Pros:

Pretty Much stopped new ones from appearing and minimal side effects compared to the benzoyl peroxide which made my skin red and peeled real hard

Cons:

had a small amount of peeling in a small area around the side of the nose for around 2 days then it stopped

Works pretty well, easy to apply once a day.

Pros:

You put in on b-4 you go to bed. You only need a little bit

Cons:

If i didn't have insurance, it would be too exspensive for me i think. And it's kind of greesy feeling.

I think this stuff works. I have only been using it for a week, and i can tell it's getting rid of thise bumps that would never go away, no matter how much i washed my face and didn't touch it. It's drying out my skin alot, but i have just been putting on more lotion than i normally would b-4 i got this stuff.

Pros:

I found that if you globbed it on a zit it would get much better overnight, it cleared up all the ance on my cheeks.

Cons:

Doesn't get rid of all the acne. I didn't see the same results as everyone else did, at all.

Differin is expensive. ($30 for a tube) I've tried everything, and nothing has worked. I'll have clear skin one week, the I'll look like a pizza the next. Maybe that's just the way my face is. I've tried Acne-Free, The Wave, Stridex, Clearasil, and the Stress control stuff. I've yet to try Proactive or Skin ID. But, the pink grapefruit stuff worked pretty well. I'd try that. (:

Pros:

It cleared me up 70% after the IB. My insurance covered it 100%

Cons:

I've developed an allergy after 4 months or so. Even a very small amount anywhere on my face made my eyes puff up like a newborn seal within a couple of hours and persisted at least a day. The exact same thing had happened to me with BP, too.

It may cause severe reaction.

Pros:

Skin is smoother, less oily, certain acnes clear up quicker, and it settles into skin quickly before bed.

Cons:

The initial "it gets worse before it gets better" is no fun.

I'm sticking it out to see what happens b/cuz that's what the doc & pharmacist says. Broke out badly the 1st week, this is only my 2nd wk, but I will update after 6 wks, after my follow up visit with the dermatologist. My pores are looking a bit smaller too. CAUTION: Benzoyl peroxide CORRODES skin.

Pros:

Didnt Dry. Non Oily. No Odour. No Staining.

Cons:

Didnt clear up ALL of my face.
Expensive. Takes long time to work

I had this product prescribed to me two weeks ago. BEFORE: Acne as following : White heads on cheek and chin. Black head on nose. Very Oily Skin NOW: While it DOES take a long time to see results, Differin stopped my big breakouts. For two months it wasnt getting worse. Just the same. IT DID GET WORSE ONCE. I did break out realllly badly on my chin. Getting Better: Has def. helped. Pores smaller. Face not as oily. A couple of pimpels. BUT compared to my old acne. This is god.

Cons:

expensive

Its my first time to use it, and a little surprised to read that most of the users have to wait months before adapelene will shows its effect.. Now im not sure if i have to continue using it. Im bothered if my face will have to get worst or it will never look better again.. hays!

Pros:

a little goes a long way, use 1x a day

Cons:

dryness, how it makes you face look worse than ever

I have been using it a few months and at first I liked it, then because of the dryness, i would stop and then start again. for about a month now I'm using and I hate how it is worse before it is better but it is helping, I use it every other day since it drys out my skin and was burning. I'm just not sure what to use with it?

Pros:

dries out the cyst like areas gradually and seems to prevent breakouts in its tracks

Cons:

increased sensitivity, dryness and flakiness. i only use it on my jawline but have noticed that my eyelids are really sensitive and all in all face more tingly. only use at night.

I think it works with time and but I am using the 0.1% so may ask for my next prescription to be higher. you must use a good moisturiser, gonna try the jojoba oil as suggested here on this site.

Pros:

Feels better than BP.
It works wonders
Little goes long ways.

Cons:

I dont have insurance so cost. 140 a month :(

This is an individual review and this stuff works for me. I am asian, male, and live in the valley of CA. I started taking this a week ago and it worked wonders. I didn't feel any of it's "nasty side effects" because i think my skin is very resilient, which was nice. It actually felt really nice on my skin. It controls the cystic acne pretty well and helps heal resisting lesions very well, for me anywas. I am taking mynocycline too, but that takes at least 2 months to work. I don't have insurance so this thing cost me 140 bucks a month. but i was paying 80 bucks for proactive every 3 month, so i guess it evens out. I have to say though, persistent is key. My breakouts didn't get worse at first, it got better. Also i am on the Paleo Diet so that helps ALOT!! Sticking with it, no matter what therapy, will give you results in the end. I'll get back to review this when my therapy is over.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
