gave me differin, along with the oral med. solodyn, which did nothing. Now he switched me the Doryx twice daily, and that helps...SOMETIMES. I feel like the my skin has become immune to Differin....i mean it def reduces the size and redness of my pimples, but my face is stilll covered with the unsightly marks. But, then again, I have extremely stubborn skin. I would reccomend it to anyone with light, moderate, and moderately severe acne, because it will def clear up your face. unfortunately for me, it has stopped working. lol oh and it is EXTREMELY expensive, but thankgod my insurance only has a copay of 1$ =)

Pros:

Worked very well. Less pimples, less redness and less black heads. Also helped a lot with bothered skin.

Cons:

Made my skin shiny, not oily, just shiney, and it's expensive

I've been using differin on and off for about a year now, I use it if my acne starts to come back. My pores look smaller, and my army of black heads are gone, along with the annoying white heads. My pimples only come during my once a months, and my skin feels very light and smooth.

Pros:

iv been using it for more than a year now and i dont see any touched results

Cons:

It doesnt work!

Don't use it unless you have an inflamed pimple that you need to get rid of faster...

Pros:

Skin is smoother, less oily, certain acnes clear up quicker, and it settles into skin quickly before bed.

Cons:

The initial "it gets worse before it gets better" is no fun.

I'm sticking it out to see what happens b/cuz that's what the doc & pharmacist says. Broke out badly the 1st week, this is only my 2nd wk, but I will update after 6 wks, after my follow up visit with the dermatologist. My pores are looking a bit smaller too. CAUTION: Benzoyl peroxide CORRODES skin.

Pros:

Didnt Dry. Non Oily. No Odour. No Staining.

Cons:

Didnt clear up ALL of my face.
Expensive. Takes long time to work

I had this product prescribed to me two weeks ago. BEFORE: Acne as following : White heads on cheek and chin. Black head on nose. Very Oily Skin NOW: While it DOES take a long time to see results, Differin stopped my big breakouts. For two months it wasnt getting worse. Just the same. IT DID GET WORSE ONCE. I did break out realllly badly on my chin. Getting Better: Has def. helped. Pores smaller. Face not as oily. A couple of pimpels. BUT compared to my old acne. This is god.

Pros:

reduced acne somewhat, easy to use

Cons:

made my skin sensitive and irritated

I went to Florida while using this, and I turned purple. Honest to goodness, purple. I don't know if it was the combination of the sun (I wear sunscreen religiously) or saltwater, or what. But I was purple. And my skin felt very sore as well. Not irritated or chapped, but like I had gotten smacked very hard. Needless to say I discontinued use. I haven't heard of any other reactions like this, so I would say give it a try to other people.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
