Stick with it!
I have had acne on and off for a few years, but nothing major until earlier this year when the stress of school caught up with me. I went to the dermatologist and was given a prescription for epiduo as well as a recommendation to use Cerave AM after applying. I have very sensitive skin that often becomes irritated and red so I wasn't sure what to expect. The first week was torture! My face became so red and dry that everything was so painful. My face hurt so badly I stopped wearing makeup and my whole face was bright red. I was about to give up until I found the reviews on this site saying that it takes a little while for it to work, so I stuck with it. It really paid off! After about 10 weeks, my face finally began to show some drastic differences. I got a clarisonic facial brush for Christmas and the combination of the brush as well as the time really made a difference in my acne. I haven't had a new pimple in about two weeks and now I am just waiting for the old acne scarring to fade. I think that this really is a good product, it just takes a while to make a difference. I really suggest sticking with it and while it might take a while it really pays off in the end. I wore makeup the entire time and I don't think it made a big difference so don't worry about that. Hope this helps!

is it good to spot treat pimples through Epiduo? thanks a lot

So far so good!
Hey, I am 33 years old and been suffering with acne on and off for almost 18 years now. I have tried so many antibiotics and creams I have lost count of which ones. I live in the uk so cost of treatment is different to the US so it is affordable here. It all started when I was 15 and went in the pill dianete and became crazy bad when I was 18, I was using concealer for foundation. It was all over my face, back and chest. I was referred to a dermatologist who prescribed me accutane..... It was the best thing ever although it gave me bad back and dried my skin out and I looked like a lizard for a few months but my spots disappeared. I didn't even have to wash my hair which was great as I suffer with greasy roots haha. Anyway, it worked and I was spot free!!! But then when I was about 23 it started to come back :(. Not sure if it was stress or heartbreak that triggered it but it hasn't gone since. I wasn't taking tablets at the time as after taking so many it was an issue swallowing them and the doctor laughed at me which didn't help. I tried the injection contraception which made me skin so bad so I came off it. I eventually found the implant which was perfect and didn't make my skin worse hurray! My skin was still a problem and being 33 and in a job where I have to talk infront of groups I am very self aware of my bad skin. I have a number of bad days where I cry and hate looking at myself. I moved and changed doctors and recently he prescribed me tetraysal(lymecycline) and epidural to try. I must say I was desperate and would try one last thing before considering accutane again. I am nearly three weeks into it and I can honestly say it seems to be working!! The first two weeks were agony, I won't lie. My skin is red raw and dry and cracking and stung like hell. Also I broke out so bad as it seemed to be drawing all the crap out. But now it seems to be slowing down on breakouts and my skin is no longer red or sore. Just very itchy!! But I can handle that now. If you do give this a go, I would plan to have a few weeks off or something and make no plans to go out as you won't want anyone seeing you like I did. I wish I had a few weeks just locked up at home wearing no makeup. Makeup makes it worse with burning and itching but if you are like me you won't be seen dead without it. So anyway I am happy it's working and my skin is a lot smoother and my makeup looks a lot nicer on. Oh and another thing, I ended up buying cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser as everything stung like hell and these products will be very gentle. I like them and will continue to use them even when I have no spots. I will review again when I have used it a lot longer but it's worth a shot. Good luck

would NOT recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, I read reviews before I bought this and decided that many people seem to have found success. I have used a number of topical treatments before and found things to be drying, but I can put up with that!!! I started using this and hated it, but still gave it a chance. For the first 2 weeks it stung. so bad. It would sting when I would apply the medication, but also when I would exercise and sweat, when I showered or swam in a pool...ect...ouch! It also made my face really red. As everyone else said, it makes you skin flake and peel. But it was way worse than anyone warned. It got to the point where wind would move dead skin off my face!! I couldnt apply makeup because it was flaking so much. My face had an AWFUL texture and I look 100000x worse than with cystic acne. no thanks! but i continued with it (oh no...) by week 3 the peeling had yet to cease. it was bad. I reapplied the thickest moisturiser I could find 10+ times a day, and it was no help! felt so emabarrassed! WHY HAD I DONE THIS TO MYSELF!! My acne didnt clear up AND now, after a pimple would go away, the epiduo left a red mark where the pimple used to be!!!? this never happened to me before. but now not only do i have acne, but i also have a very uneven skin tone. needless to say, at the end of week 3 i gave up. overall, i wouldnt reccommend, not a good prouduct! However, it did help get rid of some acne (hardly, but a bit)

Stick with it and you will get results!
I have now almost completed my three month treatment with EpiDuo (along with tetralysal). I am a 25 year old female who suffers from hormonal acne (mild-moderate) since coming off the pill 2 years ago. First 1-2 weeks of epiduo: face was red, burned after application, had to skip one night or so, face peeled. It wasn't pretty but it wasn't all that bad either - I knew these side effects would disappear. I was scared I was allergic but since it didn't itch that bad and the redness would disappear during the day I thought it was fine and continued. 2-4 weeks: acne healed, new pimples were still forming but way less than before. My worst was def my forehead and my chin, this is where I saw the most dramatic improvement. 4-8 weeks: maybe a new pimple or so around ovulation/menstruation, but way smaller than before, not as painful, go away much faster. Sometimes I still got those deep painful ones. Overall though my face looked almost flawless with makeup! WOW! 8-12 weeks: (now) right now I still have a few red marks where recent pimples have resided, but as far as pimples go.. I don't think I have any at the moment? I do still get some closed comedones on my forehead but they are super easy to extract. Honestly, my face is so smooth. I can go grocery shopping without makeup on.... to the gym, see my friends. I still always wear makeup to work/school/events but it looks GOOD and not all bumpy. My selfconfidence is fantastic, I absolutely love it and will continue with epiduo until my 40's or for however long I might need it...

Epiduo it really works..
So i started using Epiduo after being recommended by my dermatologist in August 2015, last i had acne was back in 2010 while i was in college and now after 5 years..I am not sure of the reason behind sudden breakout but it is really scary to start seeing sports and little bumps appearing on your pretty face..So my dermatologist ask me to use Epiduo + Doxycyline (2 tabs a day ) and asked me to visit him in 2 months, initially i thought 2 months is a long time but as the day started to pass my acne started to get worse and more and more breakout is all i could see. I was depressed, shattered and sad and all i wanted to do is lock myself in a room and not to go anywhere. But by the time it was about 2 months and was time to see my doctor again my acne was looking way better than they use to be, there were no more new Acne or breakouts any more, my skin started to feel smooth and it has a shine in it, but still i had the spots and blemishes left from the acne. I visited my doctor after 2 months, and briefed him with the entire story of my journey on acne.. he graded my acne 4 this time, i was not sure what does that mean. He advised me to change the Epiduo to its advanced version Epiduo Forte, with insurance it will cost you no more than $25 ..and asked me to visit him again in 3 months..and today i am about to complete my 3rd month and i have zero acne, very light blemishes, my skin has brightened 2 times what it use to be and i feel so confident like never before.. My advise is please stick to it and u will see the results..Thank you Epiduo

Did not work for 14 year old female
This was the first prescription cream my kid was prescribed along with Doxycycline pills. No significant progress was made by either in reducing her acne.

Day 3 of Epiduo on Mild/Moderate Acne
So basically I have started using my Epiduo cream three days ago and I have mild to moderate acne, and it has been clearing it up, but also I have been getting some of the burning, redness and dryness. However, it does look like something that should work, so I am going to persist.

DO NOT USE I BEG YOU
horrible.. ruined my entire face. im a 17 year old boy and have always have 100% flawless skin and got a couple zits on my cheeks from over drying it swimming everyday during the summer and i wanted them gone cause it was annoying. so i read some good reviews on this, had a friend who used it and worked for him and also saw the commercials and stuff., so i had my dad (whos a family doctor) prescribe it for me. it did nothing at first then turned my mild acne into giant cysts all over my face. its been 5 months and im still working to clear the horrible scarring and other zits that formed from trying other crappy products in an attempt to clear the acne that epiduo started.

Maybe you should've made a smart choice and gone to a dermatologist who actually knows what they're doing, instead of assuming you know everything. You should've at least done some research into who it's meant for and what to expect, because it's definitely not meant for people with very mild acne.

My little pot of Miracle Cream!
After struggling with Acne for years during my high school years, I was determined to get it under control by any means necessary before I started university. But I tried every over the counter remedy I could find... And University, Semester 1 came and went. Suddenly, one doctor told me about Epiduo (no other doctor had ever described it to me before) and ever since then (2 years ago now) I have no acne what so ever. I occasionally get a spot, but maybe once a month or less. And it had results very quickly! Within a week there was a very noticeable change. IMPORTANT: in the beginning of the treatment I applied way way to much; and this actually caused more Acne from irritation alone. I used it twice a day and a large amount, and it made things worse. As soon as I started to use it once a day at night, and only a very small "pea-sized" amount I had drastic results. I think this product is great as the "treatment" phase of the Acne.org Regimen. It has none of the comedogenic ingredients from the list available here online, and its very neutral in small quantities. To wash my face I use: Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser (buy it at Coles, Chemist Warehouse, Woolies, etc.) To treat my face: Epiduo (only at night! and a small amount) To moisturise my face: Acne.org Moisturiser This regime with Epiduo is based on the Acne.org Regime. So now, with a new face free of acne, I recommend it to all to give it a try as a relatively cheap cream. PROS - Quick to see results. - Works on mild acne. - Cheap (only $5.95 if you have a HealthCare Card in Australia; however it is ~$36 on the PBS with Medicare and thats for anyone.) - Each tube/pump lasts about a month. CONS - very easy to use too much and make things worse. - can be expensive for people without a HealthCare Card. - You have to get a doctors prescription for it (Max repeat on each prescription is x3). - makes you more prone to sunburn, reddening of the face. - not all pharmacies or chemists stock the cream.

Hi, did you wear any makeup during the treatment process?
October 4, 2015
Amazing, however doesn't work forever.
I'm a 17 year old male, with combination skin. I've been suffering from acne ever since I first hit puberty when I was around 12 years old. It's been up and down for me, but it got especially bad in Grade 10 and onwards. I tried everything on the market that I possibly could get my hands on, including proactiv, but nothing seemed to really work. Frustrated, I went to see my local walk in clinic to see if they could help, and they prescribed me Clindoxyl. It was a great product, as it helped reduce my acne greatly, but it caused me to get a huge zit once in awhile. When my prescription for it ran out, and I stopped using it, I slowly started breaking out again. Before things got out of hand, I went to see the doctor again, and this time they prescribed me Tactupump. It's definitely a lot more expensive than Clindoxyl, but it worked quite well for me, so it was kinda worth it. I've noticed many other reviews mention how Tactupump is drying, can burn and causes redness, and also how it can cause you to break out when you first use it. I think because I've used other strong products in the past, that now my skin is tough to this kind of stuff. I never had the "breakout" while using this, and it never burned, but apparently, it caused my face to be more red than normal. Tactupump definitely caused my skin to dry out, but if you apply moisturizer the morning after, it's all good. I used about a pea sized amount every night before I go to bed, and wake up the next day feeling a lot cleaner. I've used this product for about 2 months now, and I've noticed quite a difference. The first couple of days, I noticed it got rid of a group of zits that I've had for forever that I just couldn't get rid of, but this got rid of it in like 2-3 days. It took about 1-2 weeks to start seeing real results, but now I'm very pleased. I'm not perfect quite yet, but compared to what I used to be, it's better. I started feeling confident and happy again. I still remember being so scared to try this because I was very skeptical if it would work, but I'm glad I took the risk. However, at the end of the 2 months, it stopped being as effective, and I've had a big breakout on the side of me face and a bit on my forehead. I went to see the doctor again, and this time she prescribed me oral medication and Clindoxyl again. Hopefully this works... I think the problem with users who rated this product negatively is that they overused it or used it wrongly. You're only supposed to use it once a night before you sleep, and use a pea sized amount and put it all over your face. If you use it more than once a night or if you use too much at once, I think it would wreck your skin, so be careful. In short, Pros: Clears up your acne effectively Can help with scars/marks Prevents further breakouts Cons: Can be quite drying Causes redness/burning Expensive ($130 in Canada if not covered by insurance) Doesn't work forever (at least for me) Good luck to everyone trying this out! Hopefully it will for you as well!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
